Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so you watch over your Church. Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always with a spirit of profound respect. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Sixth Sunday of Easter May 13, 2012 It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit. — John 15:16 THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT We have a unique episode in the Acts of the Apostles today. A whole roomful of people are baptized with the Holy Spirit before they are baptized with water! The verb used—“the Holy Spirit ‘fell’ on them” (Acts 10:44)—is characteristic of the way the Spirit works throughout the book of Acts: powerful and surprising. Though this “baptism” is not the normative way the New Testament describes baptism, it is still a good reminder today that the Holy Spirit is not controlled by whether or not we pour water, but rather that our sacramental signs reveal the presence of the Spirit at work among us. And we have a double reinforcement of how this work is accomplished from a Letter and a Gospel bearing John’s name. It is love, selfsacrificing and self-giving love, that manifests the Spirit of Jesus in our midst. It is love that is the greatest of commandments. The Spirit is manifested equally through those who live in that love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Reflection question: How can I participate more fully at Mass? Carnival 2012 – Watching the Skies The weather for this year’s Carnival was expected to be rainy. The weather held out Thursday and Friday and everybody came to take advantage. Most of the unlimited ride bracelets were in use on Thursday night. Saturday was expected to be a total washout and we did get rain mid-afternoon that sent many people home. But clearing after 6:00 PM brought many back for the evening. Sunday was breezy and showers threatened but we stayed pretty dry. Combining the weakness of the economy and the threatening weather, results from this year’s carnival will be down a bit from recent years. However it was still a great financial success and we will publish results when all the bills are paid. The key to our continued success is the support you give. The hundreds of volunteers who make the carnival work and the thousands who come to join us in the celebration make the carnival a great community building event. We thank you all for participating. Every year we schedule the Carnival so that it does not interfere with the celebration of Easter. Carnival 2013 will run from April 18-21st. Mark your calendars! God Bless you all, Paul and Norma Hunter Carnival Chairmen - (a.k.a. Mr. & Mrs. Clown)
