Frequently referred to as "Canada's birthday", particularly in the popular press, the occasion marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces (the Province of Canada being divided, in the process, into Ontario and Quebec) on July 1, 1867. Canada became a kingdom in its own right on that date, but the British Parliament kept limited rights of political control over the new country that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982 when the Constitution Act patriated the Canadian constitution Under the federal Holidays Act, Canada Day is observed on July 1 unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case July 2 is the statutory holiday, although celebratory events generally take place on July 1 even though it is not the legal holiday. If it falls on a Saturday, any businesses normally closed that day will generally dedicate the following Monday as a day off.

Diamond Jubilee The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee marks 60 years since her accession in 1952. Royal Jubilees celebrate significant periods in monarchs’ reigns and national life. In 2012, The Queen will become only the second UK monarch to mark 60 years on the throne. Celebrations were previously held for Her Majesty’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 and Golden Jubilee in 2002.

While Accession Day is on 6th February, celebrations will occur throughout 2012, with a special extended bank holiday central weekend in the United Kingdom on 2nd5th June.

On Saturday 2nd June, The Queen will attend the Epsom Derby. On Sunday 3rd June the Big Jubilee Lunch and the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant will take place. On Monday 4th June a concert will be held at Buckingham Palace and a network of beacons will be lit throughout the UK and the Commonwealth. On Tuesday 5th June a Service of Thanksgiving will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, which will be followed by a formal carriage Procession.

The Olympics By Slider69 The ancient Olympics were rather different from the modern Games. There were fewer events, and only free men who spoke Greek could compete (although a woman Bilistiche is also mentioned as a winner). As long as they met the entrance criteria, athletes from any country or city-state were allowed to participate. The Games were always held at Olympia rather than alternating to different locations as is the tradition with the modern Olympic Games. There is one major commonality between the ancient and modern Games, the victorious athletes are honored, feted, and praised. Their deeds were heralded and chronicled so that future generations could appreciate their accomplishments.

Todays modern Olympics however are still held every 4 years also known as Olympiad, they alternate between Summer Olympics and Winter Olympics. Respectively every two years. Todays games also offer the Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals. The only awards received by the athletes in the early games were, wreaths of Laurel Leaves.

As times have changed since the beginning of the games, so have the athletes, the games themselves, and most noteable, the ceremonies. Each countries Anthem is played and their flag hoisted to honor the athlete and their home country whom they compete for. This year's Summer Olympics will be held in London, England. From July 27th to August 12th.

We here at Forge Magazine and WKIP/WDOS radio, would like to wish the best of luck and safety to ALL athletes and their respective homelands.

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day later, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."

Adams's prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.

There is no question that July 4, 1776 is the date that the Congress approved the final official document, having voted to declare independence two days earlier. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all later wrote that they had also signed it on that day. However, most historians have concluded that the Declaration was signed nearly a month after its adoption, on August 2, 1776, and not on July 4 as is commonly believed.

In a remarkable coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but another Founding Father who became a President, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831, thus becoming the third president in a row who died on this memorable day. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, is the only President to have been born on Independence Day.

The Statue of Liberty was given to America from the French. This was a symbol that as long as she stood, the friendship between France and America held true. France lent help to America during the war for it’s freedom from England. France has a similar statue on their lands as well.

GEO Many creators on IMVU have different reasons of why they began creating. Most just enjoyed the idea of creating their own products, some did it to earn credits for their shopping addictions, and others because they couldn't find anything that they liked. Geo began creating for enjoyment. Geo is making a huge comeback to IMVU. She now offers meshes to derive off of that are affordable to you and are quite stylish. Geo's interactive book is what Forge will be using so we can offer the magazine to all of it's readers. Her innovation helps to inspire many.

Domestic Violence By Falariia Domestic Violence; It's EVERYBODY'S Business. Please join us in supporting Domestic Violence Awareness! The following information is not something most do not wish to hear or talk about, however, it's there, it's real and happening every moment. I won't go into the statics of things. Im sure most are aware that this happens all the time. It's time to take a stand and be aware of it. If you know of anyone that is or has been abused, have them read this. Pass it on, it could save a life or lives! Domestic violence should not happen to anybody. Ever. Period. But it does - and when it does, there is help. Maybe you have lived with abuse, maybe it happened just once; maybe you work or live next to someone who is being abused right now. Whoever you are, this book can show you how and where to get help. What is Abuse? - A Warning List Many people who are being abused do not see themselves as victims. Also, abusers do not see themselves as being abusive. People often think of domestic violence as physical violence, such as hitting. However, domestic violence takes other forms, such as psychological, emotional, or sexual abuse. Domestic violence is about one person in a relationship using a pattern of behaviors to control the other person. It can happen to people who are married or not married; heterosexual, gay, or lesbian; living together, separated, or dating. If your partner repeatedly uses one or more of the following to control you; ¦pushing, hitting, slapping, choking, kicking, or biting ¦threatening you, your children, other family members or pets ¦threatening suicide to get you to do something ¦using or threatening to use a weapon against you ¦keeping or taking your paycheck ¦puts you down or makes you feel bad ¦forcing you to have sex or to do sexual acts you do not want or like ¦keeping you from seeing your friends, family or from going to work YOU HAVE BEEN ABUSED!! Remember threatened or actual physical violence may be illegal. Consider calling the police for help *********************************************** Domestic violence and emotional abuse are behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control the other. Partners may be married or not married; heterosexual, gay, or lesbian; living together, separated or dating. Examples of abuse include: ¦name-calling or putdowns ¦keeping a partner from contacting their family or friends ¦withholding money ¦stopping a partner from getting or keeping a job ¦actual or threatened physical harm ¦sexual assault ¦stalking ¦intimidation

Violence can be criminal and includes physical assault (hitting, pushing, shoving, etc.), sexual abuse (unwanted or forced sexual activity), and stalking. Although emotional, psychological and financial abuse are not criminal behaviors, they are forms of abuse and can lead to criminal violence. The violence takes many forms and can happen all the time or once in a while. An important step to help yourself or someone you know in preventing or stopping violence is recognizing the warning signs listed on the "Violence Wheel." ANYONE CAN BE A VICTIM! Victims can be of any age, sex, race, culture, religion, education, employment or marital status. Although both men and women can be abused, most victims are women. Children in homes where there is domestic violence are more likely to be abused and/or neglected. Most children in these homes know about the violence. Even if a child is not physically harmed, they may have emotional and behavior problems. If you are being abused, REMEMBER 1.You are not alone 2.It is not your fault 3.Help is available Cycle of Violence Incident ¦Any type of abuse occurs (physical/sexual/emotional) Tension Building ¦Abuser starts to get angry ¦Abuse may begin ¦There is a breakdown of communication ¦Victim feels the need to keep the abuser calm ¦Tension becomes too much ¦Victim feels like they are 'walking on egg shells' Making-Up ¦Abuser may apologize for abuse ¦Abuser may promise it will never happen again ¦Abuser may blame the victim for causing the abuse ¦Abuser may deny abuse took place or say it was not as bad as the victim claims Calm ¦Abuser acts like the abuse never happened ¦Physical abuse may not be taking place ¦Promises made during 'making-up' may be met ¦Victim may hope that the abuse is over ¦Abuser may give gifts to victim The cycle can happen hundreds of times in an abusive relationship. Each stage lasts a different amount of time in a relationship. The total cycle can take anywhere from a few hours to a year or more to complete. It is important to remember that not all domestic violence relationships fit the cycle. Often, as time goes on, the 'making-up' and 'calm' stages disappear.

Today we will talk about something different...Monochrome....can it work? Most fashion shows and magazines deal with flashy colors and matching. Color co-ordination by cool colors such as blue, green and purple. Color co-ordinate by warm colors such as yellow, red and orange. Keep similar palette colors together...blue and red together can be... highlighted by purple. Neutral colors can accentuate all other colors such as white, black, grey and brown.

MONOCHROME! But what about one color???? The following pictures will show.... Using one color is feasable....how?? STYLE!!!! By adding patterns, showing skin effectively, adding frills and other attachments such as sarongs, patterned earings....anything is possible!

Many of the top designers study hard others works and they let thier imagination soar. Patterns that compliment the bodies curves and accent what you want them to see takes thought and talent. Drawing attention to the legs, bust, or rear more without making them the only focus is what you should be thinking.

The point of all my babble....Balance! Look at the over-all effect of your outfit and ask yourself.... Do I Look Good? Try everything out until your happy with it then get a second opinion.

Finally keep a couple of outfits with different colors ready. In a room with colors the same as what you are wearing you will fade out, then you can switch to a complimentary color for the room. If your prepared, then you will ALWAYS BE IN FASHION!

PS: Don't listen to your sister!!!!

Some of the pictures have a second color to show off a symbol or pattern, if you want to keep it monochrome, you can use a different shade to highlight a pattern....such as using 2-3 shades of red. I added

the extra pics to show off fun summer wear and ideas :)
