Wreck of the Gilt Dragon, Philip IV cob Two Reales of Mexico, no visible date, Fine W.A.M. # 12941 On 28 April 1656 the Dutch ship ‘Vergulde Draeck’ (Gilt Dragon) struck a reef and sank off the coast of Western Australia near present day Geraldton with the loss of 118 lives. Rescue missions set out from Batavia but neither the wreck nor survivors could not be located and the task was abandoned. The remains of the ship were finally discovered in April 1963 Est. $150
