WHAT IS THE VFCCE? A statewide educational foundation that works with Virginia’s 23 community colleges, the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education supports student success and provides financial assistance to all students who dream of attending college. When you support the VFCCE, you support access, affordability, and student success at EVERY Virginia Community College. We invite you to join us in our mission of providing access to education for all Virginians.

FOUNDATION PRIORITIES WORKFORCE CREDENTIAL GRANTS Training for highdemand credentials is more accessible and more affordable than ever before thanks to the 2016 Virginia General Assembly and the administration of Governor Terry McAuliffe. The newly adopted Workforce Credentials Grant Program, the nation’s first pay-forperformance plan, will cover two-thirds of the training costs for individuals pursuing credentials in highdemand fields.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS This innovative, nationally recognized program helps Virginia’s foster youth earn the postsecondary credentials they need to achieve an independent and successful life. Great Expectations is offered at 18 of Virginia’s Community Colleges. Connecting foster youth with an adult coach committed to their success provides the “wrap-around” support these teenagers need.

RURAL VIRGINIA HORSESHOE INITIATIVE The Rural Virginia Horseshoe Initiative tackles the challenge of preparing those in the state’s rural horseshoe for the jobs of the future. Were “rural Virginia” its own state, it would be home to more than two million people and rank 50th in the nation in educational attainment. This VFCCE initiative seeks to double the percentage of rural residents who earn an associate degree or other college credential from 26 percent to 52 percent.

SCHOLARSHIPS Through named scholarships and prestigious fellows programs, outstanding students of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to apply for scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, and also receive invaluable mentoring and leadership training. Nearly $2.5 million has been awarded to 546 students through the VFCCE over the past 10 years. The VFCCE also works with statewide donors to provide Commonwealth Legacy Scholarships at each of the 23 community colleges.

FUNDING EXCELLENCE Public funding supports only a basic level of programs, services and facilities at Virginia’s Community Colleges. As enrollments grow at Virginia’s Community Colleges, student needs outpace diminished state funding and shrinking budgets. Support from donors like you fund those unmet needs. Your contributions are an investment in Virginia’s future that yields a profound return, enhancing the quality of life for all Virginians.
