HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The theater has gone through several incarnations as well as several locations. It is the longest running community theater in El Paso with 52 years to date. The original financing for the procurement of the property and building at 2501 Montana was accomplished through the generosity of Mr. William Kastrin who along with his two daughters, Veronica Kastrin and Linda Abraham and Mr. Ken Letner of San Francisco, first conceived the idea of the Festival Theatre, the El Paso Playhouse’s original name at this location. In the 48 years of the Playhouse’s existence, it has seen many changes - from paint colors, to genre of plays performed on stage, to the numerous actors and patrons who have passed through its doors. Through it all, we have remained strong and everlasting.

“I regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” Oscar Wilde

Who’s Who in the Cast Minden dickson (Princess Diana) Minden has been enjoying being back on stage after a long break. Recently, she appeared in Steel Magnolias (Ouiser) and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Martha), but she hasn’t been in a musical in 20 years! She would like to thank her directors, Veronica and Emperatris, for their patience and support, and the great cast for all of their hard work and dedication. She would also like to thank her sons for their encouragement, and for putting up with a mom who’s always at rehearsal! Finally, thank you to Princess Diana, who was an inspiration to so many. Victer mendoza (Princess Charles) Moises Arreola (Narrator) a regular at The Playhouse, returns once again as various different characters ranging from Narrator to waiter. Having very little vocal training, he is using “Princess Diana” as a method to expand his skills and experience as well as show that The El Paso Playhouse is capable of amazing feats of art. His near future plans include local film productions, voice acting, and perhaps even tech journalism, but he knows the future is always changing and is welcome to any opportunity to better himself. Emperatris Carter (Queen) is a Texas-based Professional Soprano, currently working at the El Paso Music Learning Center, as a Voice Coach, and Music Instructor, as well as the Music Director for the El Paso Playhouse. Making her Operatic debut in the role of Barbarina in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro at the age of 17, the classically-trained Soprano graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso in Voice (Operatic) Performance in 2016. Appearing in over 20 productions - from Madame Butterfly and La Bohème to Into the Woods and Oklahoma!- since beginning her studies, she is one of the most well-rounded musicians in the Southwest area. She has worked with the El Paso Opera, Opera Bhutan, Opera UTEP, Sinfonía de la Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez. She was also part of a concert series with the Santa Fe Opera Young Artists. She is recipient of the 1st Place in her competitive division for the NATS Rio Grande association of singing from 2010-2014 and was also awarded the overall Most Promising Singer in 2013 and 2014. She hopes to continue her studies at Indiana State University in Operatic Studies and Linguistics in 2017. Stephen Jones (Prince Philip/Victor) Stephen is the theatre director at Riverside High School. His last appearance at the Playhouse was as Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Originally from Corpus Christi he is happy to call El Paso home. He would like to dedicate this performance to his wife Jessica and kids Stephen, Jasmine and Emmy.

Who’s Who in the Cast Frieda Voeks (Queen Mum) Frieda has been working in community theater for 30+ years both onstage and off and has been directing for the past 10 years. Among her directed shows are “Annie”, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”, “Will Rogers Follies”, “A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody”, and “Murder on the Nile.” She is also active in Six Guns & Shady Ladies, a reenactment group and the The Woman’s Club of El Paso. She is grateful to her hubby, Ted, who has always supported her and her animal family who will be happy to have mama back home nights. Jasmine Fernandez (Camilla Parker-Bowles) is delighted to be making her debut with the El Paso Playhouse. She attends the University of Texas El Paso where she is pursuing a degree in Music Education. She is currently singing with the UTEP Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers. She has been involved in several productions which include La Boheme with the El Paso Opera, The Mikado with the Gilbert and Sullivan Company of El Paso, Viva! El Paso, and Opera’s UTEP’s productions of Sweeney Todd, The Magic Flute and Speed Dating Tonight! and more. Eurydice Saucedo (Fergie) is proud to be returning to singing on stage; especially for this particular event at The Playhouse. Her El Paso theater credits include (Joanne) in “Rent”, (Martirio) in the bilingual House of Bernarda Alba, (Roz) in 9 to 5, (Elaine Page) in Arsenic and Old Lace, and the Vagina Monologues to mention just a few. Other credits include the UTEP Dinner Theater, EPCC Theater Repertoire, Viva! El Paso, Shakespeare on the Rocks, Gilbert and Sullivan, Los Actores, S.O.R, and Improv on the Border. She looks forward to directing the upcoming “The Women” here at The Playhouse after just finishing directing “Our Lady of the Tortilla.” “A wish come true and joy to have the privilege to do what makes me happiest. Thank you, for all your love and support. I’m blessed, Starfish.” Abigayle Lambourn (Anne) is a 14 year native of El Paso. Not new to The Playhouse from the backstage crew this is her first show at The Playhouse on stage and is very excited to be invited to this experience of “Princess Diana, the Musical”. Even with a little role, she hopes you enjoy every part of the show! Terry Lambourn (Beauty Editor) an El Paso native has participated in past productions of The Playhouse as backstage manager and crew (“It’s A Wonderful Life” 2015, “Steel Magnolias” and “Our Lady of the Tortilla”). This is her first show at The Playhouse, and she is absolutely thrilled to be sharing this experience with her daughter.

Nathaniel Matkin (Dudley) has done roles such as (Nanki-Poo) from the Mikado, and the (Defendant) from Trial by Jury. This is his first show at The Playhouse, and he would like to thank the El Paso Playhouse cast & crew for showing him much hospitality and making him feel right at home. Aragon Barreras (Prince William) is a 7th grader at MacArthur Middle School, this is his debut on the El Paso Playhouse stage. Later this year he will be showing in Into the Woods with EPCC.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

When the opportunity presented itself to bring this fairly new and unheard of musical to life we didn’t hesitate to tackle the task. Musicals here at the Playhouse have been scarce and far-between, but we wanted to at least try to bring the genre back to the Playhouse.... and we did! We did because every person you see and those you never see, put in so much of their time, money, and dedication to making what we feel is a beautiful show. We wanted to start the new year with something different, and this was it. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would direct a musical, and it’s been one of the best experiences I’ve had because I’ve had the opportunity to work with such wonderful people. This would have been impossible to do had I not had the assistance and unwaiving dedication of friends and cast members. It will be 20 years since this world lost a beautiful soul, Princess Diana and we hope you enjoy our tribute to her and her life’s legacy as we bring it to life. We hope you leave humming the tunes and come back again. Thank you and have a wonderful and blessed 2017! Director - Veronica Frescas

We will always have hope in our hearts.
