Calling all daycare providers: have we got a resource for you! What is a Story Sharing Kit? It is a storytime in a bag! Each kit is theme-based and supports the daycare curriculum with over 75 themes. The kits provide information in a variety of mediums: books, videos, CDs, puzzles, puppets, flannel board stories, activity guides and more. Check them out and return them in the Main Library Children’s Unit. Daycare Provider status must be verified.

FOUR MAGIC WORDS: PLEASE AND THANK YOU (All Ages) Saturday, Dec. 13 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Just in time for the holidays, this program offers helpful hints to good manners that every child needs to know. What do you say when you get socks instead of the cool race car you really wanted? How soon after receiving a gift should you send a thank you card? Knowing and using good manners can make the holidays and any day pleasant and enjoyable for everyone. Through stories, songs, role-playing and more, children can brush up on the winning behavior we all wish to give and to receive.

We can create a bird feeder! Join us for this fun-filled special as we explore the many ways to support our woodland friends. This craft is fun, easy and tastes great, too.

*AMERICAN DANCE FESTIVAL PRESENTS: “DANCING STORIES! STORIES COME ALIVE” (All Ages) Saturdays, Jan. 10 (Part I), 17 (Part II) 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to experience the joy of movement with Jody Cassell, author and teaching artist in dance, from the internationally-known American Dance Festival for a two-part Winter Dance Workshop. Twirl, bounce, and dip as Ms. Cassell makes stories come alive interactively with her audience. Stir your imagination and delight in your giggles! In Part I (Jan. 10), Ms. Cassell will interactively dance her children’s book, Where’s Leon?, a story created not just to be read, but to be danced. Part II (Jan. 17) will feature A Book of Sleep, by Il Sung Na.

Programs for ki ds Nor th Reg ional PRE-SCHOOL PLAY AND LEARN (Pre-school) Wednesdays (No program Dec. 24, 31) 11:15 a.m. - 12 noon Join us as we engage in interactive activities that encourage literacy, learning and creativity. Each week, we will have a different theme: Every Child Ready to Read Storywalk, which focuses on early literacy practices through a unique storywalk; Preschool Science, where we will learn through books, hands-on experiments and lots of interactive fun; DIY Art, a hands-on craft that will help build vocabulary, creativity and overall awesomeness; and Readers’ Theater, which encourages dramatic play to increase literacy, social skills and vocabulary. HOMESCHOOL LEARNING LAB (Pre-school, 6-12 Year Olds) Thursdays (No lab Dec. 25; Jan. 1) 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. The Homeschool Learning Lab provides homeschoolers with enriching and unique educational programming in a library setting. We have fun learning, building relationships and becoming familiar with library resources. Parents are invited to facilitate sessions.

*GERONIMO STILTON BOOK CLUB (6-12 Year Olds) Thursdays, Dec. 11; Jan. 8; Feb. 12 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Do you love Geronimo and Thea Stilton? Wouldn’t you love to get together with other kids who also love to read their books? Every month, we’ll meet to discuss and learn more about either a Geronimo Stilton or Thea Stilton book. Join Ms. Stephanie to explore the chosen title, with fun activities, silly games and excellent conversation. Check out our online calendar for the specific book. *READERS’ THEATER: K – 5TH GRADE (5-12 Year Olds) Mondays, Dec. 15; Jan. 12; Feb. 16 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Do you love to sing, act and play? In this monthly program, we will read some of our favorite stories and act them out in a play together. Sometimes we will use puppets and other props, other times we will use ourselves to perform a play. As we work together, we will also prepare a formal performance that will take place in February, so please join us!

*HOLIDAY BOOK EXCHANGE PARTY (Pre-school, Kindergarten, 6-12 Year Olds) Saturday, Dec. 20 2 - 3 p.m. In celebration of the holiday season, children are invited to bring in a gently used children’s book to exchange with another child. We will create festive holiday bookmarks, enjoy cookies and cider, and hear a wonderful holiday story.
