‘Ferocious Dog’ are a folk rock band from Warsop, Nottinghamshire. They were formed in the late 80’s by the lead vocalist and guitarist Ken Bonsall, fiddle player Dan Booth and Ian Wagstaff playing the Bodhran( Irish Drum ). A short while after the band grew with the addition of Dave Drury on bass, Paul Newbury on drums and Jimmy Carrol on guitar, banjo and penny whistle. The band split a couple of times in the early years but the tragic death of Paul Newbury in 2005 left them without a drummer. Brad Drury (Dave’s son) filled this spot and the band was also joined by Kyle Peters on guitar. There is a showman in most bands and this appeared in early 2011 in the form of Ellis Waring playing mandolin and guitar.

The bands newer line up consisting of Ken, Dan, Dave, Ellis, Kyle and Brad have taken the festival scene by storm with their music. In 2012 they released their first album in the form of Ferocious Dog and December 2012 saw the release of their second EP Revolution.

Too Late

Freeborn John

Sitting up in the morning time waiting for you You said we'll have a good time girl tell me what did you do And so it’s up and down in the car wash And telling those lies Well I can see behind those eyes No more waiting for you And so it’s up and down in the car wash And telling those lies Well I can see behind those eyes No more waiting for you

We were fed upon a diet of lies, we rallied to the cause In history well its all the same, the poor folks fight the wars There’s not a tear that fills my sad blue eyes As we gaze into the blood red sky

Wait and see I told you so it’s in the past So don't let go I never tried to cast a spell on you ooh ooh ooh Never tell me that you care I'll hold my head up everywhere And in the end I told you I'd be true © FD 2012

Now I’m standing in the rain, against a blood soaked wall We the proletariat still answer to the call For those who judge me won’t you spare a thought For all the wars and battles that we fought Parliament promised changes, we fought against the king In the end when the war was won it didn’t change a thing My only crime was fighting for a cause Against this tyranny and unjust laws Cromwell had the victory and power in his hand Free thinkers and the Levellers cut down by his command Freeborn John your vision lingers on If not in law then in my mind and song Free me In the land that calls my name Can’t you see we’re all to blame Go and hang your heads in shame Sea green ribbon worn for me In the name of liberty So our children can be free © FD 2012

Hell Hounds There’s not a man can help me They only make it worse Tried and tried for years on end to try to break this curse This curse was cast upon me by a Madman’s dying breath Feel his hands around my throat as he Drags me to my death And the devil sends the hell hounds for me boys The devil sends the hell hounds for me Hell hounds come a calling They’re howling at my door I wish they’d come and claim me I can’t take this anymore Tonight I lay with a buxom whore In a brothel drenched in beer Only the dead will understand or really know my fear They chase me through the dark streets They’re screaming out my name The more I try to run away The more it seems in vane They chase me to the dark wood Down by the riverside And I wish they’d come and claim me Cos forever I can’t hide

The hell hounds come a calling When I’m lying in my bed I try to cover up my ears but the how ling’s in my head The devil’s in the corner He’s laughing in my face As they drag me screaming through the night To my final resting place They smash my head wide open They rape and torture me They put a rope around my neck And hang me from a tree They flog me with the nine tails They hang me out to dry So the crows can feed upon my bones To make sure that I die And the devil sends the hell hounds for me boys The devil sends the hell hounds for me They come to take me down Take me down Take me down Well they come to take me down Take me down Take me down...down

And the devil sends the hell hounds for me boys The devil sends the hell hounds for me © FD 2012

Quiet Paddy Quiet Paddy was a quiet man, An honest man they say He lived in Connemara all his days He just wants a quiet life to work his piece of land The soldiers came and blew his dreams away

They say that Connemara was a rugged road Thunder storms turn night time into day When fighting in the mountains it’s a way of life There’s rebellion in those hills I heard them say Listen to the west winds And listen to the cries And Paddy’s there plotting your demise Here was a man with his sword and his pride They’ve left him as an outlaw with no place hide Left him as an outlaw, with no place to hide

Listen to the west winds And listen to the cries And Paddy’s there plotting your demise Here was a man with his sword and his pride They’ve left him as an outlaw with no place hide Left him as an outlaw, with no place to hide

The battle started raging on into the night The River running by was turned to red “The bloodshed and the slaughter wouldn’t cease” they cried ‘til every soldier there was lying dead

A thousand miles from nowhere when you’re on the rugged road The highway’s paved with danger all the way So he gathered him an army and he swore revenge For the rape of his homelands he would pay

Listen to the west winds And listen to the cries And Paddy’s there plotting your demise Here was a man with his sword and his pride They’ve left him as an outlaw with no place hide Left him as an outlaw, with no place to hide

Listen to the west winds And listen to the cries And Paddy’s there plotting your demise Here was a man with his sword and his pride They’ve left him as an outlaw with no place hide Left him as an outlaw, with no place to hide © FD 2012

On The Rocks I’m gonna fly up to the sun I’m gonna make a meal for two But not for me, I’m going to the sea to have some fun Gonna go where the ladies play Where everybody drinks Chardonnay And when the comedown calls I’m gonna buy the rocks to break my fall What have I done I’m gonna throw it all away I’ll sing my song Gonna make a better day

And when the night turns into day I think of things that I wanna say But it’s time to fold Cos this day has gone from hot, to warm to cold Where’s the man cos I wanna pay I play the pipes on a rainy day And when the comedown calls I’m gonna use the rocks to break my fall What have I done I’m gonna throw it all away I’ll sing my song Gonna make a better day in the life of this gold paradise, hard to walk away It’s harder to find when the sun never shines in this golden holiday But now it’s time to have my day

And when this day has been and passed I’m gonna look through the looking glass I’m gonna sell my soul Gonna find the man who’ll turn it into gold Where’s the man cos I wanna pay I play the pipes on a rainy day And when the comedown calls There’s no more rocks to break my fall

What have I done I’m gonna throw it all away I’ll sing my song Gonna make a better day

What have I done I’m gonna throw it all away I’ll sing my song Gonna make a better day and the life that is called paradise it’s time to walk away it’s harder to find when the sun never shines in this lonely long day now it’s time to have my day

and the life that is called paradise it’s time to walk away it’s harder to find when the sun never shines in this lonely long day now it’s time to have my day

Mairi’s Wedding Pt.II I read the news today oh boy, Daniel took his medicine and filled the world with joy, And he went, Up down and round we go, Heel for a heel and a toe for a toe, Mairi’s called it off and she can find her own way home. She met a lazy boy named Jack, Hasn’t worked in 20 years, Spent 10 years on his back, And he went, Up down and round we go, Heel for a heel and a toe for a toe, Mairi’s called it off and she can find her own way home. Jack looks of ways for love to steal, Don’t you drop your head my son, I know just how you feel, And he went, Up down and round we go, Heel for a heel and a tie for a toe, Mairi’s called it off and she can find her own way home. Oh Mairi dear what have you done? Broken far too many hearts and now you’re on the run, And it goes on, Up down and round we go, Heel for a heel and a toe for a toe, Mairi’s called it off and she can find her own way... © FD 2012

The Glass Had a fight in my head today and that’s the state of my life now can’t you see To walk away would be a bigger man but there’s bigger fights in my life now can’t you see This worlds not good enough for me, so I’ll put the wine glass down and leave it for eternity I went to fight in a foreign land but now I find that my depression fights with me To fight a war at such an early age, they didn’t prepare me for the things I had to see This worlds not good enough for me, so I’ll put the wine glass down and leave it for eternity I went a walk with my thoughts today down by the beach and it’s where I long to be I walk and talk along a lonely mile but in the end it never made much sense to me This worlds not good enough for me, so I’ll put the wine glass down and leave it for eternity This worlds not good enough for me, so I’ll put the wine glass down and leave it for eternity Put the wine glass down and leave it for eternity..... © FD 2012
