The accomplishments of two women soldiers who made history after weeks of grueling physical training alongside their male counterparts is serving as inspiration for a Birmingham area student. Captain Kristen Griest and First Lieutenant Shaye Haver Friday, August 21st from the Army’s elite Ranger school. The current class started out in April with 400 participants.
Jamerial Gardner, Carver High School Senior and JROTC Student
By the end of the 62-day course, 94 men and two women met all the requirements. The accomplishments of those women are inspiring young women like Jamerial Gardner, a senior at Carver High school to go into the military. “I know it’s very tough for them. It's tough for girls sometimes but at the same time we are able to live up to men's standards as well,” Gardner said.
Tickets required for 2 year old & older
September 20th Legion Field The game is part of a 10-match tour to celebrate the USA's third World Cup title. The remaining six match dates, venues and opponents will be announced as they are confirmed. For more info: ussoccer.com
Jamerial says she knows the struggle those women went through and she's glad they didn't give up. The Carver High JROTC student says she’s also gone through physical training, but, of course, nothing like the intensive program required in Ranger training. Jamerial calls this an historic accomplishment for those two soldiers and she believes it's going to change the mindset people have of women in the military.
“So some people may think girls are not able to live up to those standards, but in actuality we can and we can do whatever we put our minds to." Gardner says she has the utmost respect for the two female Army Ranger graduates. They inspire her to work harder and push herself when it comes to accomplishing her goals.

In college, you want to do things as quickly as possible, as soon as possible. Unless you're a college athlete, you probably won't want to spend hours at the gym when you could be exploring the nooks and crannies of your college town or going out with your friends. The app provides quick, seven-minute-long workouts ranging from ab crunches to good old jumping jacks. And for the best news: a few minutes of high-intensity muscle training a day may produce the same results as several hours of running or bike riding, according to scientists at McMaster University. 7 Minute Workout is available on Android and iOS phones.
