Hymn of Praise
Welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus! If you are a guest with us, please be sure to sign our Registry when it is passed during the service. Children are welcome in our worship. We have a nursery available for children 3 and under. Children 4 to 6 years of age may be dismissed to Godly Play prior to the sermon. Thank you for joining us today and may the Lord richly bless you.
Song of Assembly1 Your Love Is Better Than Life
O Lord, You are my Lord, Your ways are higher than mine. I’ve seen the broken restored; Your love is better than life. We thirst in a dry weary land, we hunger for Thee. Lord, rain down as we lift up our hands, your love is better than life. O God, I stand amazed, how high, how deep, how wide. My lips offer You praise, “Your love is better than life.”
O Lord, You are my Lord, Your ways are higher than mine. I’ve seen the broken restored; Your love is better than life, Your love is better than life. Lord, Your love is better than life.
Welcome and Preparation for Worship Worship springs from God alone. The worship of God is not something we can contrive; it is God’s gift to keep us from falling. To disparage or to ignore worship would be suicidal. People do not live without worship. They die. We sink below ourselves when we cease to worship One above ourselves Who alone is able to keep us from falling. And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” Revelation 4:9-11
Praise the LORD, all nations! Extol him, all peoples! For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!
Prayer of Adoration & Praise
All songs used by permission or covered under CCLI license # 391165. We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with his invitation and command to us to gather in His name. 2
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
Come, Thou fount of ev’ry blessing, tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above; Praise His name - I’m fixed upon it - name of God’s redeeming love. Hither to Thy love has blest me; Thou hast bro’t me to this place; And I know Thy hand will bring me safely home by Thy good grace. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, bought me with His precious blood. O to grace how great a debtor daily I’m constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wand’ring heart to Thee: Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; Here’s my heart, O take and seal it; seal it for Thy courts above.
Confession of Faith
I stand in the shade of Your wing, my soul clings to Thee. In the joy of the Lord, will I sing, “Your love is better than life. Lord, Your love is better than life.”

Corporate Confession of Sin
Leader: Do you believe in God the Father? ALL: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Leader: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? ALL: I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended to heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. Leader: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? ALL: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
The Gospel Is True
We have a hope that is living and love that never will end. We have a God who’s forgiven us while we were yet in sin.
Our Father in heaven, You are merciful to us, and have forgiven our sins. Your power has freed us from the kingdom of darkness. Instead of being slaves to sin, we gladly serve you as our King. But we still struggle with sin. We don’t reflect Your character in the world as we ought. Instead of desiring fellowship with You, our hearts have longed for the pleasures of this life. Rather than seeking Your favor, we have sought the approval of others. Rather than serving others, we have served ourselves. O Lord, we disobey Your Law every day. Cause us to hate the sins we commit against You and others. We know we cannot obey You on our own. We need Your help to live as we ought. Holy Spirit, continue Your work in us so that we might do Your will. Keep us from the way of sin and lead us in the paths of righteousness. For the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Assurance of Pardon in Christ
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ.
Worship with Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs Come Ye Sinners
Come ye needy, come and welcome; God’s free bounty glorify: True belief and true repentance, every grace that brings you nigh. Without money, without money come to Jesus Christ and buy. Come ye weary, heavy laden, bruised and broken by the fall. If you tarry till you’re better, you will never come at all. Not the righteous, not the righteous; sinners Jesus came to call.
We have a grace that’s amazing; a free gift to know Him by faith, To live for His praise and long for the day, when we see Him face to face.
Let not conscience make you linger, nor of fitness fondly dream. All the fitness He requireth is to feel your need of Him. This He gives you, this He gives you, ’tis the Spirit’s rising beam.
Thank you, Jesus, Oh how we worship You. Thank You, Jesus. Hallelujah, the gospel is true. Hallelujah, the gospel is true.
Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended; pleads the merit of His blood. Venture on Him; venture wholly, let no other trust intrude. None but Jesus, none but Jesus can do helpless sinners good.
We have been crucified with Him, buried and risen to life. Now justified, soon glorified, we shall be made like Christ.
Call to Confession of Sin
We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.
Come ye sinners, poor and wretched, weak and wounded, sick and sore. Jesus, ready, stands to save you, full of pity joined with power. He is able, He is able; He is willing; doubt no more.
I Give You My Heart This is my desire, to honor You; Lord, with all my heart, I worship You; All I have within me, I give You praise; All that I adore is in You. Lord, I give You my heart, I give You my soul, I live for You alone; Every breath that I take, every moment I’m awake, Lord, have Your way in me.
Rock of Ages
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, from Thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure, cleanse me from its guilt and power. Not the labors of my hands can fulfill Thy law’s demands; Could my zeal no respite know, could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.
I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer. I will sing of the Lamb that never fails. Of sins forgiven, of conscience cleared. Of death defeated and life without end.
Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Thy cross I cling; Naked, come to Thee for dress; helpless, look to Thee for grace; Foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.
Beautiful Savior, wonderful counselor, Clothed in majesty, Lord of history You’re the way, the truth, the life. Star of the morning, glorious in holiness, You’re the risen one, heaven’s champion And you reign, you reign over all.
While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyelids close in death; When I soar to worlds unknown, see Thee on Thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
Prayers of Thanksgiving & Petition
I long to be where the praise is never ending. Yearn to dwell where the glory never fades. With countless worshippers, will sing one song, And cries of worthy will honor the Lamb.

XLVI. Freedom from Want Matthew 14:13-21 The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper A Word About Communion - The bread and juice you see on the Communion table may not look like much to the casual observer. In fact, it is merely bread and juice. What makes this meal special is that the Lord Jesus Christ is spiritually present in a unique way. This sacrament is not something to be taken lightly but neither is it a time to be somber; rather, we should be filled with thankfulness and joy. Our Savior, out of His great mercy, bids His people to come to this meal. If you are a member of a church who embraces the Gospel of Jesus Christ and are at peace with your fellow Christians, we welcome you to this table. Come and consider with us our Lord’s body and shed blood symbolized in the bread and juice. Rejoice with us in our union with Him and with each other as His Covenant people.
All my days I will sing the song of gladness, Give my praise to the fountain of delights. For in my helplessness, you heard my cry, And waves of mercy poured down on my life.
Amos 9:6; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
May he who builds his lofty palace in the heavens And sets it foundation on the earth, Who calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out over the face of the land Grant you an awareness of His love that you may be Always joyful, praying continually, and giving thanks in all circumstances For this is the will of God for you.
My Faith Has Found a Resting Place
My faith has found a resting place from guilt my soul is freed I trust the Everliving One, His wounds for me shall plead. I need no other argument I need no other plea, It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.
Just as God called us into His presence at the beginning, so now He commands His blessing upon us as we depart. We look up and extend our hands in a posture of thanksgiving as we receive this great gift. Our final response to God’s assurance of His peace and presence upon those who are in Christ is a chorus of joyful song.
4, 5, & 6 year-old children may be dismissed before the sermon to Godly Play in room 173.
