Department of Anesthesiology Research Conference Monday’s from 5-6 pm in 5685-HAFS

February 9, 2009 “A Genome-Wide Screen for Ion Channels that Contribute to Mechanosensation” Jason Caldwell, Ph.D., Research Associate, Department of Anesthesiology Using Drosophila as a model for understanding vertebrate mechanosensation, RNA interference is being used to systematically knock down the various ion channel subunits specifically in mechanosensory neurons. This data will provide essential insight into the ion channel contributions to mechanical senses and, in the cases where clear vertebrate homologues exist, these channels may represent potential targets for therapeutic intervention.
