e invite you to come celebrate Door County’s beautiful open spaces! You’ll find, on the pages of this booklet, many ways to connect with and explore the lands you love. In an effort to be more eco-friendly, this year’s booklet saves paper and ink. The full descriptions and more details are found on our website. You can now browse events on mobile devices as well!

The Explore the Door series offers guided adventures for you to experience the beautiful places you’ve helped the Land Trust protect. Outings are led by trained volunteer hike leaders and/or Land Trust staff. All Explore the Door outings are free of charge and will be held rain or shine. Some hikes are open to the community, others are for members only, with registration required. If you are not already a member, we encourage you to join. To stay informed of upcoming hikes, subscribe to our email newsletter by clicking the link on our website.

Dining for Open Spaces events are hosted by Land Trust supporters to benefit the Door County Land Trust. Hosts welcome you into their homes or out on the land for brunches, lunches, cocktail parties, and dinners. Most Dining events include a visit to one of Door County’s beautiful open spaces. All proceeds from Dining for Open Spaces events benefit land preservation. See “How to Register” on page 4.

We are pleased to announce that we will once again offer an online event registration system for Celebrating Open Spaces events.

Online registration will open on Wednesday, June 14, 9:00 am.

Events will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Register online by visiting and clicking on “Upcoming Events” on our home page. From there, you will be able to view and select which events you would like to attend and reserve space for yourself and/or your guests.

Choose your events: To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to attend an event of their choice, we ask that you register for your top two event choices, complete your checkout, and then register for additional events. Your online shopping cart will temporarily place a hold on your chosen items for 15 minutes. A countdown timer will notify you how many minutes remain before items will be removed from your cart.

Payment options: You will be given an option at checkout to pay with a credit card online or mail a check to our office. If space is available, registration for events will continue up to the date of the event. Throughout the summer you can visit our website to find out which events have available spaces.

Confirmation: You will receive a confirmation number

immediately if your registration is successful. An email will be sent to the address provided. You will receive another email closer to the date of the event which will contain more details and directions to the event.

Phone registration option: For those who do not have internet access or may not be comfortable using the online registration system, we will have volunteers stationed at our office on June 14th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to take your registration over the phone. Call our office at (920) 746-1359 and we will be happy to assist you. Please note: Some Celebrating Open Spaces events

are open to the public; others are for members only. If you are not a member, we hope you’ll consider joining. To become a Door County Land Trust member, visit Door County Land Trust is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. A portion of your ticket may be considered tax-deductible and will be noted on your confirmation email. Please print your confirmation email as verification.

Heavy hors d’oeuvres and sandwiches will accompany the wines. A walk through the woods to learn more about the Callsens’ effort to preserve the local plant community will be led by Land Program Director Terrie Cooper. Hosted at the Callsen home in Ellison Bay, by Dave and Vonnie Callsen and Kaaren and Steve Northrop, with co-hosts Cathy and Tony Fiorato, Jane Hamann, Judy Perkins and David Keen, Sue and Tim Stone, Mary and Roy Thilly, and Kathy and Bill Wolff

As the clock strikes six o’clock in Door County, it strikes midnight in Paris! Celebrate Bastille Day with an evening of hors d’oeuvres, dinner and wines reminiscent of wonderful evenings in Paris. A welcome toast and update on the latest Land Trust news by Executive Director, Tom Clay, will begin the evening. Hosted by George and Sally Wiley at their home on Glidden Drive, with co-hosts Barb and Fred Frey

Dinner & Concert with Julian Hagen and Friends Thursday, July 20 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$125 per person • 80 guests 5:00 pm social; 6:00 pm dinner; 7:00 pm concert Begin a stirring evening with sangria and fine wines, followed by gazpacho and Spanish paella. Singer songwriter Julian Hagen joins us from Washington Island with original music that celebrates the land and life of Door County. Hosted at Woodwalk Gallery, by hosts Donna and Tony DeNardo, Barbara Morgan and Deanna D’Abbraccio, Barb and Jeff Ottum, and Jillaine Burton Seefeldt and Andrew Seefeldt. Sponsored in part by Woodwalk Gallery and McEvoy’s Culinaria.

$95 per person • 14 guests 5:30 hors d’oeuvres, followed by soup, salad, dinner and dessert Join us as we begin our tour in Italy for hors d’oeuvres. Our soup course will take us to Spain and from there we fly to South America for a colorful, refreshing salad. Cuba is now open to American travelers, so our main entrée features a traditional Cuban dish. Our tour ends back in Europe for a classic French dessert and café. As the sun sets over the harbor in Ephraim, we’ll start our Sicilian evening with a cocktail and Italian charcuterie while we all get acquainted. Then we move into the dining room to enjoy this five course Sicilian feast with wine pairings. Bistecca di Filetto (herb marinated tenderloin of beef) will be served as the main course...and more details from the gourmet menu may be found online. 5:30 pm wine and appetizers, followed by dinner at Hidden Acres Farm Hidden Acres Farm and its neighbors collaborate to offer you an open-air dinner featuring the bounty of their community garden. Ingredients fresh from the farm are featured throughout this dinner. The charming garden and barns offer the ideal setting for dinner to be served outdoors, weather permitting, or in the restored 1915 barn.

The morning begins with coffee, pastries and a mimosa toast, followed by a walk through trails on the property, weather permitting. Learn about the geothermal heating and passive solar systems that provide an earth-friendly alternative to traditional home systems. A special brunch made by the Jacksonport Town Hall Bakery will feature quiche, fresh fruit and more. Hosted by Marji and Dan Andrae at their home in the heart of central Door County, with co-hosts Kathy and Dan Hubing and Barbara Morgan and Deanna D’Abbraccio

A Dialogue on his View of the Natural World and Land Stewardship

Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve and Woodwalk Gallery, 6749 & 6746 County Road G Thursday, Aug. 17 @ 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm $25 per person • Open to the public • 24 Hikers Nearly seventy years after his death—and eighty years after he founded The Clearing Folk School—Jens Jensen is regarded as one of the premier landscape architects in America. Jensen’s philosophy that the environment profoundly effects people was groundbreaking in the mid1900s, but influences landscape design to this day. Join us for a journey into Jens Jensen’s writings, philosophy, observations, passion for nature and our land stewardship, as Roger Kuhns, geologist, writer and actor interprets Jensen’s philosophy in this original stage show. Register on the Land Trust website for the hike and show. Guests attending only the monologue should call Woodwalk Gallery (920) 629-4877 to reserve seats and pay $20 per person at the door.

A Celebration of Land Protection

Grand View Scenic Overlook and Park 11871 Highway 42, Ellison Bay Sunday, Aug. 20 @ 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm $45 per adult • Open to everyone • Welcome community, friends and members! Each year, the community of Land Trust supporters gathers together to celebrate the successes of the previous year and look to the opportunities and challenges ahead. Entertainment includes bluegrass music by the four-piece ensemble Highland Road, as well as property walks and plein air artists painting on location. Wine, beer, and other beverages will accompany a buffet of heavy hors d’oeuvres and salads by Alexander’s of Door County. A dessert buffet by Land Trust members ends this sweet evening. Details about the artists and how to purchase artwork from this night may be found on the event webpage.

An Event to Welcome New Members

Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve and Woodwalk Gallery, 6749 & 6746 County Road G Sunday, Oct. 1 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm $10 per adult • New members • Limit 120 guests If you’ve joined the Door County Land Trust in the past few years (or have been waiting to learn more), we welcome you to the land protection community. Join us for this fun afternoon to gain an insider’s glimpse into the workings of the Land Trust. Meet our new Executive Director Tom Clay, members of the Board of Directors and staff, and volunteers from several different areas of the organization. Then, let’s hike! We’ll split into small groups and hike the trails at the Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve. Along the way you’ll learn more about Door County’s unique geology and the astounding nature that thrives here. At the end of this afternoon, you’ll know quite a bit about what makes Door County so special and how your membership contributions are put to good use protecting the lands you love. Light refreshments and sweets will be served.
