The American Red Cross will be here to teach kids in grades K-5 how to prepare for fires and extreme weather. Each child will receive a pillow case to decorate and use as an emergency kit.

Month of April April is National Poetry Month! Stop in and create your own poetry using pages of books designated to be recycled.

Money Smart Week April 23-27 The DDL will be hosting events throughout the week for kids and adults to learn how to get smart about your money. Dates/times TBD.

Scavenger Hunt Saturday, May 12 at 10 am Spring into Your Local Library! (Presented by Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Early Childhood Education and the Dowagiac District Library)

Kids, choose your favorite adult and team up for a scavenger hunt through downtown Dowagiac. Prizes at the end for all participants.

Teen Xbox Day

Tuesdays and Fridays 10:30 am

1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month 3-6 pm

Storytime at the Dowagiac District Library follows the ‘Every Child Ready to Read’ model, which encourages children to read, write, talk, sing and play. Each storytime features a new book, hands-on activity and light snack. Letters, numbers and colors “of the day” are often incorporated into the theme. Children of all abilities are welcome, and caregivers are invited to participate as well. Ages: Toddler to 5 years.

Come play together on our Xbox 360 in the Youth Services Dept. We have an assortment of games and four controllers, as well as board games & cards. Each Xbox round lasts 30 minutes so that everyone enjoys a turn. Ages 9-17.

Teen Trivia Night 2nd

Thursday of the month 4-5 pm

Let your inner nerd shine! Grab your friends and show off how smart you are. Categories will change weekly and might include sports, music, pop culture, history, book titles, holidays, poetry, fast food slogans, etc. Prizes for winners! Ages: 12-17

B-I-N-G-O! for Kids/Teens

Neshnabe Mboken First Wednesday of the month 4-5 pm, open to all ages Neshnabe Mboken is a children’s book club, which focuses on Native American books and authors.

4th Thursday of the month (begins in Oct.) 5-6 p.m. Let’s go retro and make BINGO cool again! If you have a lucky troll doll, be sure to bring it for luck! Prizes for the winners! A Makerspace craft is available every day in the youth department. Features a STEAM-related craft best for grades 5 and up.
