Lincoln Park Library of Transportation

The Lincoln Park Library of Transportation is a Chicago based design which has the secondary feature of housing a DIVVY bike rental station on the base level. The four story building sits in a parking lot, adjascent to the Fullerton CTA train stop in Lincoln Park and is near the DePaul University Campus. The all-glass envelope is encased by an intricate mullion system to allow the greatest amount of natural light into the building, helping patrons read. Other than the bike rental, other programs within the building include private study rooms, main stacks, administration, and common areas.

SITE MODEL

The design of the suburban tower was created to remedy the flawed system of living in a suburb and working in the city. By dissecting the components of a suburban community, one could recreate a similar architectural scenario within the confines of the city. The tower is self-sustaining, meaning that a resident has every typical resource at their disposal without leaving the building. Along with the commercial amenities of a farmer’s market, a pharmacy, and a bar / restaurant, the building also has Indoor tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, a day care, a rooftop park, and a floor dedicated to “lemonade stand businesses” where residents can market their own products within their own community. This architectural solution allows for one to live in the comfort of a suburb without the necessity of a car or long commute.

Allerton Park SuTTer Arts Center

The Red Arch Performance Center is a venue, located in Allerton Park, IL, designed for summer students in the ďŹ ne and performing arts. Located in the heavily wooded outskirts of the park, the center is a hidden escape from the cramped urban environment of cities and college town in which students may be inspired by the nature which they are surrounded by. The red concrete arches are used to portray both the expression of noise cutting through the silent wildnerness and the movement of the audience as they gather to the focal point of the center: the main performance stage.

The Tain perToTance space sits under a glass doTe Thich is supported Ty a systeT oTconcrete spider trussesT The glass enTelope eTposes Toth the audience and the perTorTers to the Tild enTironTent surrounding the centerT This encourages the concept oTclosing oTT the student to the outside Torld and opening hiT or her up to the natural art oTthe parkT s landscape
