Maor Zirkin Becomes Drake’s All-Time Leader In Victories The 8-5 doubles win at the No. 1 position with Evgeny Silitski provided Drake a lead it didn’t relinquish in a 7-0 Missouri Valley Conference victory over Creighton on March 4, 2009 in Omaha, Neb. “It was a great honor to break the record for victories at Drake,” Zirkin explained. “It is an incredible accomplishment for Maor,” then Bulldog head coach Chase Hodges commented. “To earn 208 wins is incredible and I feel honored and privileged to have been able to coach and watch all his victories the past four years.” Zirkin went on to post a team-best 53-18 combined singles/ doubles ledger as a senior en route to becoming the first two-time MVC Player of the Year in league history. He finished his distinquished career with a 228-53 ledger, including 120-20 and 108-33 marks in singles and doubles play, respectively. Maor Zirkin became the first player in Missouri Valley Conference history to be twice named as player of the year in 2008 and 2009.

With one simple swing of the racket the record had fallen and Maor Zirkin triumphantly raised one finger in the air to symbolize his accomplishment on supplanting Robert Novotny (1993-97) and Dalibor Pavic (2004-08) atop the alltime Drake men’s tennis victory list with his 207th career triumph.
