Installation Pot Luck Banquet Saturday, January 22, at 6:00 pm. It is being held at Sacred Heart Church, 326 Main St, Yarmouth. There is a Mass at 4:30 pm, so the parking lot should empty out about 5:30. The hall is in the basement of the church. There will be signups for food to bring at Monday’s rehearsal, and we’ll need a head count so we know how many tables to set and how much paper goods to purchase. You don't have to wait for Monday, to sign up, you can email Diane Blanchard at diblanchard@maine.rr.com or call her at 775-3340. A couple of volunteers are needed at the hall on Friday, Jan 21 to help set up and move some tables around and move some of those portable partitions to one side etc. which usually only takes about an hour or two in the morning or afternoon. On Saturday, a couple of volunteers to help with putting dishes in the oven to keep warm and bringing them out to the buffet table when we're ready to serve. And of course, help is always needed cleaning up on Saturday night too. Please contact Diane if you are able to help.

Mike McBride (former Downeaster now living in Memphis) had bypass surgery last week. Report is very positive -- he came through it just fine. Submitted by: Wayne Newland

Treasurer Needed By Larry Bean

Downeasters, I am announcing my intention to retire as Treasurer at the close of this calendar year. I will not be submitting my name for the officer's slate for the 2012 calendar year. I believe it would be better for you as the new treasurer to have a thorough understanding of how things work before you are asked to assume the duties, rather than to be thrust into the role. If you step up to the plate now to be the new treasurer for next year, you will get a year's worth of training and will feel completely comfortable by the time it becomes officially yours. Your training will start by spending a day with me (soon) doing the 2010 calendar year taxes, which will give you a thorough understanding of the scope of the Downeasters income and expenditures and how to fill out the forms. It will continue by setting up an environment where you will be able to track all finances in Quicken for the remainder of the year, simply by mirroring what I do and asking clarifying questions when needed. At Clam Festival time you will meet with me and each of the officers to go through the fiscal year budget creation process, learn how to set up the new budget year in Quicken, and continue to mirror the inflows and outflows. By next January it should be second nature. I will do the 2011 taxes with you, and still be available as a resource when help or guidance is needed. Please do not hesitate, reply directly to me (lbean@rsu1.org) with your interest. Thank you!
