449 ISLAMIC KHORASAN BRONZE PESTLE AND MORTAR WITH SILVER INLAY 12th-15th century AD A cast pestle and mortar, the pestle with flared flat end, ball to the other; the mortar tubular with broad flange to rim and base, the body with six silver-inlaid roundels featuring opposed birds; the rim with silver-inlaid calligraphic text and the base with similar text interrupted by three knotwork roundels. 2.5 kg, 15 cm (6"). A pestle and mortar pair comprising: a round-section pestle with expanding ends, bulb to the centre of the shaft; a bell-shaped mortar with flared base and everted rim, facetted body with panels of arabesque foliate ornament to the outer face. 451 ISLAMIC BRONZE BULL VESSEL Seljuk Empire, 11th-14th century AD A bulbous cast vessel with slightly flared neck and rolled rim, three stub legs to the underside, square-section handle from the rump to the rim of the neck with seven loops to the outer face; a bull-head spout to the front with prominent horns. 1.1 kg, 22 cm (8½"). A jug with broad body, deep shoulder, tapering neck and long channelled spout, round-section handle rivetted to the rear; the body decorated with roundels depicting a pair of birds and the neck with arabesque motifs; bands of silver-inlaid calligraphic text to the upper and lower body, and a third band on the shoulder. 847 grams, 29.5 cm (11¾").
