KARI NAUTIQUE PHOTOGRAPHY BY: RON SMITH

What is your name, where are you located? What is your nationality? My name is Kari Nautique, I'm in Miami, and I'm American but mostly of English decent.

If you were not a model, what other profession would you have been doing instead? I love Modeling, but it's not my every day career. I also do real estate.

What made you first become a model? I always wanted to be a model, I used to post magazine centerfolds all over my walls when I was a kid because I wanted to be them.

What are guilty pleasures food wise? It is so hard for me to turn down a good pizza! That's my weakness!

How did you feel when you did your first ever fashion show or photo shoot? I was so nervous at my first photo shoot! I couldn't stop giggling, but it turned out great for the photos since it was a catalog shoot. Who was your role model as a child and how did that help in being a model? My Nana has always been my role model. She is the strongest woman I know, and I have always looked up to her for advice and guidance. What did your parent first think of you being a model and where they supportive? At first, my family was not very supportive. I left Florida and moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream as a playboy bunny. They came around after a while though, they realized I was serious and really enjoy doing it. How do you feel about the controversy of the size 0 debate in the industry? Look, some women just are a size 0. They don't have to try for it. And some women are a size 14, and they look beautiful too. Can you imagine how many companies would go out of business if women were just truly happy with how they looked? I wish women would quit worrying about what everyone else looks like and just enjoy life.

How do you cope under the pressures of being a model? I don't think there's any pressure at all, I started modeling as a hobby and if it ever stresses me out or causes any negative energy in my life, I take a break from it. This is my happy place, I try not to let it consume me in a negative way. What beauty tips do you swear by? Showering every day is a good start. If a young girl/boy wanted to be a model what would your advice for them be? Go for it! If you don't love it, you'll always find something else. When it comes to men what gets your attention? Confidence, and thoughtfulness. Best pick up line you ever got? What was the worst? I have been a bartender for as long as I've been modeling, so I can't even start to put the best and worst pick up lines. It's just so many! What are some things or places on your bucket list? I've traveled a lot, but I've always wanted to go to New Zealand and see the locations where they filmed the Lord of the rings. Name three things you use every day? My cell phone, my car, and my wine glass.

splashmag.us / fall 2017 / 13

Craziest thing you have ever done? Tell us a story During one photo shoot in Mexico, I was on top of a waterfall completely nude. It was a really beautiful forest and I thought it was pretty remote, but apparently not! I almost slipped and fell down the waterfall, and when the photographer and the crew came over to help me, so did about six locals who had been watching from the trees. Yikes! What charities do you support or want to? I'm a big advocate for local animal shelter's. I don't like to donate two large charities because I can never be sure that the money goes where they say it will, but when I donate supplies or money to local nonprofits I can actually see it make a difference. Where do you want to be in 5 years? What about in 10? I'd like my swimwear company and my real estate company to both be successful, and I would like to be able to freely travel the world with my family. Do you have a political stance? Who did you vote for and why? I keep politics far away from my modeling career. Do you follow or play any sports? Who and what and why? I love football! I am in a New York Giants fan and my home team is the Jacksonville jaguars. I try to attempt my fantasy league every season but I get so busy that I run out of time for it. Quick 1 answer questions‌ Coke or Pepsi? Neither Wine or beer? Wine Country or city? Both Trucks or cars? Both Lights on or off? Both New York or Miami? Miami Steak or Salad? Both Barbie’s or GI Joes? Neither

THE ROOMER IS THAT BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN BUT WE FEEL LIKE BRUNETTES ARE THE ONES YOU CAN TAKE HOME TO MOM AND MISS DANIELLE RENEE IS NO EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE, ESPECIALLY AFTER WE HAD THE CHANGE TO LEARN A BIT MORE ABOUT THIS STUNNING NEW HAMPSHIRE MODEL

What made you first become a model? I started modeling as a show of my strength, renewal, and growth. Modeling to me means so much more than just taking a pretty photo! It has become a representation of my growth, my healing, my message! To believe in and love yourself. As women we are strong, unique, and resilient. Ever since I was a small girl I loved hamming it up for photos and jumping into the spotlight. I love evoking emotion and being completely vulnerable in front of the camera. How did you feel when you did your first ever fashion show or photo shoot? After my first photo shoot… I felt liberated, on top of the world, deeply proud of myself. Modeling takes high levels of confidence and the ability to be completely raw. I remember rolling down the windows, blaring the radio and accelerating so giddy and overflowing with kick ass vibes!

companies like Sports Illustrated and Cover Girl for showcasing that beauty comes from within in an array of beautiful shapes, colors and sizes. Healthy should be the optimal word. We all need to stop judging a person for what they look like on the outside and focus on what’s inside. Start educating our young girls and boys to be confident and beautiful from the inside out. If you were not a model, what other profession would you have been doing instead? If not a model… I have always wanted to be a dancer or actress…But, I have a supreme love for horses and love to ride, so I can see myself a farm girl riding with the wind. What are guilty pleasures food wise? My guilty food pleasures are pizza and chocolate. I secretly eat a hand full or two of chocolate chips every day.

HOW TO WRITE THE PERFECT FIRST TEXT TO A WOMEN. Picture this scenario, You meet a cute woman, hit it off, swap numbers and agree to go out sometime.

B

ut after you text her she seems to disappear off the face of the earth… never to be heard from again. Sound familiar?

This is one of the most common complaints I hear from guys. They want to know why women are so hot and cold. Why they don’t even bother to text back after appearing interested. Well, let me give you the female perspective of how this scenario plays out for us. We meet a guy. He seems cool. We’re interested enough to give him our number and meet up with him sometime. And that’s how we genuinely feel… in THAT moment. But then we get back to our lives and everything we’ve got going on.

30 / fall 2017 / splashmag.us

By the time we get a text from you any number of things could’ve happened to change our feelings. That’s why you need to view us giving you our number for what it is: an avenue to get in touch with us again, not a binding contract that obligates us to go on a date with you. Which means that first text message you send is all-important. It needs to be engaging and remind us why we liked you enough to give you our number in the first place. So, let’s talk about HOW you achieve this… and just as importantly, the mistakes you want to avoid.

And by far the biggest mistake men make Is sending boring, lazy messages…. we women do it as well… but right now I’m talking to you not them. A lot of men send things like...“Hey”, “What’s up?”,“how r u?”,“wot u doin?” Aside from the appalling spelling (do you really want her to think a 13year-old girl is texting her?), these types of texts are incredibly dull. They don’t make us FEEL anything. Instead, they’re easily forgotten… and often deleted!

Remember: just because we liked you when we met, doesn’t mean we’ll feel the same way 2 days – or even 2 hours – later. The second biggest mistake I see is when guys go straight for the kill.

32 / fall 2017 / splashmag.us

Trying to arrange a date (or even worse, sex) in the first text is a big nono. It’s much better to focus on engaging her emotionally and then asking her out once the conversation is flowing. For that reason you should eliminate first texts like these from your arsenal: “Wanna meet tonight?”, “Hey you up for a drink tomorrow?”, “Netflix and chill later?” Even if you met in a bar or a club and were making out heavily, you can’t just pick up from where you left off and be overly sexual. Have some class and respect and your chances of getting her back to your place improve dramatically. Now, let’s take a look at the right way to do things… using three basic techniques that work almost like magic.

#1: Callback Humor There’s a reason most women list a sense of humor as the top quality they want in a man. Laughing releases a bunch of feelgood endorphins that help trigger feelings of attraction and comfort for a guy. So if you can tickle our funny bone with your first text… there’s a good chance we’ll let you tickle us in other places later on. And the best way to do this is by what’s known as callback humor. You’ll see standup comedians use this a lot. They’ll make a joke about something and then reference it again later in their set for even bigger laughs. The way you can use this in your texts is to reference something you shared a laugh over when you first met. Maybe you were both joking about how clumsy she is. You might text something like, “Was fun meeting you the other night, hope you’ve managed to keep yourself out of the emergency room since then”

Are you ready to go from ‘Mr. Nice Guy’ to Mr. Holy Sh* t I want him? click here

#2 Nicknames Ever since we were little girls and our fathers gave us nicknames, this has a very powerful effect on us. When a man gives us a unique nickname it makes us feel special… like he sees something in us that he doesn’t in other women. That means you want to avoid anything cliché here: baby, honey, sweetie etc. Not only are these generic, they’re also too intimate for someone you barely know yet. Instead, focus on nicknames that are fun and playful… as well as something specifically related to her. One way you can do this is pinpoint something about her than stands out to you and add a title at the start. For example, let’s say you’re in New York and meet a girl with a strong Kansas accent. You could simply add ‘Miss’ at the start and call her ‘Miss Kansas’.

splashmag.us / fall 2017 / 33

Kansas’. Maybe you decide to text: “Howdy Miss Kansas, was a pleasure meeting you and your adorable accent earlier today.” Or maybe you’re talking to a woman who happens to have a black belt in martial arts. But she’s dressed very classy, and you decide to nickname her ‘Princess Black Belt’ or ‘Princess Ninja’. It all depends on what you happen to notice about her, and what you want to go with. But using a playful nickname in your first text is an almost guaranteed way to get her smiling and remembering why she likes you. #3 Curiosity Want to know the most powerful text message you can send to make a woman insanely attracted to you? I’ll tell you tomorrow Ok, I’m kidding… but it DOES demonstrate the power that curiosity has over us. If you tempt someone with a piece of information that sounds enticing, they’ll have this nagging feeling to hear what it is you have to say. The key here is that the implied promise of what you’ll reveal is interesting or exciting in some way. For example, a text message like: “Hey, guess what I just had to eat?” doesn’t really get the curiosity juices flowing. But something like: “OMG you’ll never believe what just happened to me!” makes you wonder. Did you win the lottery? Get arrested? Start a Twitter war with the President? Only the most jaded people are likely to resist replying to a text like that. Now I’m obviously not suggesting you lie or make anything up to justify sending curiosity-provoking texts. But think about interesting stuff that you see or experience each day and you should have a wealth of ideas to choose from. 34 / fall 2017 / splashmag.us

example: “Hey, hope you enjoyed the rest of your night. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized you totally remind me of someone…” Think she won’t want to know who that person is? So there you go. Put your thinking cap on and come up with a bunch of ways you can use these 3 techniques to create first texts she can’t ignore.

What made you first become a model? I was spotted at a local gym. I was told my legs were one of a kind and should consider pursuing a career in fitness and modeling. How did you feel when you did your first ever fashion show or photo shoot? My first time in front of the camera…I was definitely shy! I often look back at those pictures and remind myself how far I’ve come. Who was your role model as a child and how did that help in being a model? Jennifer Lopez was a celebrity I always looked up to and wanted to be like. From her gorgeous hair to her legs and booty, that classy look is one I’ve always tried to incorporate into my own modeling and day-to-day look. What did your parent first think of you being a model and where they supportive? My parents have always been supportive in doing what makes me happy. I’m very lucky in that way. How do you feel about the controversy of the size 0 debate in the industry? I think that the most beautiful feature on a woman is her confidence, not her clothing size. Whether a woman is thin, thick, curvy, muscular…if she owns it, she’ll be a ten out of ten every time. If you were not a model, what other profession would you have been doing instead? Before my fitness and modeling career, I was going to school to be an interpreter for American Sign Language. What are guilty pleasures food wise? A burger and fries is my always go-to cheat meal-with extra pickles and ketchup! But my guilty pleasure is a 40 / fall 2017 / splashmag.us

He walked up, simply raised his glass to me, smiled, and nodded. What are some things or places on your bucket list? Float in the Dead Sea, swim with Dolphins, and go on a horseback riding trip in Greece. Name three things you use every day? Coffee maker, headphones, & Chapstick. Craziest thing you have ever done? Tell us a story I haven’t done anything too crazy. But I’ve owned two GSXR750s, climbed to the top of the tallest light house in the US, ridden the highest SkyCoaster in the world, and have eaten grilled snake.

I try to donate to causes that are personal to me. I will send support to friends and family who are raising money for medical funds or who need relief for other causes. Where do you want to be in 5 years? What about in 10? I hope to be living somewhere in the Carolinas. Do you have a political stance? Who did you vote for and why? I don’t claim to have a specific political stance, but my views tend to be more conservative. Do you follow or play any sports? Who and what and why? What made you first become a model? I didn’t know I had what it took to become a model until I was approached by my manager and he told me I could do it!

How do you cope under the pressures of being a model? There are no pressures in the modeling industry for me. I enjoy it and have fun!

How did you feel when you did your first ever fashion show or photo shoot? I was very excited, I saw people that were so in love with their works, and I was excited to be involved and have my own.

What beauty tips do you swear by? Always have perfect nails

Who was your role model as a child and how did that help in being a model? I didn’t have a role model for modeling when I was a child because I was just a normal child playing outside. Modeling was something that came up later in my life. What did your parent first think of you being a model and where they supportive? I was raised by only my mom and I have a very conservative and religious family that wouldn’t not consider modeling to be a profession. How do you feel about the controversy of the size 0 debate in the industry? I love to eat! So I don’t think models should have to worry about feeling like a stick. Women should have curves. If you were not a model, what other profession would you have been doing instead? Actually, I am not just a model but I am also a piano teacher, I went to school for so many things in Russia before I came to the US. Studding everything from business courses to beauty What are guilty pleasures food wise? Chocolate, but I don’t think it’s a guilty pleasure, everyone loves chocolate

If a young girl/boy wanted to be a model what would your advice for them be? Make sure you get a good education. All though some models can be very successful having a profession to fall back on is a must. When it comes to men what gets your attention? Personality is a must, he has to be educated. Dark Hair and must act like a man! Best pick up line you ever got? What was the worst? The best pick up line I ever heard was an action more than a line, a random guy just grabbed my hand and walked with me for a good block just holding my hand before he introduced himself to me. It was so comical that I gave him my name as well. The worst was a guy that jumped forward when he tried to kiss me. Literally jumped haha What are some things or places on your bucket list? I want to go to Greece, I would love to research my heritage. Name three things you use every day? Mascara, coffee and my phone Craziest thing you have ever done? Tell us a story Being married to my ex! Haha What charities do you support or want to? I want to support kids that are abandon or in orphans. In Russia we have huge buildings full of kids that are parent less. splashmag.us / fall 2017 / 67

Where do you want to be in 5 years? What about in 10? I like my life, I am comfortable being where I am, but I would like to educate myself more and get a better job here in the states. Do you have a political stance? Who did you vote for and why? I Do pay attention to politics at all. Do you follow or play any sports? Who and what and why? No I tried to understand football once, but after 45 minutes of watching all I figured out was that I liked blue pants on the players better then red haha Quick 1 answer questions‌ Coke or Pepsi? Coke Wine or beer? Wine Country or city? City Trucks or cars? Cars Boys or girls? Boys Lights on or off? On New York or Miami? New York Steak or Salad? Steak Barbie’s or GI Joes? Barbies Best part of you according to you? According to others? (What gets the most compliments?)

"My eyes are the best part of me but I seem to get a lot of compliments about my butt." What is your favorite season and why? Summer is my favorite, Beach, Sun and Ripped Shorts What could be better. What is biggest modeling goal? Because I started so late into this career I am not sure what would be my Ah-Ha moment but I think being published in a magazine is a pretty great experience. splashmag.us / fall 2017 / 69

STEP UP YOUR GAME WHEN YOU'RE SEEING A MODEL written by: fabiana pascali

Guys, as a woman who works as a matchmaker, I can tell you to never rule out the chance at dating a model or a celebrity. Don’t think of them as unattainable, they’re human like me or you. They have needs and wants, hopes and dreams. Think of them as the woman at Starbucks who’s getting a drink before work or the woman walking down the street walking her dog. She might be with her girlfriends out on the town. At the end of the night, she’s still just like any other woman you’ve dated, just better known. That means there’s always a chance at running into the woman of your dreams. She doesn’t live on a far away land or exist purely on a screen. She’s around the corner and you just need to bump into her. Say hello to that girl getting coffee, she might turn out to be a Maxim model. You might not know it at first, but you’re going to swap Instagram handles and you’re going to see her latest spread or photos of her on set. It’ll take you a minute and you’ll say, “No? Is that her? No!?” Then you realize that’s why she has 30,000 followers. At that point you’ll start to freak out and start to doubt yourself. Don’t! Be yourself, be confident. She digs you enough to go past that initial hello, go the distance! All of a sudden you’re in a relationship with a gorgeous, well known woman. Let’s back that thought up a moment. Before you even meet your leading lady,

1) don't: do not start out by telling her how hot she is. She hears this all day, everyday from men trying to pick her up. It's not special and won't impress her. Do: Instead find a common interest to talk about. Maybe a hobby, restaurant, movie, etc. be witty, funny and make smart, interesting conversation. 2) don't: social media: don't use social media to pick up a girl. It's so redundant and every guy tries to do that. Once again, we get bombarded with messages on social media. We ignore most especially that start out with: "hey, you're hot. What's up. What are you up to." We don't know you and aren't going to respond to personal questions from some stranger. Additionally, if all you do is hang out on social media, it makes us think you have no job and have nothing better to do but stalk people. Do yourself a favor and don't post more selfies than a girl. It's just weird when a guy posts selfies in general but especially if it's on a daily basis. Once again it looks like you have nothing else going on but looking in the mirror taking selfies all day. Unless you're a model and it's your business to post face and body parts, just don't do it. Do: do post about your business to promote your work and throw in pictures of your social life attending certain events such charities, sports events, etc. it'll show you have interests beyond your own mug shots or food pix. Hint: Having others take pictures of you instead of selfies so it looks like you actually have friends. 3) don't: if you got lucky and she accepted your date, whatever you do, don't talk about your ex and what a b*tch she was. It makes you look bitter and that you're not over her. Do: if the ex convo does come up, say that you both learned from your experience and you now know what you do and don't want. Be the bigger person and be positive.

4) do: have confidence but don't be a self absorbed jerk. When dating a beautiful woman, no matter if she's a celeb or not, it's inevitable she'll get lots of attention from the opposite sex. Don't: throw jealous tantrums, check her phone, text messages, emails or stalk social media. It'll be the death of you. She will loose respect and start thinking that maybe there is better out there since you act like there is. Your behavior will determine your future dates and potentially taking it to the next level. Nobody wants an overly jealous, insecure, whiny brat. If you can't change it don't whine about it. Move on. 5) don't: don't involve your friends and family in every detail of your dating life. Friends could be jealous of you dating a hot model and might throw in negative comments. Do: keep your personal life private. 6) don't: be lazy, still living at your mom's house, driving daddy's car and having no job. Do: have drive, educate yourself, work hard, keep your mind and body healthy, have something to offer as far as education, stability and personality is concerned. 7) dont: be a Debbie downer and complain about her busy schedule. She's an independent, accomplished woman and wants someone equal in her life. Do: Be positive and encouraging. 8) do: find out how you can bring value to her life. Beautiful women have tons of options. Make sure you can improve her life and she will want to have you in her life. Some things of value to bring to her life are: Happiness, partnership, security, friendship. Don't: think about what she can do for you. Think about what you can do for her. the Cardinals.
