SAIL AWAY WHITE ISLAND CLASSICS

Following the success of its opening year in 2017, White Island Classics (WIC) returns bigger and better in 2018, sponsored by Domus Nova Ibiza and Lift Foils. We are excited to be standing alongside the local community in support of this action-packed maritime event. Hosted at Marina Botofoch from 26 to 29 April, WIC brings some of the world’s most beautiful yachts to the waters of Ibiza and Formentera for a characteristically relaxed regatta, honouring the values at the heart of classic sailing with friends and family. Firmly on Ibiza’s social calendar, the four-day event marks the start of the season – a perfect way to transition from the quieter months into the whirlwind of summer. As its name would suggest, WIC is a race for the classics. It’s a chance to see antique craftsmanship in action; a fleet of heritage vessels fully at work, just as they would have been 40, 50, even 80 years ago. Back for a second year, the 1938 William Fife sloop, Madrigal, will take to the seas for another cruise and a chance to snag the win. For non-competitors who want to get really close to the action, taste the salt and feel the wind through their hair, WIC’s beautiful 19-metre cutter, Kahurangi, is available to charter so you can be out at sea alongside the

competing yachts. Launched in New Zealand in 1952, Kahurangi is a hands-on sailing boat that will allow you to experience traditional sailing, under the guidance of an experienced crew. The event truly embodies the spirit of the island, offering something for everyone, both on and off the water. For crew members, race days are peppered with a series of crew breakfasts, lunches, and happy hours. On the Friday, Regatta Village opens up at Marina Botofoch for sailors and landlubbers alike to get a piece of the action. The Domus Nova Ibiza tent has a fully-stocked bar and there is also a kids’ crèche and a café garden with live music to keep the vibe rocking until late. On Saturday, spectators can charter a boat and join in on the big picnic lunch on Es Palmador in the midst of an epic day of sailing. The final ‘Classics Day’ on Sunday, is open to the public, with stunning vintage cars on display from Ibiza Car Club and an exhibition of traditional crafts and local produce as well as food from Ibiza Food Studio’s Boris Buono. In the spirit of celebration and revelry, following the prize giving ceremony, Domus Nova Ibiza will host a closing party in the main tent, making a real splash in true Ibiza fashion! whiteislandclassics.com
