GIVIN’ YOU THE BUSINESS by T.J. Clemente

Changes this Season

One new exciting facet of the approaching summer season in the Hamptons is a walk through the various hamlets to see the new businesses that have opened. Change is a huge part of the Hamptons scene, with businesses choosing to stake their piece of the American Dream on a Main Street in the Hamptons. In Southampton many new shops have opened this year, including Julia Gray Antiques, 20 Hampton Road, Southampton, described as a panorama of decorated furniture. Eighteenthcentury hand-painted French commodes, English chests with Adam-style hand-painted garlands, splendid chinoiserie armoires recalling the decorative artistry of the Far East during the 1730s are just samples of their artistry. Then there is Sitara Naghavi, 60 Jobs Lane, Southampton, a sculptural jewelry and functional art boutique. Southampton Animal Shelter Thrift Shop on Jobs Lane is a newcomer. Animal lovers of all kinds went into their attics and basements, created extra closet space and opened up a thrift shop. Next is Jack Wills, 54 Jobs Lane, Southampton, a shop that aims for the “University Crowd,” drawing from British history and tradition. It’s fun to walk through the shop to see (in their words) a “heavy dose of the hedonistic university lifestyle.” How can you not go take a peek? Next there is The Black Dog, located on 50 Jobs Lane, Southampton. Started on Martha’s Vineyard, this shop features their famous traditional products, from homemade baked goods to their top-selling signature crewneck logo tee. Then there is a favorite Southampton shop, Cynthia Rowley, but this is a new Cynthia Rowley – The Shop at Capri (Hotel), located at 281 County Rd 39A, Southampton. A longtime Job’s Lane favorite, Rowley has opened a new boutique that will feature the usual line of Rowley originals. Hey by the way it might be fun to check out the restoration of the Capri with its restaurant, all new this year. Please note that Besim Cukaj, owner of Besim’s Fine Cigars, moved off Jobs Lane to Main Street. Breezin’ Up also has moved this year to Main Street from Job’s Lane, whereas Brahmin Inc. is still on Job’s Lane, but next door to where they were! All in Southampton Village. In East Hampton Village there are some exciting changes too. Restoration Hardware, 69 Main Street, opened up their first Hamptons location with great fanfare. They specialize in educating the customer about the intricacies of high-quality restoration, maintenance and creation of delicate keepsakes. It was the space that international brand Tommy Hilfiger had occupied. Now that Kelly Smith’s A Little Bit of What you Fancy, a Hamptons tradition, has moved on, in its space is a newly renovated Michael Kors shop. The
