The Chesapeake is a versatile breed and the activities offered reflect this diversity. On Tuesday Redding Farm in Gettysburg, Pa kicked off the week- long events with a tracking test. 7 tracks (4 TD & 3 TDX) were laid. Two new tracking titles were earned by Pond Hollow Bay of Calais VCD1 BN AX AXJ NF (TDX) Jan Estes; GCh Eastern Waters Nuka Bay Kachemak BN RE NAJ (TD) Lynda Barber-Wiltse. On Wednesday, the activity switched to Lewisberry, Pa & the Bella Vista Training Center for an all-breed Agility Trial offered by the ACC. With an early opening for Chesapeake entries, 28 participated with entries in all levels. Thursday the action switched to the Host Hotel in Lancaster. baugh & Mrs. M.E. “Betsy” Baird put the dogs through their routines. Highlight of the Obedience is the costumed Team Competition. Once again it lived up to its reputation for entertainment. The Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs team had the best costumes but first prize went to the Team of Estes/ Silver/Grant & Johnson. High in Trial was Pond Hollow Penikese CD 196.5 in Open B owned and handled by Bill Lane. There was also testing offered for CDC and Therapy Dog titles by Joanne Silver, which was well attended. Thursday evening two seminars were offered by the club for free. A breeders’ seminar “How Well Do You Know the

Standard” with focus on understanding the disqualifications by the ACC Judges & Breeder Education Committee. A discussion on ethics and breeding for quality was headed by Jane Pappler (Redlion) & Meghan Conner Timmerman (Fitzhugh). The ACC Health Committee sponsored a seminar by Dr. Chris Zink- “The Chesapeake Bay Retriever-Conformation and Beyond”. Topics included the negative effect of early spay and neutering; the usefulness of front dewclaws in performance; and recent research on how to improve performance while keeping your dog healthy.
