E xecutive Summary This report provides an outline of global relocation trends in 2013. Compiled from a survey of 388 professionals, it provides a detailed overview of relocation trends for the following sectors: - Audit - Finance Based on survey responses, each sector has been analysed in terms of their likelihood of relocation, and allocated a "likelihood of relocation" score out of ten, whereby a high score indicates a higher likelihood of relocation. Overall, the report has found that:

47.7% of professionals are currently working outside of their native country.

The majority of professionals working in permanent positions (47.3%) are "likely" to relocate, and

39.8% are "actively looking to relocate".

49.0% of contractors are "actively looking to relocate" and 35.3% are "likely" to relocate.

Europe is the preferred region for both permanent and contract professionals, with 57.2% of permanent

staff and 59.5% of contract staff choosing Europe as a preferred region.

With 30.6% of the vote, Switzerland is overall the most popular location to relocate to on a permanent

basis, as well as on a contract basis (45.7%).

Career progression is the most likely motive to relocate on a permanent basis (50.5%), followed by

work/ life balance (17.9%) and experiencing another culture or location (13.1%). In comparison,

contractors would most likely relocate firstly to experience another culture or location (28.6%), secondly

to increase their rate (26.2%) or thirdly to gain specific skills or experience (23.8%).

The preferred length of time to relocate for on a permanent basis is 3-5 years (51.8%), followed by "as

long as possible" (23.6%). Likewise, contractors would ideally relocate for 3-5 years (35.7%) followed by

1-2 years (33.3%).

The majority of respondents within permanent roles (35.1%) would require a 11-20% salary increase in

order to relocate, closely followed by a 21%+ increase (33.5%). The majority of contractors (31.0%)

would also require a 11-20% salary increase in order to relocate, followed by a 21%+ increase (28.6%).

The majority of permanent professionals (59.9%) would consider relocating for a contract role, and the

vast majority (90.9%) of contractors would consider relocating for a permanent role. The main

motives for permanent staff to relocate as a contractor are to gain specific skills and experience (36.4%), to

get a higher rate of pay (29.3%) or to experience another culture or location (18.7%). The key reason

that contractors would relocate for a permanent position is for career progression (45.0%).

AUD IT permanent P RO F E S S I O NA LS Permanent professionals within Audit gained a relocation score of 8.45 out of 10, with 51.7% of professionals "actively looking to relocate" and 41.4% "likely" to relocate. No respondents answered that they would "never" relocate for a permanent role, whereas 6.9% stated that relocating for a permanent role is "unlikely". Differing from the general trend, permanent professionals' most likely motive for relocation is to experience another culture or location (33.3%), rather than career progression. That said, career progression is the second most likely motive for relocation with 29.2% of the vote. Other popular motives for relocation include work/ life balance, salary and bonus, and tax benefits. In line with other sectors, the ideal period of time for a permanent professionals to relocate for is 3-5 years (48.1%), followed by "as long as possible" (29.6%). In terms of the salary change expected or required to relocate for a permanent position, respondents were split with 33.4% (the majority) expecting a 11-20% salary increase, and 29.6% of respondents expecting a 0-10% or a 21%+ salary increase. The majority of professionals working on a permanent basis would consider relocating for a contract role (63.0%). Of those respondents who would relocate for a contract role, 47.1% answered that they would do so to "gain specific skills and experience", and 23.5% would do so "to experience another culture or location".

The most popular region for relocation is Europe, with 51.9% of respondents choosing Europe as their preference. This was followed by Asia Pacific, North America and Latin America with 14.8%, 7.4% and 3.7% respectively. No respondents specified a preference to relocate to either Africa or the Middle East. 22.2% of respondents stated that they would consider relocating "anywhere", with one respondent based in Italy elaborating that he would relocate to "wherever there are potential and interesting new opportunities for [his]

career." Overall, Switzerland is the most sought after country to relocate to (29.6%).

The majority of professionals are "likely" to relocate (48.3%) and 39.4% are "actively looking to relocate". No respondents stated that they would "never" relocate for a permanent position. With regards to the most popular locations for relocation, with a huge 57.4% of the vote, Europe is the most popular region to relocate to. After Europe in the following order were North America (11.8%), Asia Pacific (9.7%), the Middle East (5.1%), Africa (1.5%) and Latin America (1.0%). 13.3% of respondents would be willing to consider relocating anywhere. With 33.3% of the vote, Switzerland is the most popular country for Finance professionals within permanent positions to relocate to, followed by the US, which received 12.3% and the UK, which received 9.2%. The majority of permanent professionals working within Finance feel that 3-5 years would be the ideal period of time to relocate (53.3%), with 23.6% of respondents expressing a preference to relocate for "as long as possible". The majority of permanent staff would consider relocating as a contractor (59.5%). The key reasons that they would do this are firstly to gain specific skills and experience (35.7%), secondly to get a higher rate of pay (27.8%), and thirdly to experience another culture or location (20.0%).
