M o n t h ly N e w s l e t t e r Volume 17 • issue 8 - August 2013 From Our Treasurer
Durango Area Assn. of REALTORS
As I sat trying to decide what you all would like to read about, I thought about the one thing that we as REALTORS, don’t seem to have enough of: Time. I As a result of that, simple things that are super important fall by the wayside, and we should be ashamed. It is way too easy to think, “I don’t have time”, when really these things are vital. Things like eating right, exercising, getting out in the community, spend time with our loved ones, and making sure we keep our minds sharp (and these are just a few ideas that come to mind, and I am sure that there are many more. So with that in mind, I thought I would share with you some links that make these things a little more palatable, and before you say, “I don’t have time”, take two minutes out of each day and incorporate one of these ideas and see how much better you feel: Eating right (for some people like me that includes remembering to eat): http://www.cookinglight.com/food/quick-healthy/5-ingredient-healthy-recipes-00400000053319/ http://www.eatingwell.com/ http://allrecipes.com/recipes/healthy-recipes/ http://www.foodnetwork.com/healthy-every-week/package/index.html Exercising (even just walking around the block a few times): I know that at least for me it can be way too easy to sit at my computer and not even stretch for hours at a time, again not good. Here are a few sites that offer some quick ways to get in some exercise (remember you get what you put into it, no “get rich quick or get healthy fast”) http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20120106/manhattan/best-15-minute-workout-without-gym http://www.pbs.org/americaswalking/health/quickfit.html http://www.realsimple.com/health/fitness-exercise/workouts/15-minute-workouts-00000000030641/index.html The next one, getting out in the community, is one that I used to say I will do it, when I have time. With three children and a wife at home, that could be never, so I got out there and found some things and clubs that I am passionate about, that could work in conjunction with my schedule. I am not saying that you have to do everything and fill every single minute, but I am saying that if you find something that you really believe in, you will not only feel good and make a difference, but you might also find that there is business to be had from it. Some places to find clubs in Durango and La Plata County: http://www.durangobusiness.org/relocation/clubs-organizations.aspx As far as the spending time with loved ones, there is a lot to do, but if you need help with some family outings, using even an hour if you can.
I am not saying that I have it all figured out, but I know that these are all areas where I have had struggles, and right now at the “peak” of our busy season, I hope that at least one of these articles gives you a break at the very least, and at the most it might give you a whole new outlook on things. Sincerely, Your Treasurer Jerome Bleger

Community Service In July a request was made by The Red Cross Southwest Chapter for items that displaced residence of Colorado could use as fires pushed them from their homes. Requests were also made to help the brave fire fighters working so hard to save the American Dream. The Durango Area Assn of REALTORS Community Service Committee and the wonderful residence and businesses of our county stepped up to help fill this need. They donated money, time and effort to create “comfort bags for men, women and children.
