Welcome Dear Friends and Patrons: Welcome to Ives Concert Park, celebrating 40 years of providing a unique entertainment destination where trees and stars offer an inspiring backdrop for cultural experiences. If it is your first visit, explore and enjoy. There are 40 acres of preserved land that include a lush oasis of natural beauty with hiking trails, a beautiful pond and magnificent gardens. As you enter the Concert Park, our awesome volunteer ambassadors and staff are here to help you navigate the park and to enjoy the Ives experience. Our goal is for you to have a memorable experience, enjoy the performance, feel at home and have fun. A bit of our history: In March 2007, after many years of community and corporate support, the Ives Center became an Authority of the City of Danbury. With the support of Mayor Mark Boughton and the City Common Council, the Ives Authority was created, and shortly thereafter, a partnership with Dr. James Schmotter and Western Connecticut State University was formed. The Authority and partnerships were vital in the continuation of providing cultural enrichment for the community. We operate with the help of our many volunteers, two volunteer Boards of Directors, and our wonderful staff. It is with their efforts, and those of our many great sponsors and partners, that we are able to bring affordable entertainment to you in this beautiful setting. We are always looking for more volunteers and those who see the benefits of investing in our non-profit. (info@ivesconcertpark.com is how to reach us). We thank Live Nation Entertainment, our 2014 promoter partner, for presenting the Summer Concert Series and our good friends at RKE for providing our light & sound production. Thank you to Wells Fargo Advisors, our generous major sponsors, as well as Newtown Savings Bank, title sponsor of our Fine Arts & Family Series. These are great family events to enjoy. Thank you as well to the City of Danbury and WCSU. To our Director of Operations, Bob Connor, our Office and Concessions Manager, Sophia Vournazos, our interns, event and site staff and our Ives Ambassadors, we thank you all for the time and effort you devote to the Ives. We hope that you will tell a friend about the Ives and come back often to join us during the season. We appreciate your support. The Ives thrives because of you. Phyllis Cortese Executive Director

Welcome

Dear Ives Concert Park friends and patrons: We at Western Connecticut State University are excited about the array of diverse entertainment and cultural events planned this summer at The Ives Concert Park on our Westside campus. As a partner with the City’s Charles Ives Authority for the Performing Arts, we take pride and delight in enhancing the Greater Danbury community’s quality of life in the weeks ahead. This year’s Ives program will present performances that will suit all musical tastes as well as special programs for particular audiences in the community. And, as audience members have known for more than three decades, there’s simply no more pleasant place to be than The Ives Concert Park on a warm New England summer evening. The Ives Concert Park is a wonderful example of a community partnership that benefits all. The partners in this endeavor are many, and are as diverse as our programming. I join Mayor Boughton in expressing my appreciation to all who volunteer their labors and financial support making the special experience at The Ives Concert Park possible each summer. See you at a future performance! Warmest regards,

James W. Schmotter President, WCSU

Peter Frampton JULY 5 / GaTeS aT 4 P.M. / SHoW aT 7:30 P.M. Following a massive year of touring, including 2013’s inaugural Frampton’s Guitar Circus, Peter Frampton is back on the road. This time Frampton will set out on a catch-all tour. For details, please visit www.frampton.com. Frampton has kept quite busy over the past year in addition to touring. He was recently inducted in the Musicians Hall of Fame, performed on-stage at the Grammy’s with Ringo Starr and also played an integral part in the 50th anniversary celebration of the Beatles’ arrival in the U.S. by performing on CBS’ “The Night That Changed America: A GRAMMY Salute to The Beatles.” Frampton also produced Humble Pie’s Rockin’ The Fillmore deluxe compilation with original member Jerry Shirley (available now via Omnivore Recordings). Moreover, he worked with the Cincinnati Ballet last spring providing and composing new music for their April production. Grammy winner Peter Frampton remains one of the most celebrated artists and guitarists in rock history. At 16, he was lead singer and guitarist for British band the Herd. At 18, he co-founded one of the first super groups, seminal rock act Humble Pie. His session work includes collaborations with such legendary artists as George Harrison, Harry Nilsson, David Bowie, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ringo Starr, John Entwistle and many others. His fifth solo album, the electrifying Frampton Comes Alive!, is one of the top-selling live records of all time. 22 140742_Ives Program Book 2014 v2.indd 22

The Moody Blues AUGUST 17 / GATES AT 5 P.M. / SHOW AT 7 P.M. The Moody Blues – Justin Hayward, John Lodge and Graeme Edge – will be continuing their “voyage” on THE VOYAGE CONTINUES: TIMELESS FLIGHT tour, with new U.S. dates announced for their upcoming summer 2014 schedule. The tour, which begins in Syracuse, New York, on Aug. 1, will continue through Sept. 4 & 5 with appearances at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, Illinois. The upcoming dates follow their recent sold-out U.S. tour in March, and their highly successful second band cruise in early April — The Moodies Cruise — which returned to the Isle of Wight with alums Roger Daltrey of The Who, Carl Palmer of ELP, Lighthouse and Shawn Phillips; The Zombies, The Orchestra starring ELO, Starship, Little River Band, and more. The summer tour will also tie in with the recent issue of their 17 and 4-CD box sets “Timeless Flight,” on Universal Music Enterprises. The band will be going on five decades strong as of May 5, 2014. Says The Dallas Morning News: “The band showed in its performance why it has endured almost half a century … the harmonies between John Lodge and the band front man Justin Hayward created soaring drama punctuated by the interplay between smoke and light ray.” Adds, The St. Louis Post Dispatch: “It all came down to the melodies, which ranged from gorgeously seductive to simply catchy and punchy … the Moodies depend on nostalgic memories of their fans’ youth, but they also know that in the present, these songs can still move the listener.” The Toronto Sun says: “One of the biggest strengths the band has is knowing what they do and doing it extremely well.”
