DID YOU KNOW? We offer Rough Cut Veneer species, perfect for that rough-sawn look. Logs are sliced with a sizable serrated knife producing a fascinating and touchable appearance. Dyes and stains will perform differently on Rough Cut Veneers because of the fluctuating surface. This creates a medley of visually interesting outcomes. Let’s quote your next project.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW We can’t stress enough that you WILL find open holes in Rustic Knotty White Oak, leaving spots where the back of the panel will be visible and possibly need to be filled. However, this type of rustic look is the best representation of true Rustic Knotty White Oak.

RUSTIC VENEERS We’ve been offering rustic woods for quite some time now, but there’s always a little subjectivity when it comes to deciding what TYPE of rustic wood is right for your project.

RANDOM RIFT WHITE OAK Random is the least rustic of our options. It combines different, cleaner looks of quartered material and puts them together; great for a random, plank effect.

DID YOU KNOW? We offer Fumed Veneer species. If you’re designing an interior that calls for warmth, rustic, or majestic, talk to us. We can send images or samples of our current inventory. Let’s quote your next project.

FUMED VENEERS Fumed Veneers provide a rich elegant look that can often be an alternative to traditional dark woods. Unlike staining, fuming penetrates the veneer using a vacuum chamber process with the introduction of ammonia, resulting in deep, permanent color that can vary by species and accentuate patterns and character. Almost any wood with tannins can be fumed and Dooge Veneers inventories a wide selection of high quality fumed veneers. Most of this inventory is available in FSC-certified materials.

ASPEN Considered among the best veneers in the poplar family, Aspen ranges in color from almost pure white to light straw to warm tan. Favored logs produce a lovely, bright veneer with a beautiful, natural sheen. Aspen is often fumed to a rich, dark brown for use in modern environments. It mixes beautifully with stone and other materials in natural surroundings.

ETIMOE

Qtd Fig Fumed Etimoe

Qtd Plain Fumed Etimoe

While most Etimoe trees are tapped for rubber, untapped trees are often sliced to produce this rare and striking veneer. The light red-brown to grey-brown wood has a straight grain, often with striking black-red veins or stripes, and a fine, even, lustrous texture. When fumed, Etimoe becomes a darker brown that still allows the figure to come through. Etimoe is available in large sizes and in a variety of figures, most commonly curly and fiddleback.

EVENE Evene is very limited in its supply from the DR Congo, but the wood that ultimately made it to market displays a pale brown to yellowishbrown or pinkish-brown with straight to interlocking grain. After fuming, the striping is illustrious and bold.

Qtd Plain Eucalyptus

FC Plain Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is a lively veneer found in Australia and more recently sourced in Spain and Portugal. It is prized for the exotic, shimmering ripple effect in its grain. It’s available in a wide range of colors in its natural state — as well as a rich chocolate-brown when fumed.

RED GUM This domestic tree, common to the southern US states, is highly prized for its beautiful, erratic grain, fine texture, contrasty colors, and beautiful, silky luster. Figured or plain, Red Gum can be fumed, which adds to the visual interest of the species. This process adds darker tones to the already varied colors in the log. Large logs create excellent opportunities to use this beautiful domestic in large-scale projects.

Fig Fumed Gum-Red

LARCH Larch is an exceptionally straightgrained veneer with a reddish-brown heartwood and thin, yellow-white sapwood. This tall, straight tree grows to exceptional heights, producing long lengths of clear veneer, primarily from the heartwood of the tree. Fumed, the typically medium colored wood turns a rich, dark, chocolate brown color.

OAK EURO Oak is one of the most common trees in European forests. Like most Oaks, the grain is straight with broad rays that produce a lively flake effect in flat or quarter cut wood and straight combed grain in rift cut. Fumed veneer produces a rich chocolate-brown color.

OAK RED

Rift Fumed Red Oak

North American Oak is well suited for rustic or modern interiors. While different growing conditions can produce a range of colors, in general, it’s slightly redder, more uniform in color, and has a less prominent flake than White Oak. When fumed, Red Oak has a medium-brown color that stays fairly uniform. The grain is firm and straight, somewhat coarse with large pores. Rift cut veneer produces a very straight, combed grain effect.

SAPELE Sapele varies in color from log to log, but is generally medium to dark redbrown. Fumed Sapele turns this stripy wood a deep brown, yet retains the grain and figure nicely. This veneer has a fine grain, a distinct and desirable stripe formation, and often carries a lively figure. The highly prized Pommele Sapele is intensely marked with a swirly grain and randomly interspersed blisters, or pommele markings.

DID YOU KNOW? Dooge Veneers is the exclusive US distributor for new FSC-Certified CoCo Veneers. We inventory a wide selection of FSC European Oak. If your project calls for a unique yet consistent look, talk to us. We’ll send images or samples of our current inventory.

CoCo VENEERS Constant Color (CoCo) is processed using water pressure and heat to mimic natural aging, resulting in consistency and tones that echo the look and feel of aged bog oak. The CoCo process accelerates the veneer’s natural change of color and imbues tones deeply into the wood. Several light, medium and dark shades of brown and grey are produced, creating veneer that’s environmentally friendly, available in high volume with colors that are consistent from flitch to flitch, project to project, time after time. CoCo veneers are an excellent choice for creating seamlessly matched installations on large-scale or in phased development projects.

DID YOU KNOW? We offer Reconstituted Veneer species. You depend on Dooge Veneer to provide you with outstanding veneer but we can also provide you with an alternative option. With the ever-changing market and trends in design, we understand veneer might not always be best for your application. Let’s quote your next project.

RECONSTITUTED VENEER SPECIES Reconstituted Veneer is rotary cut veneers from fast-growing secondary species, then dyed, layered, laminated, and laid up with grain that replicates a natural species. It offers outstanding consistency in color and grain, making it an ideal choice for large-scale architectural projects. Because it’s man-made, flitches are available in standard sizes that simplify planning and maximize yield.

DID YOU KNOW? We offer Vintage Veneer species. If your design calls for a rustic vintage look, talk with us. We can send images, or samples of our current inventory. Let’s quote your next project.

VINTAGE VENEERS Vintage Veneer is sliced from hand-hewn beams reclaimed from old farmhouses, barns, or commercial buildings. Preserving the natural character of the wood, the beams are washed, de-nailed, dimensionally sorted, and then sliced into veneer. This veneer is generally with knotty characteristics that include splits, checks, nail holes, and occasional discolorations that reflect its history and give the wood a rustic feel. This veneer is sliced at 1.4 mm and intended for use in random sequences.

DID YOU KNOW? We offer Burl & Crotch Veneer species. If you’re designing an interior that calls for spectacular patterns, talk to us. We can send images or samples of our current inventory. Let’s quote your next project.

BURL & CROTCH VENEERS Burl Figure appears as a close pattern of many small “eyes” surrounded by wildly distorted grain. It’s the result of a wart-like growth or from the root ball beneath the trunk on Walnut, Maple, Mappa, or Redwood trees, which are rotary cut to produce veneer. Burl leaves are generally smaller than other veneers. Crotch Figure is cut from the juncture of a tree’s trunk and main branches. It comes in a range of appearance, including flame, plume, rooster tail, feather, or burning bush. Leaves are generally smaller. This figure is most common in Walnut and Mahogany.

AMBOYNA BURL

Amboyna Burl

OLIVE ASH BURL

Olive Ash Burl

WHITE ASH BURL

White Ash Burl

Amboyna Burl is among the world’s rarest and most expensive veneers—holding the distinction of being the original wood used on Rolls Royce dashboards. Leaves are small in dimension due to the small size of the burl. Deep yelloworange to red, Amboyna Burl has an unsurpassed depth and beauty prized in high quality architectural woodwork and cabinetry.

Olive Ash is not a specie in itself, rather it’s the name given to veneer cut from the dark heartwood of one of several European Ashes. Colors range from white to yellow to brown in varied combinations. Olive Ash Burl veneer is highly prized for its turbulent markings and striking color contrasts.

Among the palest colored veneers, Ash has a lustrous surface, beautiful grain, and subtle contrast between its light tan heartwood and creamy sapwood. It produces a wide range of beautiful, shimmering figures and delicate burls.

KORELIAN BIRCH BURL

MADRONA BURL

MAPLE BURL

Korelian Birch Burl

Madrona Burl

This veneer is cut from burled growths found on birch trees in forests in Finland and Russia—the result of local genetics or the soil conditions in that location. The veneer produced is uncommonly beautiful—an atypical burl pattern interspersed with pitch flecks, a swirling figure, and small, dark “eye” markings that create a teardrop effect. Veneer is rotary cut due to the small diameter of the burl.

Very little veneer is produced from the trunk, but large growths at the base of the Madrona produce this remarkable burl veneer. In what some believe looks like an overhead view of a hilly landscape intertwined with waterways of swirly grain, this warm, inviting, and choice veneer is highly sought after for high-end architectural installations and custom millwork.

Maple Burl From the same tree that produces maple syrup comes this beautiful veneer that ranges in color from snow white to warm yellow. It has a close, fine luminous texture and a lovely straight grain that may be interspersed with natural character marks. A wide range of gorgeous figures and wild grain distortions—from curly to bird’s eye to Maple Burl—are sought after for distinctive paneling and furniture.

MAPPA BURL

REDWOOD BURL

Redwood Burl

THUYA BURL

Thuya Burl

Mappa Burl is actually the burl wood of a European Poplar. This highly decorative veneer is particularly contrasty—its light brown heartwood is peppered by an unusual darker, bark-like pattern of tight clusters. This burl is stunning—an extraordinary and unexpected choice for furniture, cabinetry, and architectural applications.

Among the largest and tallest trees on earth, the Redwood produces a rich, warm, inviting veneer. Uniformly deep reddish-brown, this burled veneer (also known as Vavona Burl) is sliced from huge, prolific burl growths, producing some of the largest and most uniform burled veneer in the world.

Thuya Burl is one of the darkest, and most exotically beautiful burls in the world. Workers dig beneath the ground to harvest the tree’s root burls, which are rotary sliced for veneer. The aromatic wood varies in color from light tan to deep, rich chocolate brown. The eyes of the figure are typically small and thickly scattered, creating a concentrated burl figure highly sought after for marquetry, custom furniture, and highend architectural use.

WALNUT BURL

CEREJIERA CROTCH

AFRICAN MAHOGANY CROTCH

Walnut Burl

Cerejiera Crotch

African Mahogany Crotch

Walnut Burl is among the most popular veneers in the world market. A favorite for high quality architectural woodwork, this veneer has a smooth, even texture and thin, dark, grain markings over a light to dark brown background. The Walnut Burl has deep rich coloring and remarkable patterns.

Cerejiera is a South American wood particularly prized in crotch veneer—a figure that develops when two branches or trunks are knit together as they grow (sometimes called a plume or feather pattern). The pyramid-like pattern is lively, rich in contrast, and fascinating to behold. This rare veneer is sought after for high-end furniture and as a featured accent in architectural interiors.

Mahogany Crotch is equally appropriate in contemporary and traditional settings. African Mahogany is typically red to red-brown, and darker than South American Mahoganies. Crotch veneers with vivid, flame-like patterns are one of nature’s most beautiful works of art.
