Main Stage Breakout Sessions Breakout Session #1A: Ian Springett, OnTheMarket – Competition and Change in the UK Portals Space As the Chief Executive Officer, Ian has driven the successful launch and growth of OnTheMarket and led its demutualisation in preparation for Admission to AIM, alongside a £30 million new capital raise in February last year. At the Conference… Ian will consider future developments in the UK portals space and cover opportunities and threats for estate agency, including ways in which Network members can both defend their position and thrive in the market. Challenging trading conditions and the impact of genuine competition have driven more agents to take stock and review their portal options. Ian will review the response of portals in their competition to deliver value to agents and consumers.
Breakout Session #2A: Nathan Emerson – Evolving for the Future Nathan is a highly experienced estate agent and property industry consultant, who works alongside business owners to structurally improve, expand and increase their market share. He also works with new industry suppliers, advising on product content. At the Conference… Packed with hints, tips and shortcuts, the session will explore the changing environment of transactional decisions. Looking at and understanding the power, types and structure of customer reviews, as well as how these can be achieved and increase market share. Nathan will also look at the key aspects of the buyer and seller journeys.

Keynote Speakers Cally Beaton
Media executive, entrepreneur and corporate speaker, Cally Beaton began her career as the head of an independent television production company that was bought by ITV. She joined the ITV board as the youngest and only woman member (and for a while sat alongside David Cameron). She left to start a creative consultancy and production company, as well as joining Viacom as Senior Vice President of International Sales.
Oliver Gleave, founder of property software providers, Jupix and Loop, is an established entrepreneur with a track record for building winning teams. As a technology specialist in the residential estate agency sector, Oliver has vast experience in helping estate agents utilise technology to streamline their processes, enhance their client relationships and ultimately, build a more profitable business. Throughout his career, Oliver has observed and studied how technology is fundamentally changing the way customers want to interact with their suppliers. He has seven years of operational experience and a further two years as a non-exec and advisor in various technology businesses.
Back by popular demand, Conference favourite, Roger Martin-Fagg returns as this year’s keynote economist. Roger started his career as an economist with the New Zealand Government and returned to the UK to work in the air transport industry before teaching strategy and economics at the Henley Management College.
At Viacom, Cally oversaw a £500 million budget for channels including Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount, including programmes from South Park to Friends, Russell Howard’s Good News to SpongeBob SquarePants. Responsible for selling programmes and formats around the world she combined working with on-screen and production talent with business planning and strategy. Her love of performance and business knowledge has also seen her coach and train senior figures from a range of industries. At the Conference… Cally will bring humour and energy to her session, ensuring you leave with best practice recommendations that can be applied to your own businesses, from the moment you return to the office. Drawing on her vast business experience, she will discuss how to be agile and entrepreneurial, even when the current market conditions or economic landscape make it difficult to do so. She will also focus on how to inspire and lead through change, using examples from her own personal and professional journeys of reinvention.
At the Conference… Oliver’s session, Maximising the Use of Technology in Modern Day Estate Agency, will explore where estate agents can add value and how, coupled with technology, your team can amplify a positive client experience. He will deep-dive into what buyers and sellers really want, including the importance of developing a customer relationship through meaningful advice and a service-centric approach, steps that will ultimately position your business as a trusted property advisor. Oliver will also address today’s estate agency challenges, as well as those in the future. This session will offer practical and realistic solutions to enable you to build lasting relationships and ultimately establish your business as a market leader.
He specialises in making economic activity, trends and indicators understandable to non-economists, cutting through the jargon to reveal what the numbers, market shifts and policies really mean. As a consultant, Roger has designed and facilitated strategic management programmes for organisations including PowerGen, Lloyds Banking Group, EDS, and The Economist. He is also the author of Making Sense of the Economy, a practical explanation of everything from GDP to money supply to interest rates, aimed at those who are not economists. At the Conference… Roger will provide an economic outlook for the near and long term, discussing the current and future impact of Brexit, as well as what businesses should do to prepare. He will share his insights into the financial and policy worlds, and combine these with management strategy, so that you may understand how the current economic climate may impact the UK housing market and your business.
