ENHANCE YOUR HOME WI-FI EXPERIENCE! A good Wi-Fi signal in your home is more important than ever before. In the past DRN has provided helpful tips to improve your home Wi-Fi network, like making sure your router is updated, located in the best spot, and using the right Wi-Fi settings. These suggestions have been appropriate for single device homes. However, as Internet usage and devices continue to grow there is more demand for Wi-Fi coverage all over the home and beyond. Every member of the family is using devices, possibly in every room of the home. Internet usage continues to grow from streaming, gaming, surfing, working and more. If you think you have high Internet usage in your home, ask yourself these questions: 1) Am I having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi in certain areas of my home?

Pay your DRN bill securely online via the easy to use app or web portal.

2) Does my device suddenly disconnect from the network for no apparent reason?

To access the SmartHub App: • Visit App Store/Marketplace • Search for SmartHub • Follow installation instructions

3) Does it take a long time to download large files? 4) Do streaming movies pause or stop altogether? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s time to consider a different type of home Wi-Fi solution, one that’s designed to address the most common problems people

experience in their home Wi-Fi networks. The best solution is exciting new technology called Managed Whole Home Wi-Fi. What is Managed Whole Home Wi-Fi? Inside your home, your Internet signal is delivered using a cable connected to a small box. This box is known as a router or an “access point” (AP), because it’s the point in your home that your devices access in order to connect to the Internet. Access can be delivered using an Ethernet cable connected directly from your device into the box (most common with desktop computers), or via Wi-Fi. The brand name of the router DRN 2 Welcome New Employees offers is a Calix “GigaCenter,” one of the best 3 G.O.L.F Tournament on the market.

WHOLE HOME WI-FI Continued from page 1.

Like your current Wi-Fi network, Managed Whole Home Wi-Fi uses a router to transmit the Wi-Fi signal your devices connect to. What’s different is that it combines the router with a series of small wireless devices – called access points which you place in different rooms in your home. These access points communicate with the router and provide you with a strong Wi-Fi signal everywhere, whether it’s your bedroom, your home office, or even your backyard. How can you improve your Wi-Fi coverage? The easiest way to get a strong Wi-Fi signal throughout your home, and even in your yard, is by creating a bigger Wi-Fi network. The GigaCenter is already transmitting the strongest signal allowed by Federal regulations, so we can’t “turn it up”. However, we can provide customers with additional access points, called satellites, that work seamlessly with the GigaCenter to enlarge the network and provide them with what has become known as Whole Home Wi-Fi or Mesh Wi-Fi. These AP’s “mesh” with the GigaCenter to do this, which is why these bigger networks are technically called “mesh networks.” Easy to Use —With Whole Home Wi-Fi, we’re simply enlarging the existing network.

WHY DO I HAVE WI-FI ISSUES?

There are a number of reasons for weak signals or dead zones:

Today’s homes are getting bigger, and the further you move away from your router, the weaker your Wi-Fi signal becomes, simply because the signal has to travel a longer distance.

Walls can get in the way especially, those made of concrete or were built more than 60 years ago using chicken wire (yes, really) under the plaster, which blocks Wi-Fi signals.

Wi-Fi signals can be susceptible to interference from microwaves, garage door openers, baby monitors and other devices.

You may have many devices connected at once: Every one in your family probably has at least one device, like a phone, tablet, gaming system, and printer. Plus, new “smart” devices use Wi-Fi, including your smart door lock, smart fridge, security system, etc.

READITECH TO HOST 2019 TECH CAMP This summer, July 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., students from across DRN’s service territory will again have the opportunity to attend ReadiTech camp in Ellendale. The camp provides many hands-on activities for kids, ages 12-17 and focuses on understanding the diversity and future of technology. DRN ReadiTech began hosting the annual tech camp at its Ellendale headquarters in 2016. Previous years, students worked on creating Lego robotics and wearable technology. They also played technology-related games and created learningbased projects. Students left the camp with a greater knowledge of technology, its capabilities and how it enhances life in rural North Dakota. For more information and to register for the free camp visit online: readitech.com.
