Friday 12th October 2018 For this project, I was asked to produce a Fashion Show Invitation for a fashion designer of my choice that was showcased at The London Fashion Week 2018 for SS19. To generate ideas for the Fashion Show invitation it was vital for me to thoroughly study my chosen designer’s collection theme to inspire me. Moreover, the project brief indicates that I must include collage paper techniques within my project. Therefore, after analysing The London Fashion Week website, I decided to choose Thornton Bregazzi as my designer, as I strongly believe that this designer successfully fits the project brief criteria. After much investigation, I found that the SS19 collection by Preen entails strong elements of nature; mainly focusing on flowers and branches. Additionally, I believe that the main outcome of the SS19 collection illustrates a strong sense of femininity and elegance. This was effective by using the theme of nature to advocate their women’s collection in the purest form that they can, as the theme of nature seamlessly represents purity. The aspects of this collection that intrigues me are the nature elements coupled with femininity because I find that it represents factors that I personally relate to for my own personal style. Furthermore, I am fascinated by the theme of nature as it is an extremely versatile subject due to the endless inspiration you can find in the characteristics of the theme such as shapes, colour and texture. Therefore, the inspiration for my invitation design stems from the theme of nature as it is heavily portrayed in the SS19 collection. Additionally, the colours mainly used in this collection are the typical and classic feminine colours such as cremes, whites and browns, all of which I have decided to incorporate as the primary colours in my Fashion Invitation project. This can be evident in the materials I used such as white and brown cardboard, white lace and crème roses. Looking in detail at the garments that Thornton Bregazzi created, they have included a pattern of flowers on branches which I have mimicked by using a branch of flowers as a frame around my invitation and mainly by writing all the details onto a piece of refined wood which will show the guests exactly what theme the Preen collection will entail. To further emphasize the take on femininity that the Preen collection includes, I decided to replicate the white lace I found in one of the garments by placing it all over the invitation. To highlight the idea of elegance I decided to include small diamond sequins across the invitation. Whilst on the topic of elegance, to create the paper collage trees, I actually used newspaper prints that were about the royal family as they hail powerful connotations of elegance since they are royalty. Additionally, I decided to generate trees out of the paper collage, again to further mimic the many branches I found in the pattern of the garments in the SS19 Preen collection. In conclusion, I believe that I have been successful in meeting the needs of this Fashion Show Invitation project. This is because I have thoroughly investigated all the elements and themes that I could find in the SS19 Preen Collection and have reflected that into my project by ensuring that I stuck to all the themes presented. The feedback I gained upon presenting my work to my class was that they all agreed that I had truly captured the themes that were showcased in the SS19 Preen Collection; including the colours and materials I incorporated into my invitation. However, to improve my Fashion Show Invitation, I was suggested to come up with an idea for the packaging that the invitation will come in as it would be not physically possible for it to go through a letterbox. Therefore, to improve work, I will create a box for the invitation to go in so it can be easily delivered to the guests invited.
