Drinking more coffee could leave you full of beans, according to a new study. A review of research by the British Journal of Medicine has concluded we should wake up and smell the coffee if we want to live longer! Well to be more precise, the report says supping three to four cups a day may have some health benefits including a reduced risk of liver disease and some cancers and a lower risk of dying from a stroke. It is difficult to say exactly how coffee is beneficial us, but researchers believe that it is to do with the anti-oxidants found within coffee that can help prevent damage to cells in the body. However, coffee-lovers shouldn’t get too excited just yet, despite the research showing the coffee drinkers from the study experienced these health benefits, it is unclear whether the coffee was the cause of them. A BBC report concludes that instead of “putting all your bets on coffee being good for you, you could instead do something that has been proven to extend life - take a brisk, 20-minute walk to the nearest coffee shop whether you order a cup or not”

Gardening is a physical activity, encouraging a broad range of movements that encompass multiple parts of the body. The NHS recommends a minimum of 150 minutes per week of moderate level physical activity for health maintenance and the prevention of many chronic diseases and health conditions. A typical gardener – even a hobbyist gardener – surpasses that recommendation regularly. Gardening is a “whole” body activity. As opposed to certain tasks and exercises that target just the arms, for example, gardening encourages moderate exertion from all the main muscle groups. We’re all familiar with the need to “get a breath of fresh air.” Gardening promotes a daily dose of the great outdoors.

Gardening is generally regarded as a calming and relaxing activity. Dedicated time to nurturing plants provides an opportunity for peaceful thought and focus. Be organised Being too organised is never a bad thing when it comes to jetting off somewhere new, especially if you are travelling on your own. When planning to travel with a wheelchair, the first thing you should do is contact your airline to confirm any particular requirements such as airport assistance or seating requirements (for example, location, leg room, adjustable armrest). Having these arrangements in place beforehand will hopefully make your check-in experience stress-free.

2. Give yourself plenty of time at the airport Try your best to check-in at least two hours early for your flight because the time it takes to wait in lines, go through security and get some last minute dutyfree items always takes longer than you would expect. Not forgetting you will need to be at your gate at least 45 minutes before departure time.

3. Don't overpack You will have to carry with you what you bring; even when checking in your luggage, you will still have to carry it to the check-in point and from the baggage claim. Remember all medically-necessary items travel for free, but it is a good idea to bring any prescriptions with you.

6. Prepare to be first on the plane and last off it Passengers needing assistance are the first ones on, and last ones off the plane so keep this in mind when travelling.

4. Security may not be as bad as you fear Going through security can be a lengthy, stressful process for all of us but it is important to remember that airport security is in place for our safety. When travelling with a wheelchair, you may get to bypass the long queues, and you don't have to take off your shoes if you can't. However, if you can't walk unassisted, you must submit to a manual screening where your wheelchair will be tested too.

5. Give the cabin crew specific instructions Nobody knows your wheelchair better than you do, so ensure you pass on detailed instructions about how to move and store your wheelchair to help make sure it doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t get damaged. As another precaution against damage or loss of your wheelchair, it is a good idea to remove all detachable parts before your wheelchair is stored and label the chair with your name, address and destination airport. Perhaps even take a photo of your wheelchair before you leave it with the cabin crew so if there is any damage you can have a record of how you left it.

7. Prepare to be asked questions about your wheelchair

type as if it is a collapsible manual wheelchair this could be stored easily in the cabin depending on available space. However if you are travelling with an electric wheelchair, to store your wheelchair safely on board your chosen airline will need to know your wheelchair type, dimensions, weight, the number of batteries installed, type of battery and instructions for preventing inadvertent operation. The type of questions and allowances may vary depending on your chosen airline, so it is a good idea to check with your airline beforehand. During the flight, your wheelchair will be stored conveniently for immediate availability on arrival, and your carrier will supply you with an onboard wheelchair to take you to and from your seat.

8. Take out insurance Many insurance companies will cover you for taking your wheelchair abroad; this covers you for damage and theft. It's a very good idea to look into insurance before you go for complete peace of mind, it doesn't cost as much as you think and you may even get free cover for a trial period. Comfort Grip Cutlery

Oats A bowl of porridge or overnight oats for breakfast could be the key to lower cholesterol levels. Why? Oats contain a rich form of soluble fibre called beta-glucan which helps lower cholesterol levels. It is recommended to consume 3g of beta glucan each day as part of a balanced diet.

Barley Barley is found in many cereals, soups, stews, coffee substitutes, whisky and some beers. Like oats, barley also has the benefit of lowering cholesterol levels. Why? Barley is also very rich in beta-glucan. Beta glucan lowers cholesterol by binding the excess cholesterol in the intestines preventing it from being absorbed.

Apples Apparently, an apple a day can keep the doctor away with it being another cholesterol buster! Why? Apples are extremely low in saturated fat like all fruits and vegetables, therefore eating them helps to keep saturated fat intake low. Apples are also rich in the soluble fibre pectin which forms a gel with water, this then binds to excess cholesterol preventing it from being absorbed in the body.

Beans Beans, peas and lentils are all a beneficial source of cholesterollowering fibres. Why? Beans and other legumes are extremely high in both soluble and insoluble fibres. The soluble fibres bind to excess cholesterol when in the body and in turn lower cholesterol levels.

Rapeseed oil Switching your cooking oil to rapeseed oil could be a simple solution to lowering cholesterol levels. Why? Rapeseed oil contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids and less saturated fat in comparison to many other oils which have high amounts of saturated fat that can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood. By replacing these oils with monounsaturated alternatives such as rapeseed oil, it can make a big difference to lowering cholesterol levels.

There are many different reasons, and normally a combination of risk factors, why people fall in later life. One of the main reasons is simply the natural deterioration in a personâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s muscle strength and eyesight associated with their natural ageing process. This can cause difficulty with balance, bending and stepping.

Falls are not inevitable, Falls are preventable. According to the NHS, 6 out of 10 falls happen in the home or garden with one of the most common places to fall being in the bathroom. Wet and slippery surfaces, poor lighting, loose mats and flooring, difficulty stepping over and into a bath or shower, bending to wash and clean combined with the necessity to visit the bathroom more often especially at night creates a multitude of worrying potential hazards.

1 in 10 older people who fall become afraid to leave their homes in case they fall again, causing increased isolation and reduced independence. Statistic by Age UK Most importantly though healthcare experts believe the vast majority of falls could be prevented with some fairly modest changes to a person’s lifestyle and home. NHS recommendations include regular strength and balance exercises, a medication review, a vision test and a home hazard assessment.

The following safety steps will help minimise bathroom falls before they happen:
