axonometric plan This studio project focused on water as a material agent of environmental and social change - that is, how water actively participates in restructuring and redesigning the environments we inhabit with other species and materials. We were to choose one out of the two sites to redesign, and allow water to be the co-designer of the new landscape that we represented. 4

The project’s focus is to create a relationship between people and the Scioto River. Currently, water recreation below Griggs Dam and Reservoir is limited to fishing. Our concept aims to bring water from the reservoir to the hillside, where people can swim, wade, ice skate, and interact intimately with the natural cleaning processes provided by vegetation and indigenous animal species. 5

diagram: water filtration process Water performs a dynamic role in this project. Gravity-fed pumps transport water from above the dam to a holding tank which in turn distributes its flow to the two filtration areas. The plants in the filtration areas (weirs) naturally clean the water for pool use. Lastly, the water from the pools escape down the outflow filtration area, where water, once cleansed by the filtration plants, may be added back into river in an attempt to provide a healthier habitat for fish and organisms that dwell in the Scioto River. 10

N franklinton site plan scale | 1:100 With the recent destruction of the apartment complex near the river’s edge, and the decay of the old northern factories and old car companies, the class was asked to rethink and redesign the areas so they may be utilized by the surrounding community and the significant number of artists that dwell in the area. The southern half of the site was to be designed as a renewed community, while the northern half, an arts campus. 12

systems diagrams The city fabric of the arts campus and the residential area will be woven together. The buildings, positioned on the outer edges of the site, will provide thresholds into the site to attract people into the centralized, communal programs, each distinguished by its own elevated platform (upper and lower), as well as connect both campuses through these openings. This will altogether enable integration throughout the entire area, encouraging communal unity. The arts campus opens to the existing art building, while the residential campus opens to the levy, creating a focus on acknowledging the site’s past. The goal is to integrate, fuse, and mix the idea of urban and natural features, spaces and elements. 13

N N amenity site plan scale | 1:20 DPR Associates planned the amenity area for a 400+ lot subdivision in Concord. The amenity includes a pool pavilion with bathrooms; a swimming pool catering both to adults and children; a cabana for gatherings; and an event lawn.

The subdivision is adjacent to an existing subdivision, Blume South, and is one of the 3 subdivisions being designed in the overall masterplan. DPR has proposed a pocket park, a public open space, and a greenway (on the other side of the creek) for residents to enjoy. The greenway is located along the sewer easement and connects all phases of the subdivision in it’s entirety. While the southern half of the site is being built upon, the other half north of the creek will remain mostly untouched and undisturbed.
