Doris Todd Christian Academy Annual Giving 2015-2016

ANNUAL GIVING REPORT FROM THE PRINCIPAL & SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT
Dear DTCA Families, Friends, and Alumni: This is an exciting school year at Doris Todd Christian Academy, as we celebrate our 60th year! Last year God provided financially so that we could continue to offer a distinctively Christian education for our 187 students in the 2015-16 school year. Our Annual Fund Drive is our most important fundraiser of the school year. We rely on tuition income and fees to keep our doors open, but these sources are not enough. We also need generous donations from the DTCA community in Hawaii and on the mainland to continue offering an affordable Christian education on the island of Maui. Our goal is to reach $50,000 this year. Our status will be posted regularly on Facebook and our website (www.doristoddchristian.org). Donations go to general operation expenses, teacher and staff salaries, taking care of our campus, and other specific projects such as new student computers, more classroom iPads, and moving our high school to their own campus in Wailuku next year. Thanks to generous donors, we were able to install air-conditioning in our preschool this summer. Our preschoolers and teachers are enjoying cool and comfortable classrooms.
Please come alongside and help us continue our ministry of giving children a Christ-centered, loving, nurturing, and safe learning environment. All gifts large or small, are an investment in the future of our children, our community, our island and our world. Your contribution will make a difference in shaping a child’s life for eternity! Mahalo nui loa for your support,

PRESENCE OF GOD I
THE PRESENCE OF GOD IS HERE – ON THE CAMPUS, IN THE TEACHERS. THIS WORLD IS SO SCARY AND I WANT MY BOYS TO BE HERE. I WANT THE DAY TO DAY, NOT JUST SUNDAY. FOR A KID TO BE ABLE TO NOT HAVE HOMEWORK, SKIP A GRADE, EASIER RULES, AND STILL CHOOSE TO BE AT THIS SCHOOL INSTEAD, THAT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. IT’S THE POWER OF GOD.
he Roberson Ohana has been a part of our school for the past 6 years. This last fall they decided to try public school instead. Their boys had no homework, half days on Wednesdays, friends they had grown up with, and their youngest, Steve, was able to skip ahead a grade.
Other people asked, “Isn’t Sunday School enough?” Tiare says, “No, it’s not.” With tears in her eyes she said, “The presence of God is here – on the campus, in the teachers. This world is so scary and I want my boys to be here. I want the day to day, not just Sunday. For a kid to be able to not have homework, skip a grade, easier rules, and still choose to be at this school instead, that doesn’t make sense. It’s the power of God.” WE ARE NOT JUST A SCHOOL – WE ARE A MISSION – CALLED BY GOD, TO BE A LIGHT TO THIS ISLAND.

After the first day, Steve, came home saying he didn’t feel well. He didn’t want to go to school. He even cried and began trying to refuse going. He told his mom that he didn’t want to go to a school “where they don’t teach about the Bible”. This went on for weeks. Until one weekend the family was participating in a surf contest in Lahaina. During the contest a girl’s backpack was stolen. The Robersons were able to track down the backpack, but to do so, they had to search the surrounding streets. They ran into homelessness and horrific drug addiction in their search. After retuning to the contest that afternoon, Tiare Roberson, watched a family friend receive the news that her son had died. After witnessing extreme hopelessness, pain, and suffering in this life in a few short hours, she decided right then and there that her boys were coming back Doris Todd Christian Academy.

KIND CARING IN T E A C
I can think of no other job I would rather have than to share the hope I have in Jesus with my precious students and invest in their futures. I am so blessed to be a part of what God is doing at DTCA. CINDY URBACH 1ST GRADE
I have the best job in the world as each year I discover & learn to know the new little personalities in my class! It’s a joy to see students grow & mature as they learn who God is & how much He loves them! We are setting the foundation in their young lives, not only in strong academics, but the Truths of God that will set their paths straight. KAREN FONTANILLA 2ND GRADE
Teaching is so much more than “getting information” into our students! It’s about finding out HOW they learn and then helping them to LOVE learning. STEPHANIE ANDERSON 3RD GRADE

Early in the morning, we meet together before the students arrive with an eternal perspective in mind. We start out the day praying for our students & reading His Word together, knowing God has given us the opportunity and responsibility to mentor each student. May He use us to help them to better know, serve, love, and worship Him.
JIMMY FITT 4TH GRADE
As a teacher I get to invest in my students with an eternal investment. I get to teach them about Math and Reading, but I also get to teach them about how much Jesus loves them. I get to walk through life with my students, and each day I have the opportunity to live out my faith, which helps them grow in their faith. JAMIE PICKETT 5TH GRADE
Teaching has been such a privilege and pleasure. Watching students discover the wonder of God’s creation, challenging them to believe in their unique capabilities and encouraging them to embrace the purpose God has for their lives....Wow, what an incredible adventure, not only for them, but for me too! The FISHer’s Ohana got our 4th grade class and their parents an o-FISH-al oppor-TUNA-ty to visit Uncle Tracy Stice’s Tilapia pond at his farm in Maliko Bay. Each family brought their own worms and fishing poles and went fishing for as many fish as they could catch! Everyone had a REEL-y good time!

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 Certainly the Lord has shown His faithfulness in the development and establishment of Maui Christian Academy. We are in our third year, and new students, new staff, and new challenges are showing us His mercies! We ended the last academic year with our first graduation of three students. We began this year with the addition of four new students. We added Terri Hallsten to our staff to teach the language arts classes, and Gary Fitt helps with her 6th grade science and math. We are working hard on accreditation through ACSI/WASC and expect to be granted formal accreditation this spring. We are challenged with a need to expand and move our high school to central Maui. Please keep us in your prayers concerning these things, and join us as we thank Him for His steadfast love!

After opening a high school in 1976, Doris Todd Memorial Christian School graduated its first class of five seniors in 1980. The high school grades were closed at the end of the 1987-88 year due to declining enrollment and difficulty with staffing. This May of 2016, Maui Christian Academy graduated its first three seniors after reopening high school classes in 2014. We praise God for his current provision, and for the plans He has for future growth!

$22,469.38 One of our precious preschool students said she wanted to share her blessing from Jesus by donating money out of her piggy bank to Fun Run. She donated $10. When a former parent, Barbara Raney, saw our post on Facebook thanking God for childlike faith, she sent a note and $100 on her behalf. Another student was trying to win the grand prize iPad by bringing in donations, but she decided to give some of her donations to her friend so that she could go to Maui Golf & Sports Park too. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for working in the hearts of our children!
