HAPPY BIRTHDAY REVEREND DR. JOE S. GREEN MAY 20, 1940

Born on Bayou Rapides, ninth child to Ada and Henry Green, the male child named Joe came into the world with a mission. He grew up sickly and puny - he would pass out without warning and seem unconscious for 510 minutes. This was more than a little inconvenient because he loved to swim. Somehow, he never drowned and lived to graduate from Peabody High School - when it was a African American designated public school. He attended Southern University to study engineering, while in the capital city of Louisiana, he asserted himself as an active Civil Rights Worker participating in lunch counter sit-ins and protest marches; frightening his mother who watched on TV his arrests for his civil disobedience. Later, he distinguished himself in the United States Army where he served for 26.5 years. He served a tour of duty in Korea. Reverend Green is a generous man with a great heart. He is a man of vision who is also a hard worker. He gives more of himself than he asks of others and says the word “yes” easier than the word “no”. He serves St Matthew Baptist Church as Senior Pastor, doing so for the last 28 and one half years. He faithfully champions less fortunate citizens who live in Rapides Parish and throughout the state of Louisiana. He is happily married, spoils three adult daughters and dotes on three grandchildren. “Training Your Replacement” is one of his favorite tenets and in this quest, he is constantly looking for someone to bless.
