Company Development
Dr. Markus Rechlin is an accomplished executive, investor, and leadership advisor whose career spans more than three decades across engineering, private equity, strategic consulting, and executive management. Known for his focus on holistic business leadership, people-centric culture, and long-term value creation, Dr. Rechlin has built a reputation as a trusted partner to companies navigating growth, transformation, and strategic evolution.

A Career Defined by Leadership and Strategic Vision
Born in Berlin and raised in Berlin, Trier, and Kiel, Germany, Dr. Rechlin pursued his passion for engineering at RWTH Aachen University, earning a Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.-Ing. in Mechanical Engineering with the support of the prestigious Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes scholarship. His early professional experience began at Drägerwerk AG & Co. KGaA, where he managed the Intensive Care business unit and quickly learned the value of interpersonal leadership and team trust.
Following his time at Dräger, Dr. Rechlin transitioned into strategy consulting as a Principal at The Boston Consulting Group in Hamburg before moving into private equity leadership. As Executive Vice President of Portfolio at Bain Capital in London and Munich, he advised and supported companies across diverse industries, refining his expertise in enterprise transformation, leadership development, and value creation.
In 2004, Dr. Rechlin founded CCP Capital Consulting Partners in Hamburg, serving as Managing Director and advising companies on strategic growth and investment opportunities. He
later joined SLM Solutions Group AG — first as Chairman of the Supervisory Board and then as CEO — leading the 3D printing company through a period of significant expansion and innovation.
Leadership at MAREVEST: Investing in Companies and People
Since 2017, Dr. Rechlin has served as Managing Director of MAREVEST Beteiligungs GmbH in Hamburg, where he combines decades of strategic leadership with a passion for conscious business development. MAREVEST’s model is built around two complementary pillars: coinvesting in midsized companies with strong leadership potential, and coaching executive teams to enhance strategic direction, leadership culture, and organizational performance.
Rather than building a traditional in-house structure, Dr. Rechlin collaborates with a network of independent partners on a project-by-project basis, often working remotely. This agile model allows MAREVEST to remain flexible, targeted, and deeply involved in the companies it supports. His current projects include supporting innovative search fund investments in Germany and advising companies on strategic growth while fostering leadership cultures that drive sustained success.
A Philosophy of Holistic, People-Centered Leadership
Throughout his career, Dr. Rechlin has recognized that successful organizations are built on more than just sound strategies and strong financials. He emphasizes the integration of “hard” business factors — such as structure, processes, and strategy — with “soft” factors like mindset, culture, and behavior. Over the past 15 years, he has immersed himself in the study of psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral science to better understand how subconscious beliefs and habits shape organizational success.
This holistic philosophy forms the foundation of the leadership frameworks and playbooks he now applies through MAREVEST. His approach has been shaped not only by positive role models, such as Steve Barnes at Bain Capital, but also by observing ineffective leadership practices — lessons that have informed his belief in trust, empowerment, and authentic leadership as the keys to unlocking organizational potential.
Navigating Challenges and Transforming Vision into Reality
Dr. Rechlin’s career has been marked by pivotal challenges that shaped his leadership approach. Early in his career, managing a 200-person unit at Dräger taught him the importance of trust, communication, and team alignment. More recently, he faced the need to pivot MAREVEST’s business model after discovering that leadership and culture, while critical, cannot be reliably assessed from the outside in isolation from broader market dynamics. This realization led to a more diversified and adaptive investment strategy, one that now integrates leadership support with rigorous market evaluation.
Continuous Growth and Commitment to Purpose
Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Dr. Rechlin is currently writing a book aimed at helping executives lead companies “consciously and holistically.” He maintains daily habits — including meditation, exercise, nature walks, and dedicated writing sessions — that sustain his focus and creativity. A lifelong learner, he continues to draw insights from books, podcasts, and collaborations with peers, and he regularly integrates new leadership methodologies into his work.
For those entering the fields of engineering, leadership, or private equity, Dr. Rechlin’s advice is deeply personal and philosophical: understand your purpose early, cultivate mind, body, heart, and soul together, and focus on energy — not just time — as a driver of meaningful impact. Above all, he advocates for leadership rooted in gratitude, trust, compassion, and collaboration, values he believes are essential to building enduring organizations and purposeful careers.
