It’s with great anticipation that Kate and I welcome you to our 5th Annual Brothers from Different Mothers prospect steer, and for the first time, heifer sale. Thanks to the hard work of the 2012 steer buyers, we are proud to say Dun Rite cattle had a great year out on the road. After a pile of interest from 4-H members in BC, we worked to make sure we had a few more steers that would really fit the BC 4-H program, while not taking any focus away from our customers here in our own back yard of Alberta. The addition of our heifer crop to the sale this year is extremely exciting. We have worked hard and kept back as many females we could over the last six years. This offering includes both Purebred and MaineTainer females. At Dun Rite, MaineTainer cattle are not a by-product. Thanks to the great work of Bow Valley Genetics, we are excited to offer a few packages of embryos this year. Why did we choose to flush the cows we did? Because they have done a great job for us and we know they will do the same for you. Take a hard look at the embryos sired by our Dr. Seuss 30T bull, with the anticipation of making some of the best females you will ever raise. The Monopoly embryos speak for themselves. As these cattle become harder and harder to get, wouldn’t it be nice to have a few embryos in the tank. After four years of walking the pastures here and seeing what he can do, we decided to draw the first saleable semen on our great herd sire Hall’s Crossing 454W. This semen is exportable to the US and Canada. He will make great steers and fantastic females. After all that, who could forget about our steers – the cattle that have got us to where we are today, and the backbone of this sale for the last four years. What a set of rock solid steers. Really focus on the birth dates and sale weights this fall to help make the decision on what steer will work best for you and your final show and sale date. Making sure you find a steer that not only looks good but GAINS can be difficult. Look no further. After growing a steer on air for the last few weeks prior to her show and sale to make sure he didn’t get too big, Carmen Biggelaar still posted an ADG of 3.49lbs. Like always, our calves will be tie broke, weaned, on feed and fully vaccinated prior to ever coming to your facility. If you are traveling in for the sale, make sure you book your room at the Comfort Inn Sylvan Lake (403) 887-7884. Like always, we are happy to work with you to make sure your purchase gets to where it needs to be. After five years, I am proud to say we aren’t getting any smaller.

Doug & Katie Roxburgh

We believe in this young bull calf so much we wanted to make him part of our sale. Just the first bull from this dam since we brought her into our herd, every one of her daughters and now granddaughters not only walks our pastures but truly dominates them. An early June born bull calf sired by our herd sire DRSS Lonely Island. As I write this footnote, this calf is down in Bassano at Bow Valley Genetics while we flush his mother. Looking for a bull that will truly add some maternal power into your calves, take a good look right here. Structurally sound, balanced, and whistle fronted. Selling ½ interest ½ possession. Give us a call for details.

I don’t even know where to begin when talking about this great heifer. A female that really puts together the complete package of style and performance. The dam of this great female has produced a few champion steers for Carmen Biggelaar. We flushed this females dam to Monopoly this spring before breeding her back to our great herd sire Hall’s Crossing. The first heifer we have ever had from this amazing cow. Take a good long look here.

As this female rounds the corner toward14 years of age, we are truly amazed at what she has done for us, and what we still see her doing into the future. A female with an absolutely perfect udder, structurally sound and most importantly of all, a great producer. Two of her daughters have steers in our sale that we predict to be two of the high sellers this year. Her bull calf is the lead off lot. The production of this great female has really helped us get to where we are today. This will be the first time we have offered her progeny for sale.

We had some Monopoly semen in the tank from a few years ago. As more people started asking to buy it, we knew there was a demand. Monopoly calves get harder to find each year, and the price of his semen, if you can find it, keeps going up. Wanting to maximize the semen, we decided to use it for a flush. But which cow? There was only one cow we thought was worth the time and investment. This female just works no matter how we breed her. A few years ago she produced a Sunseeker steer that went on to be Supreme Champion in Lacombe. Last year, she produced a Hall’s Crossing steer that was Open Champion in Lacombe as well. Each year she just seemed to come back with the high sellers of our sale. I don’t see this year to be any different producing our lead-off heifer. 3##GRADE 1 EMBRYOS Grade?? Embryos. This massive power house of a cow was purchased from Remitall’s dispersal sale. Brought in for her power and depth of body, we really felt her and her daughters would make a truly great cross on our Maine Anjou bulls. And they did, producing our high-selling steer two years ago, who went on to be the Supreme Champion Steer in Lacombe. This cow started the Nancy family that just keeps getting deeper and deeper for us. An opportunity to purchase a daughter of hers came up two years ago from LLB, and it was a no brainer. We jumped in head first using the Wall Street genetics around here. Not only doing a little AI, we also purchased a son from Gerrard Cattle Co to run on some heifers. The bull did such great things for us he worked his way into breeding all types of cattle here at the farm. 3##GRADE 1 EMBRYOS Grade?? Embryos.
