Suite Designs can actually save you a great deal in the long run by preventing ineffective and costly decisions in this sensory overloaded environment. ”We will provide advice when you shop in our store or come to your home or office and help you with a custom plan which can provide some simple solutions to improving your environment,” said AnnMarie. The Princeton Review defines an Interior Designer as “… a combination of engineer and artist, and it takes a unique type of mind to handle both of those concepts well. Interior designers have to be good with more than color, fabric, and furniture; interior designers must know materials, have budgeting skills, communicate well, and oversee the ordering, installation, and maintenance of all objects that define a space. They also have to know about electrical capacity, safety, and construction. This broader range of required knowledge distinguishes them from interior decorators. Interior designers have to be able to work with contractors and clients alike, planning and implementing all aesthetic and
functional decisions, from faucet handles to miles of carpeting —and all this usually must be done within a fixed budget. Interior designers are hired for their expertise in a variety of styles and approaches, not merely their own personal vision. Therefore, they have to be able to balance their own tastes and their clients’ tastes— and be willing to put their clients’ tastes first.” That philisophy is the true guide for AnnMarie and Jacklyn. Suite Designs is the one place where you can find beautiful items for your home, as well as gifts for family and loved ones that are unique, socially conscious and affordable. “We will only showcase products in our store that we would be proud to have in our own home,” said Jacklyn. “It is extremely important that the products we have in the store are both beautifully designed and of the highest quality. We also look for products that help artisans locally and around the world, as well as products that are environmentally sound.” For more information, visit the web site at www.suitedesignsny.com or call 838-3900.

Homeowners nationwide are going green to improve their home’s energy efficiency in order to help the environment and gain some cash in the process. For many, however, it’s impractical and often too costly to make major changes to our homes. Fortunately there are many relatively easy things you can do to make your home more energy efficient. New research from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) reveals that 98 percent of homeowners believe it is important their homes be as energy efficient as possible, yet only 41 percent feel it is easy to make these types of home improvements. “Americans have heard the green message and want to do their part to help the environment,” said Scott Morgan, HGTV host and home building expert. “Yet taking steps to improve the energy efficiency of your home can remain overwhelming for many — especially when it comes to choices around energy sources.” Accordingly, 57 percent of survey respondents say it’s easier to make several small changes to add efficiencies to the home, rather than take on major home overhaul. Here are some ways to incrementally improve your home’s energy efficiency: * Consider more efficient energy sources with fewer emissions, such as propane, which is widely available today. Propane furnaces, for instance, reach a peak efficiency of more than 95 percent, compared with 85 percent for home fuel oil. Electric water heaters, meanwhile, emit 2.5 times more greenhouse gases than propane water heaters. * Switch to a tankless water heater. Since tankless propane water heaters heat water on demand rather than storing it, they can lower household energy bills up to 60 percent and save the
average family 10 to 20 percent of its daily water use. Additionally, the use of propane water heaters generates 60 percent fewer earth-damaging carbon emissions than electric-powered heaters. * Replace old kitchen and bathroom appliances with ones meeting the newest ENERGY STAR certification criteria. Do the same for home entertainment and computer equipment. These products are more energy efficient than ever, with the government having increased efficiency requirements by at least 30 percent. * Keep the outside out. Insulate, especially in attics and basements, and replace old, drafty windows and weather-strip doors. Seal air leaks, including those around heating and cooling ducts. * Ultra-efficient gas heating equipment can be used in an array of heating applications, such as forced air and infloor systems. And such propanefueled appliances leave a smaller carbon footprint than their electric counterparts. Electric baseboard heaters and electric furnaces give off nearly three times the carbon dioxide as propane furnaces. The right choices also can improve indoor air quality, with propane-fueled radiant heat cutting down on dust and allergens. * Saving power and energy means more than turning off lights or turning down the thermostat. Many home appliances, entertainment systems and computer hardware come with built-in power saver features that “sleep” when not in active use. “The migration to greener energy is a positive trend with undeniable longterm benefits,” says Morgan, who also stresses that you don’t have to install exotic and costly energy systems in your home to take advantage of energy-efficient options. For additional information about making your home green, visit www.usepropane.com.

Lewis family begins to ‘Live the Dream’ with help from Page Outdoor living Center Will and Andrea Lewis began to plan their outdoor living area in the early spring. At the same time the H.G. Page Outdoor Living Center was being constructed. As the center began to spring to life, Will and Andrea paid them a visit. There on display were Cambridge Pavingstones a product they were considering for their pool area. Andrea was delighted because complete displays and layouts were built using a variety of shapes, and colors including pillars and columns. Their dream began to take shape. Many times Andrea and Will would drive to the H.G. Page outdoor display area trying to decide on the right color of pavingstones and layout style for their pool and sidewalk area. “In fact”, Andrea said, “the idea for the corner pillars to attach the decorative security fencing around their pool, came directly from seeing the pillars on display.” As Andrea reflected on her shopping experience she was quick to point out
that she always felt welcome and all her questions were always answered. Jay DeGroat, store manager said, “We understand that planning like this takes time. More than likely we’ll know you on a first name basis when your project is complete. And we like it that way”. Andrea said having the full size displays to view and walk on made the decision-making process so much easier. Looking at pictures in a magazine just can’t do that for you. After Andrea made the final decisions on the type and colors of stone, Will stepped in with the final layout and quantities for the project. As the project progressed, so did the design with the addition of a wall and walkway directly to their house from the pool. Arcos Custom Builders, owned by Adlino Domingues, 845-629-7167, completed their outdoor living area project. When they were asked what their plans for next year were, the couple responded, “We have a little landscaping to do, but other that that, we
plan on relaxing by the pool on our new patio!” At the Outdoor Living Center in addition to the Cambridge Pavingstones, you’ll find outdoor water gardens, fireplaces, firepits, a BBQ area, and you can select from Trex, Cedar, Mahogany, Fiberon Railings, Deckorators, Weber Grills, and Garden Tools. H. G. Page worked with local masons, building contractors and landscaping designers and they were able to capture the creative talent from a variety of sources. This enabled them to incorporate new ideas and specialty features. Join the numerous homeowners who have already completed their outdoor projects and the ones who are still in the early planning stages who will begin to ‘Live The Dream’ with help from H.G. Page. As the seasons change so will some of the products that you’ll find available in the showroom. Right now look for fireplaces and heaters, windows, doors, closet organizers, a full line of Benjamin Moore Paints, and more.

At Home in the Woods features best of Simply Amish, great deals in Discount Barn At Home in the Woods and Simply Amish – they make a great combination. You can now see and purchase beautiful handmade furniture from Simply Amish locally in the At Home in the Woods showrooms on Rt. 9D. Owners Betsy and Matt Wallingford will be happy to give you a tour. Simply Amish isn’t a style. It’s a standard of excellence—desired by many and practiced by a very rare few. You can see the excellence in the fine details of solid wood drawers, handfinished, inside and out. It’s in the skill of genuine Amish craftsmen, passed down from one generation to the next. Unlike low-quality knock-offs, Simply Amish furniture isn’t cut and stamped by computers. It’s custom crafted by a skilled craftsman who signs his work, just like any master artist. The work is personal. And the commitment runs deep. In fact, should your piece of Simply Amish furniture ever become damaged or need repairs, we’ll return it to the very craftsman who made it. And he’ll restore it to look just like it did on the day it left his shop. Today, Simply Amish furniture is still made by authentic Amish craftsmen, working on more than 50 family farms scattered throughout the heartland of America. Most are small family shops with only four or five craftsmen, while some shops might employ
as many as 30 skilled workers. But regardless of the size, tradition still dictates the construction of every design. Each piece of lumber is still cut, shaped, sanded and stained by seasoned hands, using a keen eye to eliminate any imperfections and bring out the natural beauty of rich maple, solid oak and other select hardwoods. If you are in the market for great wood furniture, but at discounted prices, then you also have a reason to visit At Home in the Woods. The Discount Barn features 20% - 60% off overstocked, discontinued, display models, nicked, dented, scratched and ooops pieces. A little help from ‘trulyhelpful’ will brighten your home, life By Ralph Amundsen Many of us are feeling the pain of the financial state of affairs our country is experiencing. I offer these ideas: Hold on to your dreams, keep on working and love a-little more, laugh a-little more often, look for the positive and focus on these points. “Value what has value,” The Creator, family and close community. Find a reason to be Happy! Find something to do, and something to look forward to. Everyday on this beautiful planet is a gift. Rather than spending a lot of money on major renovations, a few little things might brighten a room. In the shower, deep clean tile and re-grout, then caulk the corners and tub cleanly, paint the walls and baseboard. Wouldn’t it be great to see something looking shiny and new without spending a lot? A different perception, what are the possibilities? If you want something to be different, maybe you must do something you have never done. And you can do it with a little help. Here are a few things that could brighten your day: Change the color of the room. Add crown molding and chair rail—in your favorite colors. Maybe in your living room, family room, your bedroom or

the kids’ rooms. Refurbishing your woodwork around windows, doors, or floors. This can make your wood look much better with just a little work. I can do it for you, or I can show you how. Choose a “Change of Pace” on a new vinyl, laminate, or wood floor in your kitchen, playroom or bathrooms. There are many styles and colors available. Maybe a handcrafted laminate countertop and ceramic back splash and change the sink and faucet. Check out your windows—are they drafty, allowing cold air in? New energy efficient windows can actually save you money on expensive home heating oil in the long run. Maybe you are unable to afford new windows. Replace the broken and cracked glass and repair the storm windows. Weather seals around the doors and thresholds save you more than they cost. If you do not have storm windows, I can make them. Wash the windows, clean the floors, vacuum the carpet, wash the walls. Change the room setting, furniture etc. Put something different on the walls, photos etc. these things alone will
change the feel of the room. All you need is willingness. Small changes today make big changes tomorrow! Whatever the project I can help you! Excepting roofs and gutters. Concrete to raised panel rooms, fine woodworking and children’s furniture. You can also save money by working along with Ralph of trulyhelpful. Ralph is a one-man crew and does all the work himself, so count on an exceptional job. He is willing to work with you as the home owner and teach as he works, which is trulyhelpful. Make a bright, shiny place in your home! And Heart. And remember, You are not responsible for the thoughts that enter you mind, You are responsible for the thoughts you entertain, So have the greatest day of your life, unless you make other plans! Nurture happiness, be love-able. Give to others that which you want most, to feel cared about, acknowledged for little successes! To know each of us is a unique link in the Circle of oneness. God Bless America and the people who make it strong - the people. Call trulyhelpful for a good job at a reasonable price, 845-226-5267 or 845-489-1157. I can help!

A-1’s snow blower check-up is the best plan It may be sunny now, but fast forward a couple of months and you know why you should be visiting Kathie and Stu Kotchie at A-1 Lawnmower and Small Engine Repair. That’s right. We’ll be knee-deep in the white stuff and you’ll be pulling out the snow-blower for the first time - hoping – just hoping – that it starts up and you can clear the driveway and still get to work at a decent hour. Well, guess what. Hoping isn’t much fun. It’s even less fun when you’re standing behind a snow blower and looking at a long driveway. Eliminate the hoping process. Pull out the snow blower now and take it to A-1 at the intersection of Rt. 376 and Lake Walton Rd. in Wappingers Falls.
The small engine experts will take your snow blower through a 20-point check and make sure it’s ready for action when the snow arrives. And you’ll feel a lot better, knowing that your snow blower is up to the task, rather than just hoping. Kathy and Stu Kotchie are in their 27th year as owners of A-1 Lawnmower and Small Engine Repair, Inc. They are the experts. Add the personal, friendly service and you’ve got every reason to stop in and visit. They also sell Husqvarna chain saws, leaf blowers and just about anything you need for your landscaping chores. Call Kathie and Stu and 227-LAWN (5296).

choice many local insurance companies. Mike notes that mold is a problem in many homes and commercial buildings in the Hudson Valley. Much of the problem is due to shifts in the water table because of the large amount of building in this area in the past several years. Some clues to look for include musty smells, standing water, water stains, water seeping into concrete, plus physical issues such as headaches, itchy eyes, sore and/or scratchy throat and sneezing. Individuals have varying immune systems, however, the elderly and very young generally have weakened immune systems. Mike and his teams have experience in handling jobs from small to large – alleviating mold in a wall to completely taking down structures due to excessive damage. A thorough inspection with First Call includes the use of boroscopes (thermal imaging cameras), which alert technicians to cool spots in walls. Mike notes that safety is a key aspect in mold removal – making sure not to breach the containment area. First Call uses High Efficiency
