Balancing Your Homework and Your Children’s Homework Trying to do your homework when your children are also doing their homework can be frustrating. Family homework time can be difficult because you may find that you are consistently interrupted by your children with the questions that they have. It is important that you are there for your children and that you are able to help them through any homework assignment that they are given. As you are getting used to doing homework while your children are doing homework, you should be sure that you have a system in place.
Getting homework done on campus Depending on your major, you may be able to focus on doing all of your homework while you are on campus. If you are studying computer programming, for example, you may be able to work in a lab on campus to ensure that you are not disturbed while doing homework. Schedule your classes so you have time after your classes to do your homework. You may also want to come in early and do your homework before your classes if you find that this schedule works better with your family’s schedule. While you are doing your computer programming homework on campus, you may find that you have more access to tools to help you with your homework. If you are working in a lab, you may be able to work during your teacher’s assistant’s hours to ensure you can get the help you need. Even if you are not studying a computer science, you may be able to find a place on campus that will be conducive to studying and getting everything done that you know you need to get done. Make sure that you do all that you can while you are campus.
Working with your kids If you cannot find time to do your homework on campus, try to schedule a time for questions with your kids. This way, your kids can work through their homework
and ask you questions when they know that it is a good time for you. Working with your kids to make sure that they understand how to manage their time is a great way to ensure that your homework also gets done. During your question time, make sure that you dedicate yourself wholly to the questions that your children have. While you are finding balance between your homework and your children’s homework, try not to get discouraged. It can be difficult at times, but you want to make sure that you stay positive and work hard to ensure you are fulfilling your own needs and your children’s needs. If you find that you just do not have time to help your children as much as they need, it may be beneficial to hire a tutor for your children. This way, you can be sure that their education is not suffering as a result of you being back in school. Finding and hiring a tutor to stop by after school for a few hours may be exactly what your children need.
