Fashion meets form and function, breaking the boundaries between activewear for performance and athleisure. Exposed Negatives is transitional aiming to encourage changable routines and lifestyles of active women. The ‘Ready-to-active-wear’ trend defines the female form through high performance pieces inspired from eveningwear, specifically the iconic little black dress, with tight sculpting body-con silhouettes. Overt sexiness is achieved with creative cutouts revealing areas of skin, bringing attention to the shapes created within the design and exploring the effects of negative space. Risque mesh panels strategically splice the silhouette, enhancing the feminine physique.

Taking inspiration from shadows cast upon a nude form and exposed negatives within photography, the core ‘active noir’ colour enables a clear contrast against the nude skintone, exaggerating the sensuality of the sheer ‘dare-to-bare’ panelling. Exposed negatives strives to be transeasonal and versatile with garments acting as a second skin, supporting the form rather than restricting.

Metallic surfaces especially silver portrays itself as a mirror by reflecting it’s surroundings to render wearer as invisible, whereas retro-reflective coatings illuminate bright iredescent light projecting high visibility. This transition of day-night applications of activewear with ‘be- seen’ technology explores functionality and importance of performance in and out of the gym. Although previous technologies contrast the reflective panelling or coating against dark tones, White Light embraces seasonal expectations of a soft colour palette of crisp whites and cool grey tones with the bold luminosity of the reflective surfaces.
