It is in part due to such radical deviations from standard Australian coin issues that make Aussie Show Product so highly sought after in both the short and long-term – a point clearly illustrated by the soaring market values of previous WMF Mint Sets. With the 2006 set valued at A$200, and the 2007 & 2008 sets worth around A$120 apiece, the incentive to secure this set at such a low price is very strong indeed.

DEATH OF THE SOVEREIGN All coins from the 1855-1931 Australian Sovereign Series are scarce to rare in highgrade. The Roaring 20s, however, stand alone as producing the rarest, most desirable sovereigns of the
series. Why is this so? With WWI having a huge impact on the global economy, the first few years after the conflict were extremely turbulent. Although remaining in place until the
1930s, the supremacy of the Gold Standard had been severely undermined by the war, with most countries switching to incontrovertible paper banknotes during this time. The use of sovereigns as
circulating currency ceased, and from this point, the coin was chiefly employed in international commercial transactions. The changed global economic circumstances, and the new role of the sovereign, encouraged extensive
The COMPLETE 1925 Gold An unprecedented opportunity, with Downies never previously in a position to offer this prestigious Australian coin collection, we are proud to present the COMPLETE 1925 Gold Sovereign Mintmark Set – in aUnc to Unc condition! Struck exactly 86 years ago at Australia’s three branches of Britain’s Royal Mint, domiciled in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, the Complete 1925 Gold Sovereign Mintmark Set comprises three coins – each highly sought after in its own right. The key to the set – the 1925P – is one of the most important dates of the entire 1899-1931 Perth Mint Series. Indeed, the 1925P is the 4th highest cataloguing Perth Mint Gold Sovereign date across all grades. The 1925M, which catalogues at A$550 in Unc, is rightly regarded as tough-to-find in the lustrous, superbly detailed condition seen here, whilst the 1925S, cataloguing at A$525 in Unc, is not only scarce in top grade, but historically fascinating. With the Mint closing down in 1926, and the 1926S, as noted above, one of Australia’s most significant rarities, the 1925S is the last date in the 1855-1926 Sydney Mint Sovereign Series that collectors can realistically expect to add to their collection.
In aUnc to Unc Quality!
Any one of these coins, individually, would make a compelling, prestigious addition to any gold coin collection. United as a complete set of three, and this is a set that any passionate Australian collector would be proud to call their own – especially given the quality of the coins presented here. Regardless of the grade, these exquisite 22-carat gold coins are missing from many collections – making this opportunity utterly irresistible. Virtually as good as the day they were struck, during the middle of the Roaring 20s, the 1925S, 1925M and 1925P are simply a must-have

conversion of coinage to bullion. Thus, despite the fact that many 1920s sovereigns have large official mintages, the infrequent appearance on the market and soaring values of many dates is indicative of the large numbers lost to the melting pot during the time of
of sovereign production. The recent increase in worldwide demand for George V Sovereigns has had a major impact on supply, with previously ‘hard-to-find’ dates now rare, and many truly rare sovereigns simply never seen. The Complete
George V. The 1920S, known by no more than five examples, catalogues at A$825,000 in Unc, with the 1921M (now A$45,000), 1923S (now A$33,000) and 1926S (less than ten known, valued at A$55,000) exemplifying the extraordinary rarity of this era
1925 Gold Sovereign Mintmark Set – never before offered by Downies – is an excellent case-inpoint, and represents a collector opportunity that must not be ignored.
Sovereign Mintmark Set…
The 1925P – the key date…
Of the three different mintmark Gold Sovereigns struck in 1925, there is no doubt that the Perth Mint issue is the rarest and most desirable – irrespective of the grade. Absent from many Australian coin collections, we are delighted to open an exclusive, limited window of opportunity for a handful of our clients to own this esteemed date in about Uncirculated condition!
COMPLETE 1925 GOLD SOVEREIGN MINTMARK SET aUnc-Unc AS195
Distinguished by the Perth Mint’s P mintmark, found below Benedetto Pistrucci’s inspired – and inspiring – St George & the Dragon design, the 1925P Gold Sovereign is defined by a tiny official mintage. Just 1.838m of these coins were struck! No one can be sure how many might have been shipped overseas to be melted down as bullion, but the infrequent appearances of this coin is stark testimony to the rarity of the date. Indeed, this is one of the few occasions, in our near 80-year history,
that Downies has been able to offer this key-date Australian sovereign individually – and the first time in such a stunning state of preservation! The few 1925P Sovereigns we have in stock are in outstanding about Uncirculated condition. Complete with a Certificate of Authenticity backing both the composition and the grade of this key date, each coin is beautifully presented in a luxurious timber case.
