Aims The aim of this project was to involve the members of the Give Us Support group (GUS) in a consultation on how they see themselves, their hopes and dreams and to consider support needs for themselves and their peers. The project involved using a series of participative activities designed by Dynamix to be creative, engaging and to give people a say. These activities were available to the group at 3 events: 13th January 13th February 13th March Through participating in these activities the members were able to reflect on various aspects of their identity, celebrate personal achievements, consider goals and aspirations for employment, education and independent living, and consider the support information needs of themselves and other young people in Ceredigion. The answers from the participants have been collated in this report along with observations and recommendations from Dynamix. SO NOW WE HAVE THIS INFORMATION, WHAT CAN WE DO WITH IT? PURPOSE OF GUS The young people made it clear that not being heard is a big problem. We need to refocus on the aim of GUS as a young people having a say about issues that matter to them. BEING HEARD Need to make sure that what GUS have to say is used to improve what Ceredigion County Council do. Need to make sure the young people get feedback from the relevant services. HOW The way GUS asks young people their opinions needs to include different types of activities which take into account all the young people’s needs, interests, ages and reasons for coming to GUS. The consultation activities also need to be balanced out with providing the young people opportunity to socialise together informally. WHAT Possible future subjects include: 1. EMOTIONAL, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH. for example: Alcohol, drugs and risky activities Access to sports & physical activities Access to creative activities & the arts (especially music). 2. FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES for example: Education, training & employment opportunities. Whether or not to live in Ceredigion as an adult. Going from being a young person to adulthood. Being able to live independently as an adult. 3. PEOPLE IN OUR LIVES for example: Achieving friendships & a social life in rural Wales. Who isn’t listening to young people & how can we change this. How to manage it when someone else’s behaviour is difficult. Healthy relationships. SUPPORT Some of the extra support the members of GUS may need include: Group development & team building.
