Technical Director CHRISTINE AMBRIZ HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The theater has gone through several incarnations as well as several locations. It is the longest running community theater in El Paso with 52 years to date. The original financing for the procurement of the property and building at 2501 Montana was accomplished through the generosity of Mr. William Kastrin who along with his two daughters, Veronica Kastrin and Linda Abraham and Mr. Ken Letner of San Francisco, first conceived the idea of the Festival Theatre, the El Paso Playhouse’s original name at this location. In the 48 years of the Playhouse’s existence, it has seen many changes - from paint colors, to genre of plays performed on stage, to the numerous actors and patrons who have passed through its doors. Through it all, we have remained strong and everlasting.

“I regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being.” Oscar Wilde

Thank you El Paso for 55 Years!

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE As someone with a deep love and admiration for all things dark and creepy, the idea of directing a murder mystery thrilled me. However, the realization that this was a murder mystery heavy on comedy, presented a challenge since I had never directed a comedy before this one. To say I was nervous would be an understatement. But thanks to a fantastic and talented cast, and a supportive crew, I have had a blast working on this show. I have never laughed so much directing a show before and I hope you will too. Enjoy this not so dark, not so creepy yet hilarious show!

Who’s Who in the Cast gabriela muñoz (Helsa) is excited to move up and experience acting outside of school theater. This will be her second show her at the El Paso play house. Previously she has acted in Frankenstein, All My Sons, Cat in the Hat , Lend Me A Tenor, and The Great Pandemonium. She looks forward to moving up the ladder and pursuing a bigger career in acting.

Monserrat Peña (Helsa) is a 15 year old sophomore at Americas High School. She is very involved at her school and in her community which includes being an officer for Libertas. This is Monserrat’s second time performing at the Playhouse. She feels blessed to have been given an opportunity to return & work with this wonderful cast & crew.

minden dickson (Elsa) grew up in El Paso, and was involved with community theater for many years, performing with Viva! El Paso, SRO, and Music Theater El Paso. She returned to El Paso after receiving her bachelor degree in Theater from UCLA. After a long break from performing, Minden returned to the El Paso Playhouse in 2015 as Ouiser in Steel Magnolias. It was so much fun, she keeps coming back for more! Since then she’s appeared in many Playhouse shows including On Golden Pond (Chelsea), A Christmas Story (Mother), The Women (Mary), and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Martha). She’s also proud to serve on the Playhouse board. Minden would like to thank her sons for their patience with a mom who’s always at rehearsal, and her mom for seeing EVERY show she’s been in! Donovan Spann (Michael) is a 15-year-old aspiring actor who has previously been in two plays for Montwood High School. He started his acting career with the lead role of Peter Pan in Peter and The Starcatchers and had a supporting role as Frank Lubey in the Arthur Miller classic, All My Sons. He is thrilled and honored to now be acting for the El Paso Playhouse.

Who’s Who in the Cast danny holguin (Patrick) is a UTEP student studying Engineering Leadership. He has been doing theater for about four years and has enjoyed every second of it. Danny is happy to be surrounded by a pretty amazing cast and is looking forward to maybe doing this again in the future here at the El Paso Playhouse.

travis bevis (Ken) is originally from Southern California and has been on stage several times in the last few years, but is still relatively new to the world of acting. Ever since leaving the Army in 2012, he has developed a real passion for entertaining and performing. Travis is excited about every character he gets to bring to life because he sees each one as an opportunity to grow as an actor. He hopes that he and his cast mates are able to deliver a show with the stellar quality our community has come to expect, and that audience members will laugh and enjoy this wonderful farce comedy. Cynthia alvarez (Nikki) is performing at the El Paso Playhouse for the very first time. She is an alumni from UTEP, where she obtained her BFA in theatre performance, and will be attending UCLA this coming Fall for her MFA in acting. Working on this show has been a bittersweet experience, as this will be the last show she will do on an El Paso stage before she leaves for Los Angeles.

Adam Gonzalez (Eddie) is a second year advertising major at the University of Texas at Austin visiting home for the summer. He started his theatrical career his sophomore year at Riverside High School, so he is beyond thrilled to be your hilarious and side-tickling comic, Eddie McCuen. Lastly he would like to thank his family and friends as well as his former theater teachers Stephen “Coach” Solis and Jasmine “MTU” Estrada for vigorously supporting him and his endeavours.

Who’s Who in the Cast Leslie Horvath (Margorie) a native El Pasoan, Leslie grew up on the stage with parents who were very active in theater. She began performing at the El Paso Playhouse in 2011. The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 will be her 12th production at the El Paso Playhouse. Most recently she played (Ethel) in On Golden Pond, (Annie) in Calendar Girls, (Edith and Lucy) in The Women, (Dolores) in Our Lady of the Tortilla, and (MyLnn) in Steel Magnolias. Other credits include productions with Shakespeare on the Rocks. Leslie would like to give a big thanks to her family, especially her husband for all their support.

Noe Lopez (Roger) has always been a proud supporter of the fine arts such as The El Paso Playhouse. He is a single father of two children he loves very much and an avid sports fan. He currently works as licensed psychotherapist and director of New Leaf Wellness Center providing mental health services. This is his first attempt at being on stage instead of in the audience. He is excited for the challenge and hopes, nay, prays he doesn’t disappoint. Maybe this is a one time performance or the start of many, depends on whether or not he remembers his lines HA!

Liliana Esparza (Bernice) is elated to be back on the stage after a 25 year hiatus. She has previously appeared in The Mousetrap, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Julius Caesar, and her last role, 25 years ago, as Elsa Von Grossenknueten in The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940. This is her first time performing on The El Paso Playhouse stage, and she is grateful to be a part of this truly talented cast and crew. Liliana wishes to thank her family and friends for their support, and offers a special thank you to her son, Ivan, for his patience and encouragement. She also wishes to thank you for supporting the local arts and hopes you enjoy the show.
