Message from Jim Schaus Director of Athletics

Why Give? The Ohio Bobcat Club is the official fundraising organization of Ohio Athletics, and its purpose is to provide the resources to our student-athletes, teams, and coaches so they can succeed athletically and academically.

The past 12 months have been some of the best in Ohio Athletics’ history. Our Men’s Basketball program made a run to the Sweet 16 and our Football team claimed the 2012 AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl trophy. Ohio also had its first individual NCAA Regional Champion in Women’s Cross Country, and Volleyball won the 2012 MAC regular season title. Over this same time period, Ohio Bobcat Club members have been stepping up as well. Those who contribute toward the Ohio Bobcat Club Annual Fund have helped the department in furthering its mission to successfully develop each student-athlete as a person, as a student, and as an athlete. Since 2006, we have seen membership and contributions grow to an all-time high in 2012-13. Your generous gifts are making a positive impact in the lives of each of the 420 studentathletes and for that I thank you! Even during this period of success for the Bobcats, your continued and increased support is needed now more than ever. Last year we were asked to generate $50,000 in new funding to compensate for a reduction in institutional aid for scholarships. We have been asked to do so again for 2013-14. To maintain our present level of departmental success we will need the help of our Ohio Bobcat Club members now and into the future. In order to continue to be academic and athletic leaders within the MAC, I have asked the Ohio Bobcat Club staff to find ways to encourage our members to increase their support. As a part of this, we are implementing a comprehensive change to our membership levels. These new changes are aimed at increasing the aid we provide to our student-athletes and providing a better donor experience in relation to their benefits. This has been a banner year for the Ohio Bobcats. I believe that overall we have taken a huge step forward in 2012-13 and a large part of that was because of the support of the Ohio Bobcat Club members. Success is a team effort. Thank you for making a difference as a valuable member of the Bobcat team. The best is yet to come.

Go Bobcats!

Where Does The Ohio Bobcat Club Rank in the MAC?

Benefits of Giving

Ohio Athletics ranks among the nation’s elite in football and men’s basketball with four straight years of postseason appearances. However, Ohio falls in the middle of the pack as compared to our MAC peers in number of athletic donors and number of annual fund dollars raised.

Ohio Bobcat Club benefits are available for donations made directly to the Ohio Bobcat Club Annual Fund. Donations made to specific sports or projects (for example: Football Next Level Project) generate priority points but do not qualify for benefts.

In recent years, Ohio Athletics has made historical strides on and off the playing field and has established itself amongst the nation’s premier programs. With this recent success has also come a rise in the costs associated with competing at a high level. The generosity of the Ohio Bobcat Club members has helped to offset those increases, yet Ohio Athletics lags behind many in our conference in terms of dollars raised towards its’ athletic programs.

Ohio Bobcat Club Impact Support from members of the Ohio Bobcat Club allows our student-athletes to have a one-of-a-kind experience and allow our coaches to help prepare them for life after graduation. Below you will find statements from current Bobcat coaches and student-athletes regarding the importance of Ohio Bobcat Club members’ support.

Jim Christian | Head Coach | Men’s Basketball

“In my first season at Ohio, the level of involvement and passion displayed by Ohio Bobcat Club members has been unbelievable. They play an important role in creating the great atmosphere that exists every night at the Convocation Center. I thank each of you for your support of Ohio Basketball and Ohio Athletics. We truly appreciate what you do. Go Bobcats!” Tyler Tettleton | Junior | Football

“The Ohio Bobcat Club and its members are a huge part of our success. Their support of Ohio Football and Ohio Athletics could not be more appreciated. I thank you, on behalf of my teammates, coaches, and our administrators. See you at Peden Stadium!”

Gifts of Stock or Bonds Gifts of appreciated stock, bonds, or mutual funds held for more than one year can provide special tax advantages. For more information or to fill out a notification form, please visit http://ohiou.giftlegacy.com, or call (740) 593-1176.

Juli Accurso | Junior | Track and Field/Cross Country

“When I chose to attend Ohio University, I did not know that choosing to become a Bobcat also included becoming part of the Bobcat family. Immediately, this family of fellow students, professors and alumni provided – and continues to provide – a surreal amount of support to me, to my team and to all Ohio athletes. Without the unceasing encouragement and cheers from the community, I would not be the runner and person I am today. And because of these incredible experiences within the Bobcat family, I am never more proud to wear OHIO across my chest, as I am able represent everything great about this university! I would like to say a sincere ‘thank you’ to Ohio Bobcat Club members and all who support Ohio Athletics!”
