Dundalk FM Community Radio Station News December 16th 2008 1. Vacancies for 2 Community Employment Positions and Bookkeeper (contract)  Receptionist- mix of mornings and afternoons – duties include: answering phones, emails, greeting guests, general station administration.  Weekend Duty Manager – duties include: operating sound desk, recording mass, set up and run outside broadcasts, editing and compiling programmes, some broadcasting, scheduling programmes and training volunteers. We wish them every success in the future.  Part time Bookkeeper (Contract)– duties include maintain the purchases and sales records, invoicing customers, use TAS to prepare financial information for the Board of Directors. Full job spec on request. 2. Dundalk FM Training 2009 Welcome on board to our recent training graduates, Margaret Neylon, Caitriona Hodgers and Lorcan Finnegan – looking forward to hearing you on air in 2009. New trainees are required to do 10 hours induction before going on air. This includes operating the desk for a show, researching and presenting a news insert, helping set up and run an OB, recoding voxpops and general office help. March Child Protection Training for those who haven’t done this already – you must attend this course. April FETAC Level 4 – The new CRAOL guidelines. May How to become a Community Producer July Voice projection and presentation techniques September AGM October Web Broadcasting The Sound and Vision Funding Scheme will open in February 2009. Dundalk FM are interested in hearing about programme ideas you have and will run a Sound and Vision Workshop in January. The station will make all applications; no applications will be accepted from Independent Producers. Programme Ideas around Irish heritage, language and culture accepted. 3. Recent Outside Broadcasts  14/10 Deli Lites, Clanbrassil Street and Park Street (thanks to Damien Keenan for sound).  25/10 OXJAM, Clanbrassil Street (thanks to Sean Kinehan for organising this).  06/11 Dundalk v Athlone Town, Oriel Park.  15/11 Kildare County v Dundalk, Station Road, Newbridge (gained promotion to Premier!).  21/11 Marshes Shopping Centre – Santa arrived in style.  22/11 McGuiness Vets Open Day, Avenue Road.  28/11 Long Walk Shopping Centre.  05/12 Oxfam, Clanbrassil Street, celebrating 10 years in Dundalk (Damien Keenan sound).  07/12 Devine Mercy Devotions, St Nicholas’ Church, Bridge Street.

Programming  Listen out for new programmes from Appletree Foundation, Dundalk Simon Community, Tara Education Centre and Straight Talk Africa.  Derek McDonnell is going live with The Presenters Present on Monday at 6pm.  The Open Source Recording Team invite you drop in and help out at Dundalk Shopping Centre between 12 noon and 4 pm on Saturday 20th December.  In a first for the station, The Dundalk Daily programme was broadcast from the canteen on 13 and 14 November with a panel of councillors and guests.  Welcome back to Time Detectives and DKITalk.  We wish a speedy recovery to Jim Ryan who is off the crutches now!  Mondays at 2pm Come to the Céile with Eddie Sherry.  Mondays at 3pm The Afternoon Show with Kay O’Reilly and Cathal Cassidy.  Wednesdays at 6pm Up Close and Personal with Heather Evans.  Thanks to Cathal Cassidy, Niall MacCarthaigh, Michael Duffy, Heather Evans, and Stephen Murphy for presenting Dundalk Daily recently. The station will be closed on Christmas Day. We will be playing Christmas Greetings so do record and send in greetings to Paddy atproduction@dundalkfm.com. 5. Thanks to those who turned up at our Strategic Planning Meeting on 6 November. We now have a list of goals to achieve for 2009 in the areas of programming, technology, promotion and branding and community engagement. The list will be displayed in the studio this week. The upstairs canteen area is available for volunteers to prepare and discuss programming and for a cup of coffee! 8. If you have suggestions or comments about what you hear or would like to hear on the our station, you can do so by writing to The Programme Committee or emailing me or any Committee member (Kay O’Reilly, Cathal Cassidy, Michael Duffy, Paddy McEneaney or myself) and it will bring it up at the Programme meetings. Also I’m interested in hearing from you – what small things can we change to make the station more inviting and welcoming for guests and members. 9.
