1856, reverse type 2 (M003) very rare with just a handful known to exist, VG Greg McDonald suggests the type 2 reverse is possibly a reworked pattern die and states that just four examples of the type 2 reverse have been identified to date, occurring only on coins dated 1856. Three examples were offered in the Reserve Bank of Australia Gold Coin Auction (Downies November 2005) and we know of three others in private hands, placing this amongst the rarest issue of the series Est. $1,500
