The Worship of Father, Son & Holy Spirit November 13, 2011 The Lord’s Day Welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus! If you are a guest with us, please be sure to sign our Registry when it is passed before the service. Children are welcome in our worship. We have a nursery available for children 3 and under. Children 4 to 6 years of age may be dismissed to Godly Play prior to the sermon. Thank you for joining us today and may the Lord richly bless you.

Song of Assembly1 Open the Eyes of My Heart

Baloche

Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart, I want to see You, I want to see You. To see You high and lifted up shining in the light of Your glory, Pour out Your power and love as we sing, “Holy, holy, holy.” Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart, I want to see You, I want to see You. Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, Holy, holy, holy, I want to see You.

Welcome and Preparation for Worship To come to Christ for life, is for the sinner to abandon his own righteousness and be ready to be made the righteousness of God in Christ; it is to disown his own wisdom and be guided by His; it is to repudiate his own will and be ruled by His; it is to unreservedly receive the Lord Jesus as his Saviour and Lord, as his All in all. ~ A. W. Pink Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?” “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. ~ Romans 11:33-36

The Lord Gives Us His Presence Responsive Call to Worship2

Psalm 100

Pastor: Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! People: Serve the LORD with gladness! Pastor: Come into his presence with singing! People: Know that the LORD, he is God! 1 2

All songs used by permission or covered under CCLI license # 391165. We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with his invitation and command to us to gather in His name.

1

Pastor: It is he who made us, and we are his; People: We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Pastor: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! All: For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Prayer of Adoration & Praise Hymn of Praise All Creatures of Our God and King

Francis of Assisi

All creatures of our God and King, Lift up your voice and with us sing, alleluia, alleluia! Thou burning sun with golden beam, Thou silver moon with softer gleam, O praise Him, O praise Him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! Thou rushing wind that art so strong, Ye clouds that sail in heav’n along, O praise Him, alleluia! Thou rising moon in praise rejoice, Ye lights of evening, find a voice, O praise Him, O praise Him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! Let all things their Creator bless, And worship Him in humbleness, O praise Him, alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, And praise the Spirit, Three in One, O praise Him, O praise Him, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

The Manifold Wisdom of Our God

Isaiah 55:8-11

Pastor: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. People: “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Pastor: “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, People: so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

The Lord Gives Us His Grace What does the law do for you?

Romans 3:19, 20

Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

We Confess our Sins Our God and Father, Your law exposes our hearts, uncovering the evil we have done and the good we have left undone. We’ve broken all of your commandments by trusting in created things, when we should have trusted only in you. Lord, we confess our sins to you, agreeing with you that they have been constant, offensive, and evil. Thank you for delivering us from your wrath and saving us through your Son, Jesus Christ. We come to you because you are “the LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” Lord, have mercy on us and forgive us; and enable us, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, more and more to die unto sin and live unto righteousness. In Christ Jesus we pray. ...Silent & Personalized Confession of Sin... Amen!

What does God’s grace through your faith in Jesus Christ do for you?

Romans 3:21-26

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it—the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Worship with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs Great God Who Saves Oh, the promises of God, the rock on which I stand, The truths to which I cling. His love that knows no bounds; He showers us with grace, Withholding no good thing. When I stumble and my faith is small, I will call Your name, great God who saves. And I would have despaired if I had not believed That You would come to me, great God who saves. And in my darkest hour, Your mercy and Your power Are reaching out to me, great God who saves. Oh, the mystery of God, who holds all space and time, Yet knows my every need. The vastness of Your power, the strength You give the weak; I soar on eagle’s wings. 3

Story

And in my pain and in my need, You heard me calling out Your name. When I was blind and could not see, You stepped in and saved a wretch like me, And saved a wretch like me. Great God who saves.

The Potter’s Hand

Zschech

Beautiful Lord, Wonderful Saviour, I know for sure, All of my days are held in your hands, crafted into your perfect plan. You gently call me into your presence, guiding me by Your Holy Spirit Teach me, dear Lord, to live all of my life through Your eyes. I’m captured by Your holy calling, set me apart, I know you’re drawing me to yourself, lead me Lord, I pray. Take me, mould me, use me, fill me. I give my life to the Potter’s hand. Call me, guide me, lead me, walk beside me. I give my life to the Potter's hand.

Prayers of Thanksgiving & Petition

Elder Greg Smith

…Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 4

His Tithes & Our Offerings

The Lord Gives Us His Word Sermon3

Pastor Brad Eades “What About Judas?” John 17:12

We Respond

God of Wonders

Byrd

Lord of all creation of water, earth and sky; The heavens are Your tabernacle. Glory to the Lord on high! God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are holy, holy. The universe declares Your Majesty. You are holy, holy. Lord of Heaven and earth, Lord of Heaven and earth. Early in the morning I will celebrate the light, When I stumble in the darkness, I will call your name by night. Hallelujah to the Lord of Heaven and earth. Hallelujah to the Lord of Heaven and earth. Hallelujah to the Lord of Heaven and earth. You are holy, holy. God of wonders beyond our galaxy, You are holy, holy. Precious Lord, reveal Your heart to me. Father, hold me, hold me. The universe declares Your Majesty. You are holy, holy, holy, holy!

The Lord Gives Us His Sacrament The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper Communion, also called The Lord’s Supper or Eucharist, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all committed followers of Jesus Christ to share in this sacrament: those who are baptized members of a congregation that proclaims the gospel, who are at peace with God and their neighbor, and who seek strength to live in a deeper communion with Jesus. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope that this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the Church.

Behold the Lamb Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away, slain for us: and we remember The promise made that all who come in faith find forgiveness at the cross. So we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice, As a sign of our bonds of peace around the table of the King.

4, 5, & 6 year-old children may be dismissed before the sermon to Godly Play in room 173.

The body of our Savior, Jesus Christ, torn for you: eat and remember The wounds that heal, the death that brings us life, paid the price to make us one. So we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice, As a sign of our bonds of love around the table of the King. The blood that cleanses every stain of sin, shed for you: drink and remember He drained death’s cup that all may enter in to receive the life of God. So we share in this Bread of Life, and we drink of His sacrifice, As a sign of our bonds of grace around the table of the King. And so with thankfulness and faith we rise to respond: and to remember. Our call to follow in the steps of Christ as His body here on earth. As we share in His suffering, we proclaim: Christ will come again! And we’ll join in the feast of heaven around the table of the King.

The Lord Gives Us His Blessing Benediction4

Numbers 6:24-26

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.

Crown Him with Many Crowns

Bridges

Crown him the Lord of heav’n, One with the Father known One with the Spirit thro’ Him giv’n from yonder glorious throne To thee be endless praise for thou for us has died. Be thou, O Lord, thro’ endless days Adored and magnified!

Just as God called us into His presence at the beginning, so now He commands His blessing upon us as we depart. We look up and extend our hands in a posture of thanksgiving as we receive this great gift. Our final response to God’s assurance of His peace and presence upon those who are in Christ is a chorus of joyful song. 4

DPC ANNOUNCEMENTS Iron Men moment:

DPC 101 If you're interested in exploring membership at DPC, please see Tommy.

“When [the gospel-centered man] reads the wonderful Old Testament promises of a restored Jerusalem, fabulous prosperity and great personal victory, he knows that they are promises to us that will only partially materialize in the present. He knows that they will only be fully available to us in eternity, when Christ returns to make everything new. The man of God can wait, with hope in his heart. And the man who is driven by this gospel can endure the disappointment of a painful illness or a frustrating sex-life or demotion at work. He will cope with bereavement, sickness or disaster, because he understands the timescale of God’s kingdom. I was once speaking at a men’s convention when a man came to share with me the pain of his marriage. He quietly explained that his believing wife suffered from terrible bi-polar disorder and during her manic phases would often become sexually promiscuous. As a Christian man he had resolved to endure the indignity of her famous exploits in the small town where he lived because he was looking forward to Christ’s return. He didn’t feel, as many unbelievers do, that since his time on earth is short, he should make the most of his short life and ditch the wife that brought him such pain. He explained that he was patiently waiting for eternity, when his sick wife would be healed and they would both be free to enjoy the paradise of the King. Only the gospel of the promised kingdom can empower that kind of patience and hope while enduring such pain.” ~ Richard Coekin

Adult Christian Education Classes 9:30AM “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction” A study of Eugene Peterson’s book looking at the Psalms of Ascent (Psalms 120-134). These are the particular songs that the Hebrew pilgrims would sing on their way up to worship in Jerusalem, and they have much to teach us about worship, service, joy, work, happiness, humility, community and blessing. Room 167a, (down the hall from the church office).

“The Righteous Shall Live By Faith” A study of R. C. Sproul’s book looking at the book of Romans. The book of Romans has been called “Paul’s fullest, grandest, most comprehensive statement of the gospel,” and it’s just as vital for the church today as on the day it was written. Room 158a, (right off the sanctuary).

Sedona Class for Young Adults The Young Adult Class is studying the book of John, using an excellent study guide (very understandable and applicable) by Frank Barker. The book of John was “written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31). Room 168a — the “waterfall room,” off the back hallway, which can be accessed from the hallway across from the church office.
