Dundalk’s Community Radio Station News September 12 2009

1. The Dundalk FM A.G.M. takes place on Tuesday 15 September in Oriel Park/Enda McGuill Suite beginning at 7.15pm. We will have a report on last year’s community development activity, the financial results, election to the Board of Directors and a sneak preview of the new Website. 2. Thanks for those who have paid their membership for this year. We’re still collecting from those who have every good intention to, but just haven’t got around to it yet, by the way. 3. The brand new Website will be launched on Wednesday 23rd September. Some of the features include a calendar of events in Dundalk, a separate page for each show which can be updated by the presenter, a web poll, photo gallery and of course ‘listen live’. During 2010 will be adding a webcam, advertising, competitions, podcasts and shop! 4. Wednesday 23rd is also a Community Open Night and part of a training initiative for volunteers which is funded under the BCI Community Radio Broadcast Support Scheme. All members welcome! 5. Dundalk FM is now accepting ideas from members for submissions to Round 9 of the Sound and Vision Funds. If you have an idea, you will be asked for details of the idea, the production team, and a running order. Successful previous applications from the station include Cinema comes to Dundalk, From the Border to the Boyne and Holy Shrines of Dundalk. The programmes are mainly documentary style about a person, event or building, which adds to the understanding of Irish culture, language and heritage. Closing date for initial submission to the station is 3rd October. 6. If you are taking out equipment, you will be asked to complete an Equipment Hire Form. 1. The person taking out equipment must be a member of Dundalk FM. 2. The person taking out the equipment will pay any damages to equipment. 3. Equipment may only be used for programming, otherwise Equipment Hire rates apply 7. Beidh deireadh seachtain cónaite á éagrú ag CRAOL I Luimneach an 19ú agus and 20ú la de Méan Fómhair. A CRAOL FETAC Trainer Induction Evening Hospital debate in Studio ‘3’ with councillors will take place in Dublin on Thursday October 15th and hospital reps. at 7pm. Anyone interested in attending should call the station to book a place.


9. Relay for Life Dundalk 9+10 October. Dundalk FM Team Leader, Kay O’Reilly needs people to commit to a few hours walking the track during the 24 hour event. We have seven time slots and need 4 people for each so please contact kayoreilly@hotmail.com or call 087 4115250. See www.cancer.ie for details. Please fill in your name in the grid which is in reception with the time you can give to this worthy cause. Volunteer Opportunity If you have time to present a new Community Drive show between 5pm and 7pm any day between Monday to Friday, please give me a call. We are looking for volunteers interested in presenting the following shows to add to the schedule: Arts Show; Irish language Show or an Ethic Minority Show. 12. Next Dundalk FM Members Meeting, Wednesday 14 October 7pm, Community Offices. We will have elections to Dundalk FM Committees, Christmas get together plans and news on FETAC Accreditation for presenters. The website will make a big difference so everybody can keep in contact with each other and events at the station. If you missed the web training, we will arrange for one of the volunteers who was there to show you what to do. As always ways of improving the station and the service are welcome.
