Positive feedback People can deal with the fact that their work is unsatisfactory. What they can’t deal with is a feeling that their boss couldn’t care less that they were there. The feeling actually has demotivating effects. An employee that knows their boss isn’t happy will work hard to make their boss happy. An employee that doesn’t know what their boss thinks will lack motivation to do anything. Feedback is extremely important for your helpers. It doesn’t matter if they are employees, volunteers, family, or friends, tell them what they are doing right or wrong. Whether their job is to organize the seating of a thousand people or simply retrieve the coats of guests at home, feedback is a wonderful motivator to spur your helpers on to success. Feedback can come in a number of forms. You can deliver a handwritten note. Writing a simple, personalized note of gratitude for a specific task can go a long way to encourage one to keep going strong. Be specific Those notes of specific appreciation and attention have convinced employees to stay on-board when they were secretly contemplating leaving the company. The reason this is so effective is that every employee wants to work somewhere they feel appreciated and valued. Another way to give feedback to your employees is to tell them in person. Walk over to them to give a compliment and no other purpose. Keep it direct and simple.
