Attendance If you miss the first class meeting or are absent for the equivalent of two weeks without approval, you may be dropped by the instructor. If you do not attend class but fail to drop the class by the refund deadline, you are still responsible for the registration fees.

You must officially drop classes through the online registration system or at the Admissions and Records Office. Non-attendance can result in an “F” grade and will cause you to lose your enrollment fees. If the class fee has not been paid and the class is not officially dropped, the unpaid fee will become an outstanding debt on your record. It is your responsibility to drop a class, not the instructor’s. If 75 percent or more of the instruction time has elapsed, you cannot withdraw and will be subject to an “F” grade.

(For refund dates, go to Insite/ WebAdvisor, Registration, to “My Class Schedule.” The dates are listed under the “Last Date to Drop” column. You can also check with your instructor.) Refund checks for complete or partial withdrawals will be processed after the first two weeks of instruction. Refund checks will be mailed to your student address on file in the college Admissions and Records Office. If you have a new address, please notify the office as soon as possible. If you paid online by credit card, a refund will be issued to the credit card used for payment.

Non-resident tuition refunds To obtain a refund for non-resident tuition, your request must be made at the Cashier’s Office. You will not receive a refund if you: • stop attending class and do not officially withdraw, • withdraw from the class after the refund deadline, • owe outstanding debts to the college. A detailed refund policy is posted in the Cashier’s Office. Refunds for over $1,000 must be requested at the Cashier’s Office. Students classified as nonresident may request reclassification if living in California for one year and one day prior to the start of the term. Documentation is required. Students should resolve residency reclassification immediately and all requests must be resolved by the end of the academic year in question. Fees for approved reclassifications will be adjusted. Requests for residency reclassification submitted for an academic year that has ended will not be accepted. Parking permit refunds To receive a refund, you must withdraw from school or drop class by the refund eligibility deadline. For refund dates, go to Insite/WebAdvisor, Registration, to “My Class Schedule.” The dates are listed under the “Last Date to Drop” column. You can also check with your instructor. The parking decal must be returned to the Cashier’s Office for a refund. The refund check will be mailed to you according to the same refund processing cycle as enrollment fee refunds. Lost or stolen parking permits are not refundable. Financial aid enrollment fee refunds If subsequent to paying enrollment fees, you become eligible for financial aid and receive an enrollment fee waiver, you will automatically be mailed a full refund check according to the same refund processing cycle as enrollment fee refunds. Enrollment fee deferments If subsequent to paying enrollment fees, you become eligible for an enrollment fee deferment to an outside agency, submit the deferment to the Cashier’s Office. You will automatically be mailed a refund check of the deferred fees according to the same refund processing cycle as enrollment fee refunds. Details regarding the refund policy are available from the Cashier’s Office or the Admissions and Records Office.

Student Activity Fee The Student Activity Fee and the Student Representation Fee are voluntary. Refund forms are available online at: www.dvc.edu/SAFrefund, at the Pleasant Hill Campus in the Cashier’s Office, Student Life Office and Welcome/Information Center. At the San Ramon Campus, the forms are available in the Admissions and Records Office. Refund forms must be submitted in person or by U.S. mail to the DVC Cashier’s Office ONLY (DVC Cashier, 321 Golf Club Road, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523). Request for refund forms must be received within the first two weeks of instruction for a full semester class, or before 10 percent of the class time for a short-term class. Refund checks will be issued monthly after the first two weeks of instruction each semester (fall and spring only). Non-refundable fees The $10 ASDVC discount sticker fee is not refundable. This refund policy complies with and is based upon California law and the Education Code.

Prerequisites Enrolling in DVC courses with prerequisites or co-requisites If you are enrolling in a course with a prerequisite, you must complete that prerequisite with a “C” grade or better before you are allowed to register. A course has a prerequisite to ensure that you have the appropriate body of knowledge to be successful. Courses with a co-requisite require that you either have taken the co-requisite course prior or take the co-requisite course at the same time. Please note: dropping a class with a co-requisite will result in a drop from both classes. A prerequisite is usually a course from a

lower sequence of courses. For example, you may not enroll in Math 142 (Elementary Statistics with Probability) without first passing Math 120 (Intermediate Algebra or equivalent) with a “C” grade or better. A corequisite is usually a lab or a course that provides supplemental instruction. To see which courses have prerequisites and/or co-requisites, see the individual course offerings in the catalog. To register for a course with a prerequisite If you have completed the prerequisite course with a “C” grade or higher, at DVC fall 1999 or later, you will have the prerequisite automatically cleared upon registration. If the prerequisite course was completed at DVC, CCC or LMC prior to fall 1999, contact the Admissions and Records Office for assistance. If the prerequisite course was completed at another educational institution, the Admissions and Records Office must clear the requirement prior to registering. All prerequisite equivalency forms must have the appropriate documentation attached. Online registration There are a two ways to do this: 1. submit an unofficial or official transcript with a prerequisite equivalency form to the Admissions and Records Office; OR 2. fax an unofficial transcript with a prerequisite equivalency form. You will be notified of the results in two to three business days. If approved, you may register on or after your registration appointment time. Registration for a co-requisite/ prerequisite course Some courses allow you to take the required course either as a co-requisite (concurrently) or as a prerequisite (previously). With Math 195, for example, the required course, Math 193, may be taken either as a prerequisite or a co-requisite. If you have a problem registering in such a course, please contact the Admissions and Records Office.

The waitlist is a way to prioritize the enrollment of students after a class has reached its maximum. There are no guarantees that you will be enrolled from the waitlist; therefore, it is always best to enroll in a class with open seats. If you are still on a waitlist when the class begins, the instructor cannot consider adding you to the class unless you attend the first class meeting.
