TEXAS GULF COAST

ASID TEXAS GULF COAST CHAPTER 7026 Old Katy Road, Suite 285 Houston, Texas 77024

Wow! The first couple of months have been a whirlwind! If this is a sign of what is to come, let’s keep the positive momentum moving ahead.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2014-2015 President Letecia Ellis, Allied ASID 832-257-1876 tgccpresident@gmail.com President-Elect Martha Lurie, ASID, Industry Partner of ASID 713-622-5271 Martha@johnbrookshouston.com

First, a huge congrats goes to this year’s Design Award winners! It was a great night, and to see everyone come together to celebrate design was wonderful. We had a record number of entries this year and we hope to keep this upward trend going for years to come. Thank you to the committee chairs – Michelle Maresh, Siri Roark, Punita Valambhia, and Amy Collier – for pulling together such a great event. It was a beautifully designed night!

Past President/Nominations Debra Sabrsula, Allied ASID 979-320-7754 debra@sabsdesigns.com

I’m also excited to announce that we had our most successful Student Career Day to date. Over 160 students converged upon the Decorative Center Houston to take part of this day. The committee, led by Shasta Swift and Kevin Hambry from Houston Community College, created seminars that covered topics

Financial Director Donna Vining, FASID 281-320-2600 donna@viningdesign.com

from Residential & Commercial Design to NCIDQ and LEED Accreditation. Students had their choice to attend their preferred seminars, and Legrand (thanks Amy Collier!) provided a design charrette for those who were not in session. The Board would like to everyone who took time out of their busy schedule to

Communications Director Shawna Roorda, ASID 713-952-4357 sroorda@bentwoodofhouston.com

participate: Sari Karki-Rajabi, Crystal Reeves, Siri Roark, Sharon Staley, Debra Sabrsula, Nubia Heines,

Professional Development Director Janus Lazaris, Allied ASID 713-666-1566 janus@janusdesigngroup.com

ID Collection, Eggersman, David Sutherland, Duralee, Donghia. Lastly, to each design program advisor

Membership Director Michelle Stream, Allied ASID 303-817-5192 michellestream@gmail.com At-Large Director Larry Boykin, Industry Partner of ASID 713-937-0126 larry@imageelectric.net

Donna Vining, Colley Hodges, Megan Carritheres, Carla Aston, Dennis NcNabb, Bill Patterson, Lauren Amber Prestenback, Laura Manchee, Stephanie Burritt, Mary Wilson, Beth Lindsey and Janus Lazaris. Huge thanks go to Christy Abercrombie with the Decorative Center Houston, as well as Americana Café,

from our area colleges and universities whom encouraged their students to participate, we express gratitude for your support!

Also, everyone had a fantastically spooky time at this year’s Social Network Annual Halloween Bash. Hosted by Ferguson, Judy Bonica and her team created a night to remember. Steve Clifton served as the MC for the night and the costumes were creatively fun. If you missed out this year, be sure to add this event to your calendar for next year.

Lastly, thank you to Kim Sawyer for taking time to speak with our board members and committee chairs during our annual Leadership Seminar. Janus Lazaris, our Professional Development Director, pulled

Student Representative Andrea Yanes, Student ASID 281-221-0114 andrea_yanes@hotmail.com

together a great program! Thanks to everyone who was in attendance.

As I mentioned before, our goal is to advance the profession and influence the design community and create a brand that speaks for itself. With that said, we look forward to seeing everyone for our Annual

2014 TGCC ASID Design Awards The 2014 TGCC ASID Design Awards were the largest yet! With a record number of entries and a record number of attendees, it made for a festive night. This was the first year with a completely online submittal/payment process along with a first of entering as a large or small firm. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive for the ease of the entry process. A huge thank you to the Design Awards Chairs – Siri Roark, Michelle Maresh, Punita Valambhia, and Amy Collier, their amazing committee members, and numerous volunteers. The committee spent months planning and preparing a wonderful night for all. The room was amazingly beautiful

thanks to Punita’s talent. The famous Smilebooth was back thanks to Legrand, Houston Design Resources, Eggersmann, and Peck & Company. Custom-designed, etched French doors invite you into this bar. A custom, 16foot illuminated glass counter softly transitions through six eye-catching colors. Modern details and a purposeful mix of materials give this bar an edge and highlight the owners’ ancient riverbed fossil, hung in the center at its place of honor. Metallic wall covering on the bar front adds texture, and multi-tonal wood trim details lead the eye to up-lit barrel vaults in the ceiling. The client’s appreciation of art, technology, and quality is evident throughout this four-story home. Incorporating their various collections and interests involved working with an integrated system controlling lighting, HVAC, security, window coverings, and even a theater carved out of the attic. Since we were involved throughout construction, in addition to all finish selections, we designed custom flooring, rugs, furniture, wall coverings, window coverings, fireplaces, and lighting as part of this project.

For a family of five, the design needed to be comfortable and casual enough for children, yet suitable for entertaining adults, as well. The removal of the wall between the kitchen and the family room created a better interior flow that is more conducive for the clients’ open and relaxed lifestyle. The reclaimed wood beams adds warmth to this very charming 1940’s home.

HERITANCE® HANDCRAFTED SERIES

OPEN A WORLD OF NEW DESIGN POSSIBILITIES. The natural beauty of wood is a hard act to follow. But our new Handcrafted Series features designer finishing techniques that uniquely accent the color and character of the genuine hardwood. See for yourself how beautifully the artistic details of these custom shutters can be integrated into your client’s homes.

The Social Network By Suly Weissman Interior Designer - Allied ASID First I'd like to introduce myself to all of you and express my honor and gratitude to be Chairing the always fun and exciting Social Network for the next year. I look forward to all of the events that we have planned and continue to grow as a chapter. We will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary in April and it brings a smile to my face to see how much we have grown not only as a chapter but as a great group of friends and colleagues. I'd like to say thank you to Michelle Stream - Membership Director who served as our chair for the past year and has been an incredible mentor to me; as well as our two other original founding members Leticia Ellis ASID President & Shawna Roorda - Communications Director. It has been fun working with you ladies. We had an incredible time at Casa del Caballo in September. The attendance was great and we had the pleasure of meeting new students and perspective future members. The restaurant staff was very hospitable and made us feel right at home.

A great BIG thank you to Judy Bonica for making our annual Halloween party at Ferguson an affair to remember! Every year it keeps getting bigger and better; the costume contest was fantastic, the music was so much fun, the food and drinks were always flowing. It was amazing seeing you all, meeting new faces. The increase in student participation is incredible and overall the evening was unforgettable.

Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to keep in touch, see what's happening, and if you'd like to get more involved with us, we would love to have you on board!
