RECRUITMENT DEVELOPING THE WORKFORCE “To combat the potential future skills gap, VLS has recently taken on two apprentices, one of which is still studying and the other has begun the Improver Programme, which is VLS’ advanced apprenticeship scheme. In addition, VLS has taken on two qualified apprentices to begin the three-year programme which puts them through their HGV licenceand gives them experience on a range of vehicles and equipment. This not only creates a flexible workforce, but gives employees variety in their work and keeps the working day interesting.”

E3R is the preferred choice for specialist fleet recruitment

“Our consultant Riz Haider provides us with great candidates. He knows everything about the jobs we recruit for and the company, so he knows what we’re looking for – skills and experience and the type of people who will match VLS’ company culture. I haven’t got time to read through hundreds of candidate’s CVs, so Riz does the hard work for me and makes my job easier. When we have a post to fill he’s on with it straight away and places good quality people. “Every job that has been advertised with E3R, we have taken somebody on. Riz also sends across candidates he comes across when we are not recruiting, that he knows would be right for VLS, and as a result we have brought forward the opening of roles to take these individuals on. He goes the extra mile for us, which is why we always use E3 Recruitment.”

TYPE OF ROLES AND SKILLS “E3R has recruited a range of roles for VLS including HGV Fitters, Technical Controllers and Plant Fitters. Predominantly they help us recruit good quality well skilled mechanics that have experience and can work on a range of vehicles, both heavy goods and lighter vehicles. Other requirements include Level Three City & Guilds NVQ in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair experience and a Heavy Goods Licence. We are flexible if a candidate is right for our business - we will provide extensive training. “In the past E3Recruitment has recruited for Technical Job Controllers which require a certain type of skills. These tend to be ex-mechanics who now work in an office call centre environment and manage the fleet authorising repairs, services and MOTs making decisions based on the vehicles service repair history.”
