Must-Visit Beaches in Crete When we talk about Crete, what is it that comes to your mind? Fascinating history, magnificent buildings, and exotic beaches, isn’t it? Well, you will be intrigued to know that the largest Greek island is home to some of the most fabulous beaches with interesting sea life and crystal clear water. In fact, many of these beaches are rated as the best beaches not just in Europe, but in the entire world. This article introduces you to some of the must-visit beaches in Crete that you explore on your next Europe trip. 1. Falassarna

Located at the one-hour drive distance from Chania town, Falassarna is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Crete. If you are looking for a place where you can get Instagram worthy turquoise water while enjoying beautiful sunsets, beach parties, and water sports, then this could be your ideal destination. While you are there, you can also visit the beach bars situated near the beach. 2. Elafonisi

Named after a small island nearby, Elafonisi beach is far from being small and is the second largest beach in western Crete. The water at the beach is clear to the level that you can see the bottom of almost everything around you and if you are visiting in the months after May, then you will get to witness it looking absolutely gorgeous and fairytale-like.

3. Glyka Nera

Famously known as “sweet water beach”, you will find freshwater sources on the beach. Surrounded by tall and lush trees, there are only two ways to reach this beach – by boat or by foot. The hiking trails by foot from both Loutro and Chora Sfakion have a few bays, steep cliffs, and a chapel. However, if you are not in the mood to trek, then a ferry ride would certainly be pleasant. 4. Balos

A protected natural beach area, you are sure to find a dense population of flora and fauna at Balos beach, including 400 different species of sea plants, more than 100 protected or endangered bird species, the green turtle, wild donkeys, and the Mediterranean Sea lobe at Balos. It is a serene experience to observe the green and azure colour of seawater. 5. Seitan Limania

Quite near to the airport in Chania, the beach is located on the Akrotiri cape in an S-shaped bay. Though it is only half an hour drive from Crete, you will have to walk through a rocky path to reach the beach from the parking spot. You are going to enjoy being at the beautiful beach and the path till there if you love to have some adventure while enjoying beautiful landscapes. Planning Your Move to Crete?
