Drug-Free Workplace DCSD is committed to a safe, healthy and productive work environment for all employees that is free from the effects of substance abuse. Abuse of alcohol, drugs and controlled substances impairs employee judgment, resulting in increased safety risks, injuries and faulty decision making. This includes working after the apparent use of marijuana, regardless of marijuana’s legal status. DCSD prohibits the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession or use of a controlled substance during work hours, on DCSD premises or other DCSD sites. An employee, knowingly in the possession of or under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance, shall be suspended immediately by his/her supervisor if such use or possession is: • On DCSD property • At any school sponsored or sanctioned activity or event off of DCSD property • On the way to work Pursuant to law, any employee who is convicted, pleads nolo contendere or who receives a deferred sentence or deferred prosecution under any criminal drug statute for a violation occurring in the workplace must notify an HR Director within five days of such conviction, plea or deferred sentence/ prosecution DCSD offers employees an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which provides confidential access to services and resources to employees who want to seek out options for drug counseling or rehabilitation.
